I don't own a gun, I never will own a gun.

Since I don't break laws then I don't need one.

Ever heard of protection? If someone breaks into your home at night while you are sleeping and they have a gun, you're going to want one then ;)

I have never heard of anybody in Toronto having their home broken into by a gun-wielding thug. I'm sure it happens. I hear about home invasions rarely on the news but it has never happened in my neighbourhood or to anybody that I know.

If this is a regular occurance where you live then I suggest you move.

I think I have about an equal chance to win the lottery but you don't see my empying out my savings on the hope that I'll eventually win the big one.

in SC you are allowed to use equal and opposite force against someone breaking in. That means, if they have a gun, you can legally shoot their brains out. They must be in your house though. So don't shoot if they are climbing out the window.....or just drag their dead ass back inside. :hmmm:

When someone breaks into your house... and you shoot at them... just make sure that you kill them... so they don't turn around and sue you for injuring them with excessive force... sounds morbid... but... Hey! They shouldn't be in your house without your permission in the first place...

But if someone owns a handgun then the only use it can have is to kill someone. And by buying a handgun you're pretty much saying that if I feel threatened I am willing to kill someone.

People who say they use it for self defense...surely that means that if someone draws a knife on you, and then you draw a gun, and you shoot the guy, then it'll probably be you who ends up in prison. And if someone draws a gun on you and you draw yours, then you'd be dead.

You're right - the main purpose of a handgun is to shoot things. I don't think anyone would argue over that shrewd analyzation. I believe buying a gun goes back to many people's root instinct for survival. My life is always going to be more important to me than yours.

In response to your next paragraph, my lifestyle has always been that, if I feel my life is being threatened, I'm going to do what it takes to defend my life and fight the justice system later. I don't care if someone breaking into my house with a gun, if I'm being help up with a gun / knife, or wherever: I'm going to take that person out if it means my life over his. Keep in mind I'm not saying I'd shoot an unarmed person. I would have to see some kind of weapon that could end my life before the decision comes to take another's life.

There's also an unlimited number of 'what if' scenarios to argue over, so I'm not going to bother.

I've had knives pulled on me on several occasions including a knife being held to my throat and waved in front of my face.

Still, I'm not about to go to a night club or a pizza parlour wearing a gun.  If I did, I'd probably be dead or in jail by now.  I never even carried a knife.

In the state where I live, you can even have a concealed weapons permit and you still aren't allowed to carry one into an alcohol serving establishment. I'm sure they do that for just that reason - stupid drunks.

I don't own one. I have no need for a gun. (Also I'm in UK where its illegal)

585362932

It's not illegal to own guns in the UK.

You have to have a licence, guns are not illegal here if you have the documentation.

...

I'm ok with people having rifles on display or soemthing to use for clay pidgeon shooting, I can imagine that to be quite fun.

...

585362837

rifles arent the only things that you can shoot for sport. pistols can be used for target shooting and shotguns can be used for skeet and sporting clays...and just in case there's somebody who doesnt think that those are "real sports", there are olympic shooters. they're the people that can hit like 99 out of 100 targets....if not all 100...it's just crazy. last time i shot sporting clays, i only got like 30 something out of 100. lol...in my defense, that was something like 2 years ago or so...still, i hope i get better sometime, lol

It's not that I've never had my life threatened.  When I was single I used to go clubbing to nightclubs three or four times a week so hanging out at a downtown pizza parlour at 3am was not out of the question.

