Destiny community raises more than a million dollars for Nepal victims

Destiny gamers have managed to raise more than a million dollars for victims of the Nepal earthquakes, money that’s being donated to Direct Relief.

Bungie and Activision started raising money to help the victims in Nepal by selling a $30 shirt, with half of that price going to charity. The two companies also chipped in $50.000 each, with Bungie also matching some of the donations coming from the shirt sales. In total the Destiny community has raised north of a million dollars. The money is being used by Direct Relief to help the victims in Nepal with their long road to recovery.

Thomas Tighe, CEO of Direct Relief expressed his gratitude to the gaming community:

This was an astounding act of generosity on the part of Bungie and the larger Bungie community, and we at Direct Relief are deeply grateful - beyond what can be expressed in words

Such social activism isn’t new among companies and it’s always encouraging to see. The Destiny community is now joining the likes of Google and Microsoft, both of whom have donated millions of dollars in cash as well as free services to help reunite families.
