The official YouTube app comes to Apple Vision Pro

Better late than never. YouTube has started rolling out its new spatial app for Vision Pro. Here's what it offers.
Apple Vision Pro

It's been two full years since Apple's super expensive spatial computing headset arrived on the market. Vision Pro's initial launch included a collection of just 600 apps to get started, and the world's most popular video platform, YouTube, wasn't one of them.

At the time, YouTube had no immediate plans to launch a native app for Apple Vision Pro, but later reversed course. Vision Pro users have since relied on YouTube's web version in Safari and third-party alternatives. But, not anymore.

YouTube has finally launched a native app for Vision Pro to watch videos on a giant virtual screen, now available on the App Store. You can watch every YouTube video using the new spatial app, including standard rectangular videos, Shorts, and 3D 360-degree and VR180 videos. You can also watch YouTube videos in visionOS environments.

The app weighs 180MB in size and is available in over 76 languages. It goes without saying that you can access your saved subscriptions, playlists, watch history, and other stuff tied to your YouTube account.

While the YouTube app supports 8K UHD videos on Vision Pro, they only work with the M5 version of the headset, introduced last year with faster performance, sharper visuals, and extended battery life. Note that your Vision Pro headset should run visionOS 26 (or later) to support the YouTube app.

Several apps enabled users to access YouTube when the official YouTube app was unavailable. The list includes Juno, which was created by Apollo developer Christian Selig. The app was updated to support 360- and 180-degree YouTube videos before it got kicked out of the App Store following Google's trademark complaint.

That said, Vision Pro still lacks native support for several popular entertainment apps, such as Netflix and Spotify. Netflix didn't even allow its iPad app to work on Apple's $3,499 headset, leaving Safari as the only official way to access it.
