Lenovo ThinkPad T490 unboxing and first impressions

The ThinkPad T-series is meant to be the workhorse of the lineup, and this year's model is no exception. Along with a solid build, it now includes a QHD Dolby Vision screen, a new dGPU, and more.

Lenovo's ThinkPad T-series is the most popular in its entire lineup. This year, its workstation family got even better, despite dropping the hot-swappable battery.

For one thing, the display is much better than it was before. The bezels have been reduced by 22%, and it now comes in a QHD option with Dolby Vision HDR. It's a much more beautiful experience than the anti-glare 1080p screen that I remember on the ThinkPad T480 last year.

The audio experience on the ThinkPad T490 is better as well, with a Dolby Audio speaker bar placed above the keyboard. There's an IR camera for Windows Hello, and this time, you don't have to choose between the privacy guard and facial recognition. This model comes with both.

It's lighter than last year's 3.49-pound model, coming in at 3.23 pounds. It's also almost over 2mm thinner, coming in at 17.9mm thick. Frankly, it just doesn't feel heavy or bulky anymore.
