2 things i don't like:

Falling damage is way too high.

Equipment degrades really fast. (why did they even add this, just waste of time having to make sure i have repair kits)

LOL. this is not dark souls

Fall damage is ridiculous. Fall off a knee high wall, 3/4 of health bar lol.

Think it's the one near the route to Novigrad. You get a loot hunt for armor schematics which leads you there if you don't find it first by exploring.

Game may well be my GoTY, and that's beating Bloodborne! Really fantastic RPG. So many interesting characters as well as cool monsters/ties to real world lore.

Staggering amount of content as well. Makes Dragon Age seem like a poor shell of MMO fetch quests. Don't get me wrong this is fetch quests hidden behind the scenes as well, but all from voice acted NPCs with interesting stories.

Will have to check it out.  I am doing the Barron Quest now in the 2nd city you get to. Family Matters.  Need to start getting in to crafting items. Just been using armor/weapons I found so far.

I have a feeling this will take me a long time to finish.  I dont do every side quest in games, but I do most of them.

Just stay on your horse.  You can fall pretty food distances and no get hurt at all....

in witcher 2 you can sort items by weight and by price.      i don't see this option here. just "sort"

weird.  am i missing something?

I imagine that eventually either the mod scene will add that feature in or CD will officially do it. I don't know if they've released the tools for people to create those kinds of mods yet though.

Remember that they completely changed the UI in The Witcher 2 from it's original release to 2.0.

i only discovered the witcher when witcher 2 EE was already available.

so i don't know the details.    i tried to avoid RPGs for a good reason.     i sunk 100 hours in DA:I and now it looks like i will do the same with W3.

that is 200 hours i am not getting back.   i always prefered a solid 8-20 hours action or adventure games.

but in case of witcher 3 i feel good about it.    DA:I  got me wasting too much time of side quests, but in witcher 3 side quests feel just as rewarding as main story :)

so i might as well enjoy it, instead of 5-10 games i don't like as much.

I agree the side quests in the witcher 3 don't have the mmo feel that DAI did but they are still pretty generic imo.  That being said, despite not being revolutionary they actually fit in because hunting monsters is what you expect a witcher to do.  Going off and collecting blankets or chasing chickens isn't what you expect the general of an army (inquisition) to be doing.

I'm enjoying it but I laugh to myself with some quests as it feels like im playing CSI: Witcher edition

just met an old friend/enemy :)   first time i notice the choices from previous game actually work (i managed to get the savefiles imported, even though i never had that game on this pc...)

overall, an extremely pleasing experience, trumping DA:I  all over the place, EXCEPT:

They hould have done an all inclusive overlay of inactive quests on your map so you can do them if you are near them,

rather than selecting them and seeing if they are near you then doing the next one etc. takes forever, switching back and forward.  a CHORE.

I was in the area where there where 2 decent leveled quests, but because i saw nothing on the map, i left.    apparently you have to have the quest active, to see the mark. stupid!

fast travel from signpost only?   stupid!   how much more sense does it make to teleport from village to village, then from forest to village?     adding unnecessaty running around, especially in the area already expolored.

Think I've hit my first bug. Roche doesn't appear at the bridge in Oxenfurt on the Get Junior quest :(

horse?  getting stuck all over the place? cannot jump over a tiny fence that Gerald can EASY jump over?   stupid.

i wonder when the patches are coming.

ALSO:

people are saying about how much better it looks with lower color saturation (closer to 2013 trailer look) using sweetFX

anyone used it?

https://sfx.thelazy.net/games/game/970/

seems a lot of stuff there.   anyone used anything like that with success?  a lot of tweaks, with no idea of performance hits,  and too much options at the first glance.

anyone did some tweaking to make it look better without a majot performance hit?    point me to an easy guide, or explain to me what to do PLEASE.

Couple tips....

Get the saddle bag in Velen town of Oreton. South from Crow's Perch along the shore. Gives you increases your inventory by 70. Costs 350 or so gold, but worth it. Much easier to loot an not have to sell so often. And do the treasure hunts. Some great loot.

Think I've hit my first bug. Roche doesn't appear at the bridge in Oxenfurt on the Get Junior quest :(

Roche is dumb. Sometimes, you have to run a little distance for him to come when summoned. I have a treasure hunt quest that I cannot complete. Says to read something, I did, but quest never continues. So bugged. Hopefully there will be a fix

ffs avoid latest NV drivers if you own NV970

To evaluate,

PSA: If you are getting crashes or black screens and general instability with NVIDIA GPUs with the latest drivers ('Witcher 3 Optimized' ones), downgrade to 350.12 instead. And do it in safe mode and use an application like Display Driver Uninstaller. That seemed to fix issues for me.

fighting the werewolf in the lair in the early part part of this game is giving me rage issues...

