neobond and his admin stick :p

ive never had any plugins for firefox or whatever so... meh :p

You use Firefox and don't use plug-ins? :o That's crazy talk.

^ Works in the military, should work here too.

No it doesn't really work, it's just brushing it under the rug so everything looks okay.

i'm confused, are we allowed to discuss adblocking software on neowin or not?

In a word - no.

no, you aint allowed to do so... thats really hard, because it shrinks you in your personality in some aspects, but this board is public, so we have to keep rules, if not, everything would go nuts. imo this is not a good decision, but i will respect it...

At the end of the day we cannot be hypocritical. We can't show how to whitelist Neowin adverts as that is then excluding our affiliates. If it were not for advertising then Neowin would not exist, and neither would a large majority of websites that you visit and enjoy every day. We understand that advertising revenue is critical for so many websites to be able to stay alive that we have banned discussion of the topic entirely.

If you think that's not a good decision, then really you need to look at why Adverts exist in the first place.

I did not want to critisize the way, advertisments are used, especially here on neowin. I think that the way, in which they are shown here, is tolerable and not to much for the eye of a normal user. But there is still a bad taste left about the fact that it is not allowed to discuss the whole topic, because it does shrink, in some way, the freedem of the users. Of course, most people do not think about this and it does not affect them at all too, so this discussion about the pros and cons is not necessary. I did not wanted to critisize the way, in which the admins do their work, because i respect most of them for their work they do, so i am happy with the status quo!

Also, not allowed to post screen shots showing you have ads blocked even if the post has nothing to do with ad blocking.

Yes that annoys me because you know, everyone is going to look at screenshots of a browser layout or something and go OMG BLOCKED ADS!!11/sarcasm

Your forgetting a keyword... blocking NEOWIN ads. Blocking ads is up to you... but its not a bright idea to post a screenshot of your Neowin account showing you have blocked ads.

There is also a problem with the screenshot theory. If the ads don't show up you ASSUME adblocking is being done, but that is not necessarily the case. At least not intentionally. If you disable javascript NO ads show up. I think that is a flaw on the part of the site's design. I know most allow javascript but some (for security reasons) don't. And it has been a security issue here before. So, I don't find it unfair to be worried about javascript being allowed here. Maybe that should be fixed? Then you can assume adblocking is taking place if ads are not displayed in screenshots. JMHO

There was going to be an ad free sub package. So yes, it has everything to do with blocking ads.

I still think they should do it too. I'd bet that the people who subscribe would end up paying more than they would make neowin through ad clicks so it's a win win in my eyes.

Exactly. I personally have never once clicked on an ad on Neowin.

Read this one and you will see it does happen.

I'm still amazed at some of the people here who probably expect us to pay out of our own pockets for your community? We provide the service thats true but the current model is that the ads pay for that service, if everyone starts blocking them we will simply have to go offline because its too expensive to pay for 4 dedicated servers and the immense ammount of bandwidth per month (1 terrabyte average).

This maintenance-focused release includes bug fixes, updated translations, and a range of safe enhancements. This release fixes a Windows security issue that could allow arbitrary file deletion during privileged cleaning (reported by Zeze with TeamT5). It also adds new cleaners (including a DNS cache cleaner, Claude Code, and Visual Studio Code forks), support for multiple Chrome and Edge profiles, new deep scan options for developer directories like node_modules and venv, and safer, faster file shredding. All Platforms Added cleaners for Claude Code, DNS cache, and many Visual Studio Code forks. Added support for multiple Chrome and Edge profiles. Chrome can now clean downloaded AI models. Deep Scan can optionally remove venv, __pycache__, node_modules, and .angular directories. Deep Scan is faster by skipping directories on the keep list. File shredding is safer, faster, and leaves fewer recoverable traces. Improved handling of cookies, symlinks, Unicode filenames, external processes, and configuration files. Improved Expert Mode warnings and long warning dialogs. Fixed crashes related to cleaner detection, invalid Unicode, and malformed cleaner data. Clipboard is now cleared automatically after shredding files via paste operations. Linux Added AppImage support. Fixed startup crashes when Python Requests is unavailable. Windows Fixed a security vulnerability that could allow arbitrary file deletion when cleaning with elevated privileges. Added %WindowsSystem% variable support. Improved clipboard clearing using native Windows APIs. Improved installer experience on unsupported Windows versions. Reduced installer size and improved application robustness. Fixed Unicode handling, filename anonymization, Git revision reporting, and splash screen stability. • DriversCloud 12.1.6 by Razvan Serea With DriversCloud (formerly My-Config.com), you can explore your computer easily, safely and free. The application quickly scans your PC and identifies the hardware and software components. DriversCloud then establishes a list of the different drivers compatible with your OS and hardware. Download the drivers needed for the proper functioning of your computer. To detect your drivers, DriversCloud also displays a detailed summary of your hardware and software configuration, analyzes your BSOD, monitors in real-time your PC voltages and temperatures and lets you share your configuration online. Once the hardware components have been detected, you will be able to obtain with just a few clicks the latest drivers corresponding to the identified hardware. You can record your configuration on the site for free, and can get the corresponding URL to post the configuration to technical forums, e-mail and social networks. You can also download the detection result (the configuration) as a PDF file. To protect the user's privacy and data confidentiality, a 4-level confidentiality system was created that filters the XML marks and gives control to the user. The default level can be modified in the preferences. Using the maximum level will prevent the user from publishing his configuration and generating a corresponding PDF file. In non-connected mode, each XML configuration is stored on the server for one day (for practical reasons). However, you are given the opportunity to manually delete it. Created in 2004, and continually improved, My-Config.com has established itself on the web as a free service to PC users running Windows and Linux operating systems. The service is designed to work with the most common Internet browsers (Edge, Firefox, Chrome, Safari).
