Windows 8 invades MTV's European Music Awards

Microsoft is calling in the big guns to help promote their new Windows ecosystem. Earlier today we reported that they were hiring Jay-Z and Gwen Stefani, among others, to help promote Windows Phone 8, and today’s MTV Europe Music Awards brought Windows 8 to the center stage.

Hosts Heidi Klum and Sway used a massive Windows 8-powered monitor to interact with viewers through social media and keep up to date with what was going on backstage. It looks like the whole event was pretty shameless about showing off Windows 8, with plenty of Microsoft and Windows logos adorning viewer's TVs. Live Tiles were, unsurprisingly, everywhere.

Oddly enough, even though Windows 8 was front and center during the event, MTV decided to restrict the event’s social apps (Gary Ellis, MTV’s VP of content and operations, said that “It’s not about TV or online or social. It’s truly a connected, social television experience”) to iOS, forcing Windows users to rely on their mobile website. Needless to say, it wasn’t nearly as slick of an experience.

Microsoft is really on a roll with advertising the new Windows experience. For the first time in over a decade, it’s hard to turn on the TV without being reminded of Microsoft’s new products, and it really does seem like Windows 8 is everywhere.