Now it might be because I'm loud, I'm obnoxious or that I was drunk but I did run into my fair share of trouble.  It never seemed to happen to any of my friends.

good point...i've never really had my life threatened..well, there has been the occaisional really ****ed off person my age (teenager) who said "i'll have you killed" or "i want to kill you" or something like that, but that isn't really serious. i mean, it wasnt pleasant, but it didnt stop me from sleeping or anything like that because i know that it is very unlikely that that will really result in anything.

like i said earlier, though, my dad has had his life seriously threatened. in fact, our whole family has been threatened by people who hate my dad. i dont feel like going into specifics about why (dont worry, my dad isn't some famous person or anything. you wouldn't know him) but we've had people come up our driveway and stay a little ways away from our house and just sit there in there cars for hours in the middle of the night, we've had our property damaged, we've gone through a lot of mail boxes (thanks to firecrackers, etc), we got a P.O. box (for repeatedly stolen mail), my dad even got a new car because the car that he was driving (which is now my car, coincidentally) was being written down on various lists and such (the kind of lists that you dont want to be on), we've had groups of people at the bottom of our driveway (luckily, we managed to call the cops ahead of time and they were present and blockading the bottom of our driveway with 2 units), etc etc etc....

anyways, all that has died down....most of that stuff happened 5-10 years ago. since then, it's grown into more of a sport and enjoyment thing.

LOL I love the ignorance flying around. Yes, I own guns, quite a few as a matter of fact. My brother owns a ton, (mostly military type, he's an ex-marine) and my dad's got one of the nicest collections I've ever seen, (and yes, I'm in the will!!! w00t!) He doesn't collect guns just to 'up the post count', as it were. Rather, he collects guns that are special, for one reason or another. For example, the Colt .44 Magnum, (Dirty Harry's gun), an old 1911, (workhorse of military/police services around the world), an original (1930's) Belgian Browning 9mm, S&w .357 Magnum with a 6" barrel (MONSTER), etc. etc. His collection's worth a pretty penny.

I'll do you one better. In Mississippi, all that is required is for someone to have broken into your house, armed or not. The law here assumes that if someone has illegally entered your house then their intent is to do you harm and you are justified in protecting your family and property. The way the crime rate is around here, you'd most likely get a medal for ridding the city of some punk.

I own a 12-gauge shot gun which was my dad's, although I have no shells for it. I have shot it before along with an assortment of other guns just for target practice. I don't have it for protection against anyone or anything and I don't hunt.

Hehe... The only problem with that scenario is that their surviving relatives can sue you for wrongful death--even if you are acquited in a criminal trial.

Ain't US law great?

I'm a US concealed handgun license holder and my concealed firearm saved the life of my wife and myself and I didn't even have to fire a shot--the loser gave up after I drew.

Yeah, I know anti-gun people out there don't like guns on civilians (or law enforcement for you extremist anti-gun types) but I'm one person alive today because of my right to arm myself.

Also, my wife is European, and orignally hated guns--but today she agrees they have their place for personal protection.

If you don't like them, don't use them. Leave the rest of us responsible gun owners be.

Actually, that is not entirely true. It depends on the State's laws, not the Federal Laws.

Some states' laws state explicitly that anyone in your house w/o permission is an illegal intruder and you have the stated right to use deadly force. You cannot be sued easily in those states.

In those situations, your ass is grass only if you fire while they are running away.

yeah, the rifle i own was left to me when my grandfather passed away. it's a 308 lever action with a five round clip. whenever i take it hunting people marvel over it usually saying they've never seen anything like it (with both a lever and clip).

yes, justifiable homicide is upheld in texas. the most famous case was several years ago when a swede (last name of de vries) visiting texas started banging on some guys back door at 2am in the morning. the owner of the house, in fear for his life, fired through the door and killed the guy. the parents flew to texas during the trial and thought we were all cowboy barbarians but she didn't understand that our laws were different than theirs and our laws allow us to protect our lives as well as our property. it doesn't necessarily have to be inside the house.

I don't have a need to own a firearm.

I would however, like to own a 45. pistol.

I don't see why people need to own assault rifles, or machine pistols. I would like to own an MP5 BB gun, but know that I will most likely not.

I would also like to gain experience with the AK47, and the M16. Can't say why.

Here are some pictures of the guns I would like to own. (If I could)

A Smith and Wesson 500SAW revolver. The world's most powerful legal revolver.

An HK53 - The form of an MP5, only with rifle rounds.