Come back to it when you leveled up and have a better silver sword. I tried it at first, and kept getting my ass kicked and the regen was crazy on the werewolf. Do other quests and when you are the same level or above, and with better weapons, much easier. Went down in seconds.

Or you could use curse oil to halt his regen and beast oil can give you extra damage to stimmy the regen.  This fight also seems to favour an aggressive approach, quick attacks and rolling away give him to drop a beat and regen

You can use more than 1 oil at a time?

Guys Roche is a character :p The horse is Roach.

Seems it sometimes fixes itself. No luck for me yet.

yeah, it was super easy fight for me, i even felt bad for a were wolf since he was such a ######.

i am experiencing rage at Jenny though.  i am correct level, but it fells like i am no where near it.  i wasted 30 minutes fighting her.   gonna have to come back with better level and sword... it is just too much for me.

Cast Yrden let her come to you. When she gets in the circle, attack. Don't get hit. Repeat until she is dead. Only get a couple slashes with the sword before she attacks. So slash her a couple times and then move

yeah, i did mostly side quests, now i finished a bunch of story (man i love the charactares, feel like deja vu, i guess i must have seen them in trailer *jhonny)

i can probably kill her easy now.

so far, again, i have no wonder, that game got high ratings.  downgrades, bugs, are all understandable.   there is just so much lore, and so much stories...   i enjoyed DA:I but this one pulls so many more strings, then the stories there...

someone left me a book at shopkeeper in novigrad that deals in books.

i was so happy to find a guy who deals in books to unload all the useless letters and books that i have....

i now don't know which book was the one left for me?    can you guys remember?   i did not read it, so i am likely missing some useful info, as i sold all the books!

the game is so much better if you switch off the overly dramatic music.

when you play there are many ambient sounds, and you will not miss the music one bit. (you can always switch it on for cut scenes, if you need.

after playing without it for a few hours, and switching it back on, i realized just how annoying it is when there is no action.  much more natural without it!

    • Same Internet Archive seemed to grab the new version https://web.archive.org/web/20...d/Setup_MakeMKV_v1.18.4.exe Here's the link to an additional file it periodically downloads https://web.archive.org/web/20260213092148/https://www.makemkv.com/sdf.bin I think update's keys, etc. To manually trigger this update, put the sdf.bin file in the root of where the program is installed. When you launch the program it will pick up the file and import it. Typically put it here: C:\Program Files (x86)\MakeMKV\sdf.bin
    • Windows 11 KB5094126, KB5093998 bugging out Office apps but it may not be Microsoft's fault by Sayan Sen Microsoft last week released Windows 11 KB5094126 and KB5093998 as the latest Patch Tuesday updates. Following that the company also published the accompanying dynamic updates under KB5094149, KB5095971, and KB5094156. Although the tech giant did not acknowledge any major problems, some users online reported various issues ranging from OneDrive and Dropbox access problems, BitLocker recovery lockouts, to blue screens and BSODs. You can read about them in this dedicated piece. While there is still no confirmation about those problems from Microsoft the company has admitted to another bug which we did not report on. The tech giant has confirmed it has received reports of an issue in which certain third-party applications may be unable to launch Microsoft Office apps or open Office documents after installing the Patch Tuesday. This affects both Windows 11 as well as Windows 10. The company says the problem impacts a subset of applications that rely on OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) automation to communicate with Microsoft Office programs. According to Microsoft, affected scenarios involve third-party software attempting to open Office applications or documents from within their own interface. In such cases, the Office program may fail to launch altogether, or the requested document may not open. Oddly there may not be any error message, which probably makes the issue difficult to diagnose. The bug affects several Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and other apps in the Microsoft Office suite when they are launched through the affected software. These include tax and accounting software such as CCH Engagement and Workpaper Manager, dental practice management solutions like Dentrix and Softdent, as well as the popular research and reference management tool Zotero. Microsoft adds that other applications using similar Office integration methods could also experience the same problematic behavior. To understand the issue it is important to look at OLE, the Microsoft technology involved. OLE allows different applications to work together and share data, while its Automation feature lets one program control another. Thus this enables third-party software to launch Microsoft Office apps, open documents, and perform tasks automatically without requiring users to switch between programs. Because many accounting, healthcare, research, and business applications rely on OLE automation to interact with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other Office apps, any disruption can break those workflows. As a result, affected software may be unable to open Office documents or launch Office applications even though the programs themselves continue to work normally. At the moment the company has not provided a permanent fix though it has confirmed that engineers are actively working on a resolution, which will be delivered through a future Windows update. As such additional details will be shared once more information becomes available. In the meantime, Microsoft recommends a simple workaround for affected users whic is to open the Office application or document directly rather than launching it through the third-party program. For enterprise customers and organizations managing larger deployments, Microsoft says an additional mitigation is available. Admins experiencing the problem on their managed devices are advised to contact Microsoft Support for business to obtain and apply the workaround.
