Dell 2405FPW UltraSharp Flat Panel Monitor

Behold, my new monitor :D

This new 2405FPW absolutely rocks. Not a single dead pixel that I've managed to find so far, and the blacks are pretty deep, deeper than the other LCD. Then again, this is a S-PVA panel, so deep blacks are not all that surprising.

The LCD to the right is an 18" Dell panel... looks pretty small next to the 2405FPW. Even my 22" Mitsu 2070SB CRT looks small next to the 2405FPW, moreso in person than in the pic.

Can't wait to hook up my digital TV box up to it and be able to use the picture-in-picture feature for watching TV.

I noticed that this is an A01 revision. Anyone know what differences there are between this and A00 that earlier buyers got?

The monitor just came today. I must say that any picture you see of this monitor is very deceiving. The monitor when you are see it in person its about 3x bigger than what it looks like in any photographic i've seen and or also taken of it.

but I must say farcry has never looked so good

battlefield 2 doesn't look that bad even though I know its stretching it

xvid's don't look half bad either

Okay I just received my Dell 2405FPW and my god this thing is a beast. It's huge and mine has no dead pixels and no apparent light bleeding!!!

At first I freaked out because I saw several black dots on the screen. I counted 8 of them, but I decide to put my finger on one of the dots and it came off. I looked at my finger and it was just spec of black particle. I'm not sure what you call them, but for simplicity's sake, I'll just call them particles ;). Anyway after touching all 8 of those areas very lightly, the specks came off and and I did another dead pixel test and voila, no dead pixels!!! I'll have to watch a DVD later to confirm any backlight bleeding, but my initial inspection is that there is very little to none when I looked at a black screen.

How about dust? How about stop talking about an issue which doesn't exist on the 2405FPW (eg backlight).

Getting a little peeved about the comments here. The 2405FPW is not the same panel and doesn't have the same problems.

Sorry, but I thought it would be interesting to write down. Anyway, I didn't know dust was black???

Curious how the black levels are on the 2405FPW when its displaying A LOT of black? (Doom 3 / Thief / Splinter Cell / Riddick etc.) , I recently returned a 2001FP due to horrendous black levels, the black levels looked fine on web pages / windowed command prompt etc. but fullscreen gaming & movies had bright / washed out blacks ,I think having my CRT sitting next to it (Clone mode) made it even more apparent. It was my first LCD purchase and although it overall looked great with web pages & text everything else looked better on the CRT (Photos / Games / Movies) My CRT is a higher end model that I paid $620 for last year on newegg.com (retail was $799), maybe Im expecting to much from LCD perhaps? The thought of having a 24" Widescreen display is tempting still ...

    • Media Player Classic - Home Cinema 2.7.2 by Razvan Serea Media Player Classic - Home Cinema (MPC-HC) is a free and open-source video and audio player for Windows. MPC-HC is based on the original Guliverkli project (which is no longer maintained) and contains many additional features and bug fixes. As the continuation of the original Media Player Classic, MPC-HC isn’t flashy but it works with nearly any media format. MPC-HC uses DXVA technology to pass decoding operations to your modern video card, enhancing your viewing experience. And MPC-HC supports both physical and software DVDs with menus, chapter navigation, and subtitles. Overview of features A lot of people seem to be unaware of some of the awesome features that have been added to MPC-HC in the past years. Here is a list of useful options and features that everyone should know about: Dark interface Menu > View > Dark Theme When using dark theme it is also possible to change the height of the seekbar and size of the toolbar buttons. Options > Advanced Video preview on the seekbar Options > Tweaks > Show preview on seek bar Adjust playback speed Menu > Play > Playback rate The buttons in the player that control playback rate take a 2x step by default. This can be customized to smaller values (like 10%): Options > Playback > Speed step Adjusting playback speed works best with the internal audio renderer. This also has automatic pitch correction. Options > Playback > Output > Audio Renderer MPC-HC can remember playback position, so you can resume from that point later Options > Player > History You can quickly seek through a video with Ctrl + Mouse Scrollwheel. You can jump to next/previous file in a folder by pressing PageUp/PageDown. You can perform automatic actions at end of file. For example to go to next file or close player. Options > Playback > After Playback (permanent setting) Menu > Play > After Playback (for current file only) A-B repeat - You can loop a segment of a video. Press [ and ] to set start and stop markers. You can rotate/flip/mirror/stretch/zoom the video Menu > View > Pan&Scan This is also easily done with hotkeys (see below). There are lots of keyboard hotkeys and mouse actions to control the player. They can be customized as well. Options > Player > Keys Tip: there is a search box above the table. You can stream videos directly from Youtube and many other video websites You can stream videos directly from Youtube and many other video websites Put yt-dlp.exe or youtube-dl.exe in the MPC-HC installation folder. Then you can open website URLs in the player: Menu > File > Open File/URL You can even download those videos: Menu > File > Save a copy Tip: to be able to download in best quality with yt-dlp/youtube-dl, it is recommended to also put ffmpeg.exe in the MPC-HC folder. Several YDL configuration options are found here: Options > Advanced This includes an option to specify the location of the .exe in case you don't want to put it in MPC-HC folder. Play HDR video This requires using madVR or MPC Video Renderer. After installation these renderers can be selected here: Options > Playback > Output Ability to search for and download subtitles, either automatically or manually (press D): Options > Subtitles > Misc Besides all these (new) features, there have also been many bugfixes and internal improvements in the player in the past years that give better performance and stability. It also has updated internal codecs. Support was added for CUE sheets, WebVTT subtitles, etc. Media Player Classic - Home Cinema 2.7.2 changelog: Updated LAV Filters to version 0.81-23-g6fadb Updated MPC Video Renderer to version 0.10.2.2540 Updated MediaInfo DLL to version 26.05 Updated MPC Audio Renderer Several crash fixes, bug fixes and small improvements. • No problems here using the new Outlook. In our company we started to default installing to users on new computers or when we're reimaging. But, if the user needs/ask for the classic one, we install it. Low reject rate at this point.
    • Yeah it's my only home/business computer. The Surface Pen magnetic Storage is on the left side, but it doesn't charge the Pen. I do the charging once every 6+ months by interchanging between 2 rechargeable AAAA batteries and charging the other via a USB A battery charger.
