it just seems like the genre is being obscured these days by newer emo and metalcore bands.  people who don't really know how bands are categorized tend to quickly mislabel bands.  i've heard someone call the agony scene death metal when - IMO - they tend to be more punk than anything except for the vocal style.

You are very correct! There is a lot of that going around!

Still if you want good Old School Death by a newer band

I suggest looking at Bloodbath!

It's comprised of artists from different bands!

The first CD featured the vocals of Mikael ?kerfelt from Opeth!

The second CD featured the vocals of Peter T?gtgren from Hypocrisy!

And I promise you that Exmortem is Death as well!

Two of my favourite metal bands are Opeth and Dark Tranquillity. I don't listen to much metal, but I do have a nice collection of metal bands on my computer. I'm normally into the progressive sub-genre of metal. Anything in the range of Opeth and Symphony X really gets me going haha.

Dark Tranquillity is a pretty good band. They're not my favorite, but whenever they put an album out I try to give at least a few tracks an honest listen.

And there is still plenty of good death metal out there, you just have to look. It also depends on what you're looking for. Are you a melo-death fan looking for an At the Gates type sound, or are you looking for more brutal, crushing death metal like Nile? Death metal is really an overused term used by your friend who doesn't listen to metal whenever you tell him about a band he's never heard of. There is so much under that one sub-genre that it can be a bit much I find.

Serenity in Fire and Shadows & Dust are good albums. I find their early stuff to be awful.

I might hit up one of those shows. I don't much care for Trivium though.

You don't know Amon Amarth? Heretic!:wacko:o:

:woot:  Woah, sweet. Explain all those pedals.

from left to right:

boss TU-2 chromatic tuner (white)

danelectro coolcat (chorus) (dunno)

boss DD-6 digital delay (white)

ibanez tube screamer (light green)

boss DS-1 distortion (orange)

boss MT-2 metal zone (black)

boss PH-3 phase shifter (green)

dunlop 535Q wah

digitech whammy (very nice!)

only the amp is new, the pedals i've had for a while.

the head of the amp lists for $1499 and guitar center lists it for $1199 and their competitor sam ash lists at nearly the same price. i initially wanted to buy the 2x12 combo but the one store that carries this model amp only had the head and they were selling it for (they two heads in stock) $839 and $819. the second was cheaper cuz the guy said out of the box it had some scratches and dents but i've yet to find them. i bought the cabinet and all together it totaled right at about what the combo would have cost. sweet deal! i'm stoked!

    • This makes me think of Dune for some reason.
    • I'm too old to return to the "good old days" when I was installing custom ROMs and tinkering with my devices - now I just want to turn it on and use it. I've read that banking and payment apps work on Murena /e/OS (I'll have to check the ones I use) and I also really want to support Fairphone 😉
