Today, Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 768G, its latest high-end 5G gaming chipset. As the subtle change in naming indicates, it's fundamentally the same as the Snapdragon 765G but with some key improvements.
The CPU still uses Kryo 475 coresm and the GPU is still an Adreno 620, but they've both been improved. The CPU is now clocked at 2.8GHz instead of 2.4GHz, and the Adreno 620 GPU is 15% faster. Moreover, it has support for Adreno Updateable Drivers, something that Qualcomm originally introduced with the Snapdragon 865, but not the 765.
"We are uniquely positioned to accelerate 5G commercialization at scale and Snapdragon 768G is an example of how we’re continuing to deliver solutions to address the needs of our OEM customers," said Kedar Kondap, vice president, product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. "Our expanding portfolio has the potential to make 5G accessible to billions of smartphone users around the world."
As you'd expect, the Snapdragon 768G includes those key Snapdragon Elite Gaming features. It supports 120Hz screens, 10-bit HDR, and more. And of course, it has the same Snapdragon X52 5G Modem-RF System, supporting both mmWave and sub6 for up to 3.7Gbps download speeds.
The first device to use the new chipset is Xiaomi's Redmi K30 5G Racing Edition, which also includes a 120Hz display and a 64-megapixel camera.
