Try Slackware 10.0.  You will be pleased.

exactly, not only doesn't it have apt-get, it has no package manager at all!

Any idea what is left out/crippled in the Ximian Desktop Evaluation version, if anything?
considering its available for free download, I'd be very suprised if something was missing.
dont be so sad about it. im thinking of getting rid of it and going back to MEPIS. its slower, and it dosent have apt-get, a giant negative. althought it dose look awesome, there really isnt much there to be jealous of.

Have you tried adding the Open Carpet repos to Red Carpet?

Funny, I must have been hallucinating when I was using 'installpkg', 'upgradepkg' and 'removepkg' a few days ago.

Oh, you probably meant a cobbled mess like RPM. No thank you. I've seen RPM render a system useless far too many times.

I was referring to slackware (though plain rpm's aren't any better) and yes, the sarcasm detector was off the charts. A package manager should actually manage packages (dependancy resolution, conflict resolution, search).

btw, sry for taking this post offtopic, but TGZ is definitely no solution to RPM.
