Lenovo ThinkPad P52 unboxing and first impressions

Lenovo's ThinkPad P52 is the mid-range of the company's mobile workstation lineup, with a Core i7-8850H vPro processor and a 6GB Nvidia Quadro P3200 with Max-Q GPU, but it packs a serious punch.

Yesterday, I unboxed the Lenovo ThinkPad P72, the firm's top-of-the-line mobile workstation. While that machine is powerful, it's still a lot of PC. If it's too big or too heavy for you, you might want to take a look at the ThinkPad P52. Not quite as powerful, it's certainly a lot more portable with its 15.6-inch screen and weighing in at 5.4 pounds.

The P72 model that Lenovo sent me includes an Intel Core i7-8850H CPU, a hexa-core CPU with 12 threads and a 45W TDP. If you want a Xeon chip though, you can choose that configuration as well. The dedicated graphics is an Nvidia Quadro P3200 with Max-Q, a 6GB GPU built on the Pascal architecture.

Like any workstation, this PC has a wide array of ports, including three USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports, two Thunderbolt 3 ports, HDMI 2.0, wired Ethernet, Mini DisplayPort 1.4, an SD card reader, and a 3.5mm combo audio jack. On top of that, it also has a 15.6-inch 4K display.
