Microsoft explains where avatars should show up on Xbox One dashboard

Last month, the new Xbox avatars went live for Xbox Insiders on the Alpha ring after a couple of delays. However, Microsoft has acknowledged that some users remain unsure about where the new avatars should appear. Now, the Xbox program team released new details to help answer those questions.

The new avatars will show up in the profile of users who chose to represent themselves as an avatar. Users must keep in mind to choose to represent themselves as an avatar, not a gamerpic, if they want to display their avatar. It may take up to 10 seconds before the new avatar shows up in the profile page the first time after the update is downloaded and installed on Xbox One.

Other key locations where the new Xbox avatars will be found include the activity feed, leaderboards, profile compare, GameHub, and club header. In some cases, avatars may also appear at the top of the home screen so that users may summon a friend with an active online status. It is worth noting, though, that some users may not be able to create their own avatar until the feature achieves a wider rollout.

Additionally, there's an option to pin friends to the home screen in order to see their avatar, if available. Avatars may also show up in ambient notifications.
