Xbox One 'New Experience' Update

Just got a message today, well, this morning or last night, don't remember exactly when, long story short, they're going to be moving ALL PREVIEW members to the new NX, so if you still don't want it till it goes final you'll have to actually opt-out of the insider program it sounds like.  I'm guessing this means they're pushing out a near final RC of it to everyone for wide spread testing before the last push to GA.

I think MS have huge guts doing that right before Halo 5's release with all the bugs I've seen. I hope it goes well.

TV Tuner no longer randomly shuts down the xbox (like a power off w/o error message).

Glad they got the TV stuff ironed out, as that is why I left the new experience a couple weeks ago. Now I look forward to it.

Quite sluggish for me with the video stuttering too - but not just MKV, all video files.. even Playback on Netflix.

NowTV doesn't work and neither does Amazon.

All to be expected though really.. although I would have expected to see the general performance improvements.

Did you get over the stuttering on video files by fast forwarding 30 seconds then possibly rewinding a couple to make it normal again like myself?

I have had the new OS for about 2 weeks or so and I am finally going to Opt Out. It keeps getting worse with each update.
I do not have many problems but the problems I do have are all related to Live TV.
Since this is how my entire family watches TV, not just myself, it has become a real issue.
Yesterday for some reason it took 3 restarts for the video of the cable box to finally show. Audio was playing no problem, just no picture.
Luckily I install all of my games on an external, so doing a factory restore should not be a huge deal.
I also much prefer the older OS to this new one, but there is nothing I can do about that as this is the new OS moving forward.

i wonder if we are getting different versions of the newest update...

Whenever I go to tv, it always says signal lost, and then several seconds later tv is working fine.

That's still a very large population of people who aren't used to this many problems.

Meh, given the way the win10 and win10mo previews have been I'm not surprised at all.

I might not've been prepared for them, but I kind of expected them nonetheless.

Well, we'll see. It's a good way for MS to get rid of unwanted "testers" that do nothing and make room for others.

From what I heard from my friend who's been in the PP for over a year, it was never this bad before Windows 10.

I don't think people who opt out are being removed from the preview program, from what it said when I did.

Not sure what all it said except that I can re-enroll.

They will once it hits general preview. Opting out then means from the entire program.

I have been reading a lot of positive stuff about the latest preview update patch addressing most of the issues. But I will still wait until they push it to me.

I've been having all sorts of sign in problems with the W10 dash. Auto-sign in worked flawlessly on previous Previews. Not sure what they've done...

As for the UI...I'm not a fan. The side menu is so slow and clunky to open. There's so much space wasted with elongated tiles. I don't like having to scroll all the way down for pins either. They're supposed to be quick access, not hidden.

Glad it's just not me. The sidebar has always been really slow for me, but absolutely fine with my mates :/

With regards to the pins, just press the right trigger and that should take you straight to pins.

I used to have problems with auto sign in until i found the buried option (in older builds) to let Kinect identify me again, since then it has been 100% fine, in the latest build the option is not hidden anymore and easy to find when not signed in.

You mean the option that's always been under the user select at the top and still is ? "I was not recognized" and it will update your identification.

Yes, but i think it wasn't in the earlier builds unless i am mistaken? In the original dash it was always under the username when logging in but i never remember seeing it a few builds ago.

I've never used Kinect. It's the normal account sign-in I use. Has that changed in the Win10 build?

i only ever did manual from the left hand menu if kinect didn't sign me in, there are loads of options for signing in though in settings which I am sure you have checked to try and fix your issue?

Yeah, Instant Sign In is enabled and my account is selected as normal. It's pretty annoying as even when I use the manual menu on the left it won't work. I have to restart the console or type in my password (even more of a pain).

i would try selecting another sign in option, then going back into the options and selecting instant sign in again as unselecting kinect and then selecting it again is what made it work again for me, so maybe your settings have gone pear shaped too?

