Timed PlayStation-exclusive content announced for Destiny?s The Dark Below

Tuesday, 2nd December 2014 16:35 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

The first Destiny expansion, The Dark Below, will come with all sorts of new maps, story missions, gear, and timed PlayStation-exclusive content.

This exclusive content was announced today on the PlayStation Blog, and includes another Strike on Mars called The Undying Mind; and a new exotic weapon called the 4th Horseman shotgun. It sports four barrels, five shots, and fast fire rate.

Both are exclusive to PlayStation until ?at least? fall 2015, according to Sony.

The rest of the content in The Dark Below, coming to both platforms, includes new story missions against the Hive god, the increase in Light level to 32, five additional bounty slots, three new competitive multiplayer maps, the Will of Crota co-op Strike, a new six-player Raid, and plenty of weapons and gear in which to further customize your Guardian.

Here?s a bullet list:

  • New story missions that pit you against a Hive god.
  • New weapons, armor, and gear to further customize your Guardian.
  • The ability to increase your Light level to 32, and five additional bounty slots.
  • Three new competitive multiplayer maps: Pantheon, Skyshock, and The Cauldron.
  • New cooperative Strike: The Will of Crota. Purge a twisted horror from the Cosmodrome.
  • An additional resident of the Tower: Eris, a resolute survivor of an ill-fated mission.
  • And a new six-player Raid: Crota?s End. Face him in the deepest dark.

The Dark Below launches on December 9.

I'm still enjoying it, I do get a tad bored sometimes but overall I'm enjoying it. I've not purchased any of the DLC yet but I suspect I will before the 9th comes.

I've only just managed to get myself through the Raid on normal, gonna attempt it again tonight on normal to try and get the last armour piece (chest) that I need to allow myself to get up to 30 before I try it on hard.

Haven't played this for almost a month now, is it still a boring grind fest? What does the upcoming dlc add?

You can now trade marks for materials, so that takes out a lot of grinding. You also get them from bounties and daily/weekly missions too. Exotics no longer require ascendent materials to level up.

New DLC adds new weapons, armor, a raid, a strike, new sparrows, a new vendor and new story missions.

I think I'm going to be perpetually stuck at level 29. I've gotten nearly everything you can get from the raid, except for the gauntlets and the chest piece. Hiding the max level behind RNG was a terrible design decision.

I was lucky enough to get the chest and gauntlets from the only single raid I've played. Also got the boots from the iron banner event, and today the fugly exotic warlock helmet from Xur.

Just in time for all that gear to be rendered obsolete by the DLC, I guess.

Not much of a difference though, I'll be stuck at level 30. I don't have a 6 men team to grind raids (and I usually don't feel like teaming up with random strangers), and apparently the new raid gear requires raid stuff for the upgrades.

fugly exotic warlock helmet from Xur.

funny you say fugly when 90% of warlocks have that exotic helmet

so nice try & i have all raid gear for my warlock & still get raid gear for my warlock every time i play on hard

4 helmets, 3 gaunlets, 2 chests & 2 legs

funny you say fugly when 90% of warlocks have that exotic helmet

Well, it's the easiest way to get to level 30: lvl26 raid gear (maybe with some iron banner pieces) + Xur's exotic helmet (ie. light beyond nemesis if your are a warlock, which is the helmet he's been selling more often).

Not an aesthetics thing  :D

  • 2 weeks later...

The new raid extended strike  :p soloed in about 30 mins.

Reminds me of running through Crysis2 in invisibility mode  the only cooperative part of that raid seems to be that without invisibility you'd need a lot of ammo and firepower.

Destiny: Bungie reveal Holiday bonus and warn fans of impending 'noob' flood
IT'S been a busy year for the guys at Bungie, with a lot of Destiny feedback to go through as fans make up their minds about the game's first expansion, the Dark Below.

Destiny will have a Holiday bonus

Fans on the Xbox One and PS4 have been warned they face a flood of Christmas noobs to the online world of the epic space shooter, who should, Bungie say, be treated with care by the community.

"Destiny is about to receive a stampeding influx of what gamers inevitably refer to as

Hey, i'm a pre-Christmas n00b - only got the game on Friday but I am almost at level 16... been playing with one of my friends who restarted again so we can go through it from the start (he has level 29 and level 27 characters).

Enjoying it with a friend... but single player is "meh".

WildWayz,

There really isn't much of a single player in Destiny, back in Beta and when the game first came out there were people all over the place in every zone you went to so it felt more like an MMO. These days it just feels empty with everyone either doing Strikes, Raids, or Crucible.

I think tonight, my friend and I are going to do some raids / strikes.

When I initially got the game (I am also new to FPS on consoles), I thought i'd never be able to get used to it - but thankfully, after a while it becomes second nature! Half thinking about buying the season pass too.

PSN has been offline for quite a while now (not sure if globally but over here at least, and it still shows as offline on the PSN status web) for unspecified reasons (likely a DDOS attack). I've just managed to log in, and it's now Bungie who's saying that the Destiny servers are down.

Coincidence? DDOS targeting both services? Aliens?

According Bungie the issues with Destiny are affecting all the platforms, so it doesn't seem to be a DDos on Sony affecting also Destiny's servers.

  • 3 weeks later...

Roger H.  I thought the same thing, then I bought it... and an Xbox One... and "the dark below" expansion in the last two weeks.  Its probably one of the better games out there right now.

