Well the problem is that Bungie things that the way to add difficulty in "dungeons" and "raids" is to add more health and immunity. It's like they've learned nothing in the decade of other companies doing this, and any end game content being that simple and unintelligent gets bashed by the entire gamer fanbase. 

 

I get what you're saying and I'm not disagreeing with you, but Bungie didn't have to copy other games with this. They are allowed a bit of creative freedom to try and create something new. If they just copied any other game then they would have been criticized for it so it sounds like they were never going to win. Sure with hindsight they may sit back and wish they had gone with a more traditional route but it doesn't hurt to try something new.

 

I also personally feel that this game isn't aimed at (and is perhaps why you don't like it) your typical MMO audience that enjoy the current formula, they're trying to appeal to the CoD, Halo and Battlefield audience and people who wouldn't normally play an MMO, I certainly haven't.

They they can't wish they went with the traditional route, they did, as traditional and old fashioned as it gets. well not quite, older games like Metroid before boss fights where simplified to just pump it full of led in Doom and Quake was more advanced again. 

 

PS, what I don't like about the game has nothing to do with MMO, i don't want it to be an MMO. it's because they're doing bad decisions on it as a shooter. And trying to be an MMO in areas and doing it really badly. Either they need to be a shooter and do that well, or they need to integrate the "MMO" elements in a proper good way. Not half assed and different just to be different, but worse. I have enough MMO's to play I don't need Destiny to be one, and it isn't.

Playing for 11 hours and dying 200 times (per person) is awesome? Whatever they got for it can't have been worth it. Just reminds me of the south park WoW episode.

As long as they had fun (and that is what I have heard), yup it's awesome. I have been playing it and loving every second of it. Best game this year so far.

Ah fair enough, I think I completely missed your point about the more health thing being the older way of doing it. I did read it and then wrote my reply without even considering it. I guess the only reason it doesn't bother me so much is because i haven't played a game like this for a very very long time. Borderlands is probably the closest but I only played a bit of the first one and got bored (more because I was always on my own).

I'll comment once/if I ever manage to get that far (level 12 atm) but I actually like the idea of something taking more than 20 minutes to complete. 11 Hours might be the opposite and extreme side of the scale but I would hope to get a real satisfaction after doing so.

I put up a match of myself playing Control on the Crucible. Honestly, I am having a load of fun with this game, I can see why others may not like it but I guess there's so much to love from Halo that it carried over to Destiny with me. The marketing behind Destiny was uncalled for and that's why it hurt itself but if you didn't buy into any of that you can really just play the game for what it is.

Not really.. Raids are really really addictive.. They are also not for everyone but for the most persistent ones. You could enjoy Destiny without ever playing raids and that's fine, but if you want to be a bad ass, get the hottest gear and weapons you will need to do raids..and that's only fair.

Let me tell you what's fun about raids. It's the puzzle aspect of it and teamwork. It's unlike anything you've played before. Fireteam of 6 depends on each other and every aspect of each level, each puzzle, each boss battle has to synced to perfection among 6 people.

What makes raids frustrating makes them also incredibly addictive and satisfying when you pass each stage of the raid.

You should watch Twitch broadcasts if you want to see how it works. People playing simply don't want to quit for the most part because of that challenge and less about the rewards..though, having an all white armor for completing raid, making you clearly stand apart from everyone else for completing it and getting mean weapons and armor is just a plus.

Not really. After you beat the story you don't earn experience. All there are are different types of points which enable you to buy new stuff that you can also win, which you then get to use to play the same thing over and win more of the same. There doesn't really seem to be a goal there. It seems like any other FPS but with some shiny things that you get for dredging through insane difficulty. Personally, I went back to Titanfall yesterday.

I see why others like that, but its not for me. I liked destiny when I was playing through the story, but I'm not a fan of gameplay that's difficult for the sake of difficult and I don't like crucible as much as MP on many other FPS games so there isn't much left.

I picked this game up yesterday and I'm really enjoying it. Already a level 8 Warlock. I did one of the Earth strikes and that was pretty fun, though it was more time consuming than I had anticipated. I got a rocket launcher from it though :D The public events are pretty cool as well. 