Did my stuttering fix work for you? I just used it again, fast forwarded 30 seconds it still stuttered, then went back 5 seconds and it played fine. :)

Halo 4 Insider session extended, adds Halo Reach multiplayer for cross-play tests
      by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe

The latest Halo: The Master Chief Collection Insider session has received an extension and new features. The Halo 4-focused test began last week, and following today's extension, invited PC and Xbox One Insiders will be able to keep participating in the flight until November 6.

The new content comes in the form of Halo: Reach's multiplayer, including both multiplayer and Firefight modes, which Insiders will now download via a build update on all platforms. The intent of this bonus content is to further test the PC and Xbox One cross-play capabilities the studio is introducing with the Halo 4 launch onto the PC version of the Master Chief Collection.

The flight update also applies bug fixes for the current Halo 4 build and improvements to Halo: Reach. The full patch notes are available for Insiders to see on their HaloWaypoint Insider portal.

343 Industries invited every eligible Halo Insider to this flight as it prepares to launch the final game of the collection for PC. However, Insider sessions won't stop here, so those who are interested can still sign up for future flights by heading here. The Halo 4 content being tested in this flight was detailed last week, and can be found here.

Microsoft details all the features added and improvements made to Teams in October
      by Abhay Venkatesh

In line with the monthly schedule, Microsoft has detailed all the new features added to Teams in the month of October. The list is extensive this month with updates ranging from new meetings and calling experiences such as live transcription with speaker attribution, the general rollout of the new Spotlight feature, recording improvements, and more. There are also improvements to the file-sharing experience, and much more.

First up are the updates to the meeting capabilities. The Redmond firm has added live transcription capabilities with speaker attribution to make it easy to associate statements to the right attendees. The Spotlight feature that lets presenters lock video feeds in meetings is also generally available. The ability to hard mute attendees preventing them from unmuting their mics, especially useful in classroom scenarios, has also rolled out completely this month. The hard mute and Spotlight features are also being added to Teams Rooms. Whiteboard in Teams is also receiving some features, with users now able to present whiteboard content in read-only mode to gain control of the content and allow for edits when necessary.

There are improvements for users that use Teams feeds for broadcasts with advanced production options. With Network Device Interface (NDI) support, users can now stream specific meeting feeds to video streaming tools for better control in professional streaming setups.

As for improvements to recording meetings, admins can now set meetings and call recordings to be stored in OneDrive for Business or SharePoint locations, letting users access, manage, and share these recordings easily. Meeting organizers can also download participant reports in chats to analyze attendance and other participant stats. Lastly, there are some updates to meeting policies that now allow for incoming and outgoing video to be blocked by admins.

Next up are changes coming to chats and collaboration features. Users can now pin important posts to the top of the channel for easier access. The new ‘Offline’ status is also available in addition to the ‘Busy’ and ‘Do not disturb’ statuses, letting users set themselves to completely unavailable. The company is also bringing a new file sharing experience that lets users set access permissions for a file stored in OneDrive or SharePoint right from a chat screen when attaching the file. Users can also create shareable links for files stored in Teams. There are updates to SharePoint pages to allow for the easy addition of pages as tabs in the collaboration tool.

Other improvements include a revamped notifications settings page with better categorization, language-aware spellcheck that automatically switches to the desired language to check for errors based on the text, and the new 'templates' feature that enables users to set up a new Team with less work using pre-defined industry templates.

Microsoft also announced a host of features being added this month for education users. These include anonymous grading and marking for Assignments to avoid any kind of student bias and the ability to view assignments across all classes in the Assignments section. There is one new feature for first-line workers too. IT admins can now configure Teams to alert users when they try to access the tool outside of working hours, helping employees adhere to regulations.

The company has also posted the features and enhancements being made for Government and Healthcare customers, which you can read in the blog post here. There are updates for developers and the platform itself, including a new Power Automate app for Teams, the ability for companies to brand their line-of-business apps in the tool, and a new publisher verification service for developers to verify their apps with IT admins. The company also noted the availability of the new native Teams app for ARM64 devices such as the Surface Pro X.

