POCO X2 with 120Hz LCD display, Snapdragon 730G, and $225 price tag goes official

Xiaomi's sub-brand POCO today announced its second handset, the POCO X2. The announcement comes almost 1.5 years after the original POCO F1 was announced which shocked the entire smartphone market with its value for money and performance.

The POCO X2 is not a direct successor to the Poco F1. Instead, it is a mid-range gaming phone that packs some impressive features for its price. The phone features a 3D curved glass body with Gorilla Glass 5 panels at the front and back. The power button located at the right edge sits flush with the body and also features an integrated fingerprint scanner. While not water-resistant, the device does have P2i splash-proof coating.

The POCO X2 comes with a 20:9 6.67-inch FHD+ HDR10 LCD display which boasts of a 120Hz 'RealityFlow' refresh rate. The display has a punch-hole cutout at the right which houses dual cameras. Other specs of the POCO X2 are equally impressive and are as follows:

  • 6.67-inch FHD+ HDR10 120Hz 'RealityFlow' display
  • 8nm Snapdragon 730G @ 2.2GHz
  • Adreno 618 GPU
  • 6/8GB LPDDR4X RAM
  • 64GB/128GB/256GB UFS 2.1 storage
  • Quad-camera system - 64MP + 8MP + 2MP + 2MP
  • Dual-cameras at front - 20MP + 2MP
  • microSD card slot
  • 3.5mm headphone jack, Side-mounted fingerpint scanner
  • Hybrid Dual-SIM, 4G, Wi-Fi ac, USB-C, Bluetooth 5.0, IR remote
  • 4500mAh battery, 27W fast charging

Since the phone is oriented towards gaming, it comes with liquid cooling to ensure it does not heat up excessively even when under heavy load.

The quad-camera system at the rear includes a 64MP Sony IMX686 shooter, a 120-degree 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and one macro and depth sensor of 2MP resolution each. The front houses a 20MP selfie camera and a 2MP depth camera. The phone is capable of recording 4K videos as well as slow-mo videos at 960fps.

The POCO X2 runs on Android 10-based MIUI 11 'Designed for Poco' which has less bloatware and no ads.

The POCO X2 will go on sale in India from February 11 on Flipkart in three colors: Matrix Purple, Phoenix Red, and Atlantis Blue. The base variant of the phone with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage is priced at Rs 15,999 ($225), while the high-end 8GB RAM variant with 256GB storage carries a price tag of Rs 19,999 ($285). It is unclear if the POCO X2 will make an international debut or it will be only sold in India.
