The company officially slashed the price of the Essential Phone in Canada to CAD $650 which launched earlier this year, a price drop of CAD $400 compared to its original CAD $1050 price tag.

Andy Rubin's Essential has been pushing forward ever since its handset was teased in March. While the firm does offer its device unlocked, those in Canada will be able to pick it up from TELUS.

A few days after Bell, Virgin Mobile, and various other Canadian carriers released Android 7.0 for the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, Rogers and Telus have begun rolling out the Nougat update to both devices.

Canadian carrier Telus - which accurately predicted the release date of Android 6.0 Marshmallow last year - has published details saying that Android 7.0 Nougat will begin rolling out on August 22.

After Samsung began its Marshmallow rollout for the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge in February, the update is now starting to make its way to both devices in Canada, starting on Eastlink, Bell and Telus.

A carrier that posted the date on which it would begin rolling out Android 6.0 to existing devices has since deleted those details - but if accurate, it could hint at a faster rollout than Lollipop.