The digital download for the 360 allowed you to bring it over to the One for free (before Jan 5th) so I took advantage of that.  Having it for both systems is a plus.  Gameplay is the same on both, the only difference is the textures.  Graphics quality is better on the One... but otherwise the gameplay is the same.

Going to do this with Call of Duty too.  I think I have til March to do it.  Buy for the 360, get it for free on the One.  Has to be the digital download as well.  All DLC transfers too.

So I finally got to level 20, and the question now is, now what?

I get the augmented levelling system with regards to light, but I've had a host of new content opened up that I don't entirely get. Like what are the factions for?, is earning rep with them purely for buying their items, or does it factor into other things.

Edit: I get that it's like the vanguard stuff, but it just seems like a way to do the grind over again another 3 times to open up their inventories.

If you have the expansion pass, then ignore faction rep, the factions were great for gear and weapons with different stats, (ie discipline, strength or intellect, which helps a certain play style, <use of supercharge, grenades etc>) but I'm almost 32 and all 3 of my stats are in the high 80% using the expansion gear and some raid pieces

You can get legendary (epic level) gear and weapons from the specific vanguard vendors if you need to level up further, and buy exotics from Zur, (currently located in Tower Hanger, turn right as you descend the stairs This weekend) but with the new content out, and the hard mode for Crota coming very soon, you'd probably be doing yourself a favour by just getting the vanguard commendations getting your character(s) ready.

ALSO REMEMBER, if by any chance, you get a 'Husk of the Pit' do not dismantle it, (It starts off as a regular white level weapon but the stats blow away almost everything in it's level class) but upgraded, it becomes 'Eidolon Ally' an impressive although low impact Legendary weapon, which can be further upgraded to an Exotic. Assuming you have 'The Dark Below' Expansion

Yeah, I got the season pass, that lady keeps bugging me about Crota.

So ignore the factions and focus on the vanguard? I know the strikes give strange coins (Only got 2 currently) and I can buy from Xur with those, and now bounties are starting to level me up rather quickly. And I'll keep that in mind about the "Husk of the Pit", so far I've just been scrapping items as I've gotten better ones, not thinking much about what benefits the specific items give me (Having extra ammo doesn't help me if the gun does barely any damage, etc.)

Is there any specific type of weapons I should be aiming for? Currently I've got a pulse rifle and shotgun, but while playing PvP all the higher level players had auto rifles and fusion rifles and they wiped the floor with me. I'm also wondering about the damage types, since only my shotgun does something other than kinetic

For now, unless you prefer pvp combat in the crucible or iron banner (when available) once you're level 30+ you can select harder difficulties for the daily story and get more coins and ascendant materials, (which in turn level your gear up)

Damage modifiers on guns is cool, and unless you're in the nightfall (and the damage modifier is specified), any modifier (Arc, Solar or Void) will suffice I run with mostly solar damage weapons, as my Titan has arc and void abilities (in grenades and supers) the best weapon to keep an eye out for would be Gjallahorn, an Exotic Solar Damage Rocket Launcher for your heavy, secondary heavy, any machine gun of your choice. Primary and specials depend on your play style, I run auto rifles for primary and fusion rifles for special, but backed up with sniper rifles, (I don't run shotguns) The Gjallahorn and The Culling for heavy..

I've been stuck at a Level 25 hunter for a couple of weeks now. My light armour is maxed out - two legendary guns - level 3 crypto... but can't seem to get any further. I've been doing daily challenges and weekly ones too (well, the recent one was too hard for my friend and I - he is a level 26).

I've done all the Crota bounties now too.

My loadout is a SUROS JPS-55 Pulse Rifle, Legendary Mumur Fusion Rifle, Legendary MG18A Machine Gun.

I've tried going into the PVP Crucible games but it ALWAYS dumps me against level 30+ players - so I get low kills so no progression.

Can't you just buy the new vanguard armor pieces? The max out at level 30 IIRC, maybe 31 if you also buy an exotic armor piece from Xur.

If you have completed all the Crota missions you should have obtained one free piece of armor with a max light value of 33 from Eris, you'd only need 3 more pieces. If you buy or have already an exotic helmet you can buy the 2 remaining pieces with one week worth of vanguard marks.

It's quite easy to get to level 30 or 31 since they released the DLC. I'm seeing almost no one below 30 around when playing, other than a few with new characters that haven't reached lvl 20 yet.

Thanks. Level 26 now.

Got 4 legendary guns, one legendary cloak, 1 legendary ship and 1 legendary gauntlet. Eris missions done (urn).

Bummer is, I have legendary helmet, boots and chest pieces but not for my character, so they are in the vault..

    • So how did you solve the problem? Disabling Secure Boot isn’t a solution.
    • Another devilish issue surrounding these certificates is what can happen with old, unsuspecting PCs that nevertheless have Secure Boot enabled. In my case, it was a Dell with a 3rd-gen Core chip (so about 13 years old). As of the last few weeks, it was suddenly BSOD'g within about 5 minutes of booting. Turns out it was because of MS's "Secure-Boot-Update" scheduled task, which is scheduled to run 5 minutes after login. It's explained in gory detail here (this is not my post, but it was where I found the answer), but the short version is that this legacy system would need fairly elaborate, manual certificate intervention since MS's automatic cert update method cannot work. How to do that is linked late in the thread. https://www.bleepingcomputer.c...od-caused-by-scheduled-task Secure Boot wasn't at all important for this particular PC, so I disabled it to be done with the problem.
