More info on Halo Infinite's upcoming Extraction mode has been revealed

A few days ago, developer 343 Industries dropped a trailer and teased us with some info on the upcoming Season 5: Reckoning free update for its sci-fi shooter Halo Infinite. Today, the developer revealed more info on one aspect of Season 5: the new gameplay mode Extraction.

As we mentioned before, the Extraction mode previously showed up years ago in Halo 4. In a new blog post on the Halo Waypoint site, it describes the Halo: Infinite version. The mode begins with every player getting an Extraction Device. When a match begins, a neutral Extraction Site shows up somewhere on the map.

The two teams try to be the first to get to that location. The first player to plant their Extraction Device at that location now owns that section for their team. They then have to hold that location until the device finishes that extraction.

Of course, the opposing team will try to take over that site and the device. If they are successful in doing so, they can convert the Extraction Device over to their team. The timer to complete that action is then reset and will continue until one team or the other completes the extraction.

The team that does so wins a point in the match and then another random Extraction site shows up on the map to continue the match.

In addition to the standard Extraction mode, Halo Infinite will have a couple of variants:

  • ARENA: EXTRACTION The core Extraction experience with one neutral Extraction Site appearing at a time until one team scores enough points to win.
  • RANKED: EXTRACTION A variation in Ranked Arena at launch where players spawn with one Frag Grenade instead of two, motion-tracker is disabled, and friendly fire is enabled.

Season 5 begins on October 17 and will also include two new multiplayer maps, new AI enemies for Forge map makers, new customization options, and more.