 

My major gripe, and the one thing I can't believe they screwed up, is the crucible. The matchmaking is absolutely awful. Putting a level 8 against levels 24+ is in no way fair. I seriously despised the 15 minute match that I was playing. I would spawn and then within a minute or two, I'm dead. The matchmaking in Halo was pretty good; what happened? 

 

All in all it's a good game so far; hopefully I'll end up finding more free time to play it. 

The game allows you to enter the crucible before lvl 20, but you're really not supposed to be there untill lvl 20...

Yeah I had a much better tone at lvl 15 than I did at around lvl 6, which I thought would be fine since they say they even things out and I was being offered crucible bounties, but no.

Finally had the time to beat the game last night. Rather glad that I did. Now i can go about procuring some legendaries and epics :D

 

I have still never found a rare or higher helm or gauntlet though. everything else i have is rare :D

Bollocks, that's the one thing I HATE in any MP game this happens.... One reason I avoid a lot of competitive online play if it just means me dying over and over at the start.

The thing is the crucible is supposed to balance everyone to the same level. which is sort of does but it only affects weapon damage, higher level weapons are still much better due to other stats, and higher level armor especially if far far better. and you can blast someone in the chest point blank with a fusion rifle, then punch them and they won't be scratched, they in turn punch you once and you're dead. and that's when you're level 20 with 20 gear.

It also doesn't help that if you pick up patrols at low levels, higher levels can come in during it and render you obsolete. I've had 3 times now at level 4-7 where I've tried a patrol and level 26+ players jump in and all I get from shooting enemies is "Immune. Immune. Immune. Immune." and I have to abandon the mission.

a higher level being in your are shouldn't affect it, but remember even on earth there are areas with above lvl 20 enemies whether there's lvl 26 players around or not. 

 

What I found was the enemies got more difficult only when others joined the instance. It may just be coincidence, but three times now I was doing fine in the patrol until higher levels showed up. Enemies I was initially fighting were fine, but ones that spawned after the others joined the instance were outclassing me entirely. So, as I said. Either an unlikely coincidence it's happened 3 times now or the game is made to scale so you don't have someone higher level than you helping plow through missions/patrols (aka fighting boosters).

Nah, in roaming/patrols enemy difficulty is based on the area of the world you are in. As a 20 i can spawn With broken network and be all by myself and they're all the starter levels where they should be.

 

Not sure why I was starting a level 4 patrol and was against enemies who were immune then.

Why are you not supposed to be there until 20? Crucible is balanced.. it doesn't matter so much when it comes to weapons and damage.. so a player level 6 can dominate players level 27. Doesn't matter.

It doesnt' matter if you are level 8.. the damage is the same for all in crucible. Your abilities and weapon abilities are the only thing that is unique to your specific class which you can have at level 8 as well. 

 

It's not like you go in, level 24 has super high damage on weapons and legendary weapons and you are just there to get abused. It doesn't work that way. We are all basically the same in Crucible when it comes to levels.

The shields and abilities make a huge difference. The weapon balance is almost irrelevant because of those. I was getting destroyed when I went in at lvl 6 and then subsequently destroyed others when I went back at lvl 15. I certainly didn't play differently, I just had better abilities and better armor. It sucks being in there at an early level no matter what they try and say about balance.

Getting very bored of this game while trying to get my level up enough to do the raid. The artificial difficulty and bullet sponge enemies are just taking all fun out of this experience. The game itself was too short and making it a grind to proceed is not good game design. I can see why it was panned in reviews

    • A few weeks ago, I had this same exact issue. Unfortunately, I didn't think of disabling the Secure Boot option in BIOS. I updated my BIOS to the latest version for my MB and it resolved the issue.
    • I have a partial answer, when I used a multi-port usb hub I had degraded speed performance with 3 large external hard drives connected (all having their own power supply). I managed to snag a nice (yet older) USB3 based wavelink docking station cheap / used that has x6 usb 3 ports and almost doubled the speed of the external hard drives transfer rate.
