Does anyone know what kind of variety there is for melee weapons in this? Is it just pipes, bats, and machetes? Are katanas or other types of swords in the game at all? Similarly, I read that there are now unique weapons that drop off of legendary enemies, but the only examples I could find in some reviews were guns; does anyone know if the same is true for melee weapons?

If you couldn't tell, I was thinking about trying a strength/melee character, but it really depends on the weapon choices I would have.

I'm sure there are power fists and claws like in other fallout games. In fallout 3 there was swords (shiskabob). So there is a probably a decent variety of melee weapons.

Thanks for the clarification in any case. (BTW — is your forum handle a reference to the Angel Heart film/Robert De Niro's character?)

I've never seen it, it was just a random shower thought. :p

I wonder if Codsworth will get my name right or call me Lewis like some American Text To Speech. :(

Pre-loaded earlier today, purchased last Friday. I actually found an awesome site for keys that have great deals. Paid $58.68CAD instead of the crazy $79.99

For any that are looking, it's still cheaper but not as much ($66CAD). cdkeys dot com. I didn't link as I'm not sure its allowed.

It's now 9:30PM the 9th, not sure if it starts working at 12AM, or if I have to wait for like a different timezone.

NA has 1 hour left to wait, wont be long. :p

Not sure if its NVidia's new driver or Bethesda but I have no resolutions in settings, so I'm forced to play it in windowed mode. >.<

Having played many hundreds of hours in New Vegas its so weird how beautifully detailed the environment is in FO4, everything just looks awesome. \o/

Apparently funny things start happening if you go above 60 fps. Seems like they tied physics to fps. That being said you can turn off vsync.

My internet is slow and it won't finish downloading for about 8 more hours and that makes me sad. I was actually on the fence about buying the game or waiting for a GOTY edition until today where I decided I didn't want to wait.

I managed a little over an hour in total last night (damn new job, can't get day off), and so far it's looking good. I have the settings at medium (on an i7 3700K/750Ti at 1920x1200) and it runs pretty smoothly. I got as far as getting to the red rocket building just outside the home street before I had to go to sleep. Another few hours tonight and I can start to get a better idea of what this game will be like.

Oh, and having the Pip Boy running on my Nexus 10 propped on my keyboard and being able to access it without pausing in game... awesome!

Been reading from reviewers that it's a good Fallout game, but typical Bethesda buggy as all hell, some even game breakingbreaking on PC and console

The trademark Bethesda engine. Man, they really need to create a new engine instead of layering on top of this one.

My copy and vault dwellers survival guide arrived. Will play after work \m/

I know it's early, but does anyone know how important the "Local Leader" perk is? I don't really want to put that many points into Charisma, but that perk seems hugely required if the settlement building is a big part of the game now.

It's using a different engine from FO3, similar to the Skyrim engine. Of course Skyrim had its share of problem on release, but they mostly got fixed in time.

I thought it's running on the same Gamebryo engine that Bethesda has been using for years? It may be updated a bit, but I believe it's the same one.

I'm in the same boat. I have a 29" ultrawide monitor that runs at 2560x1080. It's forcing me to run windowed mode at 16:9 or 16:10 resolutions... great...

Not according to Wikipedia:

The Creation Engine is an in-house engine created by Bethesda Game Studios (XnGine being the previous in-house engine by Bethesda). After using Gamebryo to create The Elder Scrolls III: MorrowindThe Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and Fallout 3, Bethesda decided that Gamebryo's graphics were becoming too outdated and began work on Creation Engine for their next game, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The Creation Engine offers basic real-time shadows and more detail to distant objects. The updated version of the Creation Engine, that is powering Bethesda's Fallout 4, offers physically based rendering,[1] dynamic volumetric lighting,[2] the ability to build structures in-game, advanced character creation, etc.[3]

    • Looks like no official TBW rating, which should be a required listing in my opinion for sites like Amazon (hell, put it on the box too.)
    • I think I understood the article fine. Online password managers open users up to more possibilities of getting hacked, and due to KeePass being offline and local it reduces the idea of getting hacked. If someone chooses to put their database online they're kinda missing the point. With regards to the idea of the on-prem idea, I would have two issues. I'm not sure about the first issue, but I wouldn't be surprised about them offering a cloud storage for the passwords that most wouldn't bother to switch off, regardless of if they went for on-prem or not. The second issue is that the on-prem solution for Bitwarden costs money, whereas KeePass is free and open-source (as far as I am aware). The article points out how to sync the database between devices, and I recognise that deficiency in security. But it isn't a necessity. So both services can offer a same idea, but one is free and the other isn't...choices, choices.... But to each their own.

    • I am not surprised because life is the product of a lot of biochemical and physical processes that releases various energies as a by-product. The only thing new here is the detection of these photon emissions. The researches noted this "glow" is not a metaphysical one. They don't even immediately end when one is dead. Things like fires, light bulbs, and on a bigger scale stars release a lot more "light" and they are hardly alive.
