XCOM 2 and Insurmountable are free on the Epic Games Store this week

Epic Games Store's freebie run is back with two more games this week. Replacing Rogue Legacy and The Vanishing of Ethan Carter drops from last week are copies of XCOM 2 and Insurmountable, continuing the streak of double giveaways.

Developed by Firaxis Games, XCOM 2 continues the alien fighting turn-based tactics experience that began with XCOM: Enemy Unknown. You return as the Commander 20 years after the original games' storyline, and this time, the aliens have already won the fight for the planet. This is the base game that's being offered.

Here's how the store page description of the setting goes:

Earth has changed. Twenty years have passed since world leaders offered an unconditional surrender to alien forces. XCOM, the planet’s last line of defense, was left decimated and scattered. Now, in XCOM 2, the aliens rule Earth, building shining cities that promise a brilliant future for humanity on the surface, while concealing a sinister agenda and eliminating all who dissent from their new order.

Meanwhile, Insurmountable is a roguelike strategy title that has you taking the role of a lonely mountaineer who is tackling the task of procedurally generated mountains. Dynamic weather systems, day night cycles, random events, and permadeath also throw more wrenches into the mix.

Insurmountable is an adventure roguelike with permadeath, in which the player has to overcome huge mountains. Thanks to the procedurally created environment, no two climbs are the same. Make sure that your climber stays alive by always making sure that your vital values don't get into the critical range.
