LG unveils two new ultra-wide monitors to be shown off at CES

LG has unveiled a couple of new monitors which it will show off at the Consumer Electronics Show next month, one aimed at business and one meant for gaming.

For productivity, the new LG UltraWide Monitor (49WL95) is meant to replace setups with multiple displays, offering very wide 32:9 aspect ratio on a 49-inch display. The concept isn't really new, as Asus and Dell have launched similar monitors in the past. In fact, LG's take isn't radically different from Dell's - the 49-inch display comes at a resolution of 5120 by 1440 pixels and 99% coverage of the sRGB color space. The most notable advantage here is support for HDR10, which should offer an improved color range. LG also says the monitor can display images and video in 4K resolution, which will be scaled down to the screen's max resolution.

The monitor also offers features like picture-by-picture mode so you can have two external sources side-by-side on the screen, and even Dual Controller Software, so you can use the same mouse and keyboard to control two devices. A USB Type-C port is also included for data transfer and charging devices with batteries up to 85W.

Gamers, on the other hand, get the new UltraGear Gaming Monitor (38GL950G) with a 38-inch display in a more reasonable 21:9 aspect ratio. It comes in at a 3840x1440 resolution and covers 98% of the DCI-P3 color gamut. The monitor supports Nvidia's G-Sync technology and has a 144Hz refresh rate, plus a 2ms response time.

Both of these monitors should be fully unveiled at CES 2019, which is set to begin on January 8.
