Games with Gold for January 2019 include Celeste, Far Cry 2, and more

Microsoft has gone ahead and revealed what Xbox Live Gold members will be receiving for free in January to kick off the new year as part of the Games with Gold program.

Sticking to the usual formula, the free games of January 2019 include two Xbox One and two Xbox 360 titles, where the latter duo will also be available for Xbox One owners to claim thanks to the company's backward compatibility program.

Here are the games:

Celeste (Xbox One: January 1 - 31)

Help Madeline survive her inner demons on her journey to the top of Celeste Mountain, in this super-tight, hand-crafted platformer from the creators of multiplayer classic TowerFall.

WRC 6 FIA World Rally Championship (Xbox One: January 16 - February 15)

On a race track, it's the car that makes all the difference. In a rally, it's the driver. WRC 6 puts you to the test: fog, mud, punctures, night racing, engine breakdowns... you have to deal with it all.

Lara Croft: Guardian of Light (Xbox 360, Xbox One: January 1 - 15)

Experience the first ever co-op action-adventure game featuring Lara Croft. Team up with a friend or go at it alone as you traverse and solve deadly traps, fight hordes of undead enemies, and collect over 60 artifacts and relics.

Far Cry 2 (Xbox 360, Xbox One: January 16 - 31)

You are a gun for hire, trapped in a war-torn African state, stricken with malaria and forced to make deals with corrupt warlords. Your mission is to hunt down and kill The Jackal. This evil arms dealer has been perpetuating this conflict for years, wreaking havoc on the land an all of its innocent people.

Since January is still some time away, be sure to grab this month's Games with Gold before their promotions come to an end. Never Alone, Q.U.B.E. 2, as well as Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction from November are still available to claim for free.

Xbox Live Gold subscriptions are currently discounted on the Microsoft Store as well, where they cost $1 for one month and $59.99 for 12 months.
