Yes, Jonathan Frakes is directing again (he directed an episode last season also) and Sirtis is going to be a guest star on the show before the show's break in Feb I think.

I'm about to watch the new episode, but if the internet is any indication - I'm gonna love it :D

Also here's a nice little story: Scott Grimes and Adrianne Palicki (Ed's ex wife btw) are now engaged! Congrats you two :)

EOnline has the scoop!

Yeah I saw the ratings weren't great. I'd like to think that because its Seth "Family Guy" Dude - the show might get extra time where as some other shows might not get.

Also, yeah the episode was great. The show is really hitting its stride now I think.

Lethal Weapon & The Gifted are performing worse for Fox plus Gotham will be ending. They might not want another empty slot for filling and yes theirs also the long standing partnership with MacFarlane

Lethal Weapon went in the crapper since they get rid of Riggs.  Not Lethal Weapon without him.  I heard the story why he was kicked off the show, but it was the shows downfall.

Anyway, watching the Orville now.  Very Trek like episode.

That was dumb... Why where they so adamant in keeping people they viewed as scum on their planet.. just send 'em back where they came from. Also what does the star returning change? All those people were born when the star wasn't there so they would still bad according to their beliefs. Just an all around dumb episode IMO.

If you're referring to not simply letting Kelly and Bortus leave it would come under one law no exception - a fanatical response. What's not clear is how the public didn't know or weren't told enough about reproduction that they didn't avoid a  specific date range therefore avoiding the "bad month".

I liked the concept of the episode but the entire execution was wrong. They had minimal communication before heading to the planet, all of the senior officers except Jon went for a visit, Claire should have reported the oddity from the hospital to Ed.

The new security officer is no Alara

It's surprising how we've had two action packed episodes back to back when season 1 didn't have so much.   As far as episode 5, well, if you're looking for everything to make sense in some way then you're not going to get it.  You can poke holes in the story but overall it was a pretty good episode.  Still, you'd think they'd read up on things before you go down to the planet, the politics, laws etc.  They went in blind, but then if they had we wouldn't had gotten the episode to begin with.

I like Star Treks prime directive better, if they're not able to fly at warp speeds leave them alone.   This bit about answering if someone sends out a message can backfire, and doesn't mean they're ready to step out into the galaxy.

Yeah I thought of that also about their version of a prime directive. But in the end we've barely touched on it with the show so far, so my hope is they flesh it out somewhat in future episodes (depending on how much of a future the show has mind you) to the point where its explained away more than it has been.

Personally, i understood the story just fine.  In fact, I'm not sure why people are having problems with it. Seems pretty obvious to me that, in an overly superstitious society, something that used to be an ill-omen suddenly turning good WOULD absolutely upset everything they knew before...

The star vanishing a few thousand years before made them believe anyone born in that sign was ill-omened.  The star returning would certainly reverse that belief and probably even push those people into the best astrological sign of them all, due to the miraculous nature of the star's return.

The star coming back made sense as well, the issue some seem to have is how unprepared the team was when they went down.  Why not ask what the laws are and other important information BEFORE you travel to the planet?   I mean it's nitpicking, basically, so I don't really mind it.  It is what it is, some stuff has to be ignored so you can have the episode setup you end up with.

It's really no different to TNG when they did it. Remember the one where Wesley fell into a flower bush and was sentenced to death?  At the end of the day, you're never going to learn all the little nuances of someone else's culture and laws when you're meeting them for the first time.

Speaking of complete messes! Guess that episode was before the prime directive was invented as I don't think the planet of the running people had warp drive! Though I do think a line was inserted where Yar had reviewed legal codes.

And that all of the senior bridge staff went for the hello visit. If it had hit the fan harder and all of them imprisoned they would have been saved by John & Gordon while Isaac questioned everything they did

This isn’t Star Trek. Why would you expect it to be governed by the same rules?

Where the hell do you think the prime directive came from? The Star Trek-verse.

Step back and realise I was replying to the post from FloatingFatMan regarding a similarity with a ST:TNG episode. Did I say they were utilising Star Trek's prime directive on The Orville? No I did not

    • Password Safe 3.72.0 by Razvan Serea Password Safe is a password database utility. Like many other such products, commercial and otherwise, it stores your passwords in an encrypted file, allowing you to remember only one password (the "safe combination"), instead of all the username/password combinations that you use. Once stored, your user names and passwords are just a few clicks away. Using Password Safe you can organize your passwords using your own customizable references—for example, by user ID, category, web site, or location. You can choose to store all your passwords in a single encrypted master password list (an encrypted password database), or use multiple databases to further organize your passwords (work and home, for example). And with its intuitive interface you will be up and running in minutes. PasswordSafe was originally designed by the renowned security technologist Bruce Schneier and released as a free utility application. Password Safe 3.72.0 changelog: Fixed bugs Improved font scale handling - should resolve font size issues on high resolution displays. GH1749 In the Master Password Setup window, "Show Master Password" is no longer truncated on some displays. GH1092, SF1595 Size and position of main window is now correctly restored on scaled displays. SF1630 Keep password expiry date when both password and password expiry are changed; don't clear a non-recurring expiry when the password's changed. SF1628 Custom values can now be copied to the clipboard in read-only mode via Ctrl-C and right-click->Copy Value. New features GH1196 Dark display mode support: Password Safe now supports the system display mode, as well as setting the mode directly via Manage->Options->Display->Display Mode. This change also updates the general "look & feel" of the app to the current Windows theme. Known limitations: The Date picker and keyboard shortcut controls do not switch to dark theme The Customize Toolbar dialog does not switch to dark theme Custom Field support has been added to the more advanced features: Filters XML and Text import and export Comparison, Sync and Merge databases SF938 Custom field values may now be selected by name and copied via a "Copy Custom Field Value..." submenu in the entry context popup menu. SF936 Notes and Custom fields layout now overlap, selectable by tabs, resulting in a more compact and less cluttered layout. • I've got a SoundBlasterX G6 that I use in my streaming setup. Sounds great to me and I've had zero issues with the ancient software package so far in Win11. That G6 has 7.1, Dolby, fully working SPDIF and since it's a USB device it's outside of my rig so I don't have to worry about EMF distortion. Looks like for now this is a pass for me as I think I have better hardware....