Rounding it off is a new section called Teams App Spotlight this month where the company highlights third-party apps for the platforms. The debutant this month is an app called Clio, which you can check out here.

You can earn these Destiny 2: Trials of Osiris rewards from October 30 to November 3
      by Asher Madan

Every week, Destiny 2 hosts a Trials of Osiris event where teams of three compete for access to The Lighthouse. The Lighthouse promises Pinnacle rewards that boost you closer to the current Power Level cap.

The player vs. player competition also grants other items if you get three, five, or seven wins. However, you'll have to get seven wins in a row, without a loss, if you want to grab the Pinnacle gear from The Lighthouse. You can take a look at the Trials of Osiris rewards from October 30 to November 3 below.

Three wins: Tomorrow's Answer legendary rocket launcher Five wins: Chest of the Exile legendary armor Seven wins: Eye of Sol legendary sniper rifle Flawless: Hands of the Exile legendary armor Trials of Osiris starts at 1 PM EDT on Friday and lasts until 1 PM EDT on Tuesday. You can use the Passage of Mercy from Saint-14 because it forgives one loss if you're aiming for Flawless. If you manage to get seven wins in a row, you'll have to manually select The Lighthouse location displayed in the Crucible menu to obtain the Pinnacle reward. This involves jumping across a few platforms and opening the chest where Saint-14 and Osiris are standing.

Microsoft announces live-stream event for Xbox Series X|S launch
      by Rich Woods

Today, Microsoft announced that it's going to be holding a live-stream event on November 10, the day that its next-generation Xbox consoles launch. Obviously, the event is to celebrate the launch of the Xbox Series X and the Xbox Series S.

The company says that this event is meant to be a companion for your already-existing gaming plans that day. There are going to be "Let's Play" segments, and you'll be invited to play alongside of the content creators on the stream. Microsoft refers to it as grabbing your "device of choice", a nod to how you don't need an Xbox to play Xbox games anymore, as we can stream them to an array of Android devices.

"To honor the launch of the new Xbox generation, we invite you to celebrate this power of play with us," said Xbox chief Phil Spencer in a blog post. "On November 10, we invite you, players of all identities and backgrounds, console generations and devices, skill sets and tastes, to celebrate, connect, and play together. We invite you to grab your device of choice and play alongside Team Xbox, your favorite creators, and our partners, right from your homes around the world. We invite you to take a glimpse behind-the-scenes of the next generation of games, hear the stories of people who make them, and play along with them."

The event will be at 2pm Eastern Time on November 10, and you'll be able to watch on YouTube, Twitch, and Facebook Gaming.

Flight Simulator Patch 1.10.7.0 brings a bunch of fixes and some known issues
      by Abhay Venkatesh

Microsoft has released the fifth Flight Simulator patch to all users with a bunch of fixes and improvements. There are also some known issues to be aware of, such as problems with VNAV mode in the autopilot that leads to overshooting the climb speed, issues with Live weather, and more. However, the list of fixes in this patch version 1.10.7.0 is extensive and brings improvements to planes, the UI, the installation manager, the Marketplace, and more.

As for the UI fixes, the firm has finally removed the ‘press any key to start’ screen, a highly requested change that was supposed to make it in the fourth patch. The firm has also added the ability to switch between metric and U.S. standard units, and more. There are improvements to the autopilot performance for a bunch of planes, and many other visual enhancements including motion blur, improved night light and reflections, and much more.

Here is the complete list of the fixes:

However, users must also take note of the known issues that persist in the simulator, including a problem with the glide slope in Cessna Citation Longitude, and more. Here are all the known issues:

Interestingly, though the company claimed that the decision to delay the patch was to fix some autopilot issues, many responses on Twitter to the patch release announcement suggest that there are still problems with both the autopilot and the AI co-pilot feature. The team also acknowledged that it was investigating crash issues and that it will be providing an update about a resolution today.
