I get "Internet Explorer could not be installed. Please take a look at the logs in your system directory."

(my xp is activated/validated)

Do a sytem resore, before you try to download againg. One restore is done, goto microsoft genuine advantage and validate windows. Close IE and then download IE7. Worked for me.

The problem with Live Mail is really getting annoying... I too would like them to fix the site, it's kind of stupid to have a MS browser (even though it's in beta), to not work with a MS website (also in beta). They're being developed at the same time, I would think they would make sure they work.

What doesn't work? I've been usin Live Mail for awhile now, and all 3 versions of IE 7 that I've used, have worked with it, for me. Unless there's somethin missing I aint seeing, lol.

I'm sticking with my Deer Park nightly for now. IE still feels too cluttered, gimmicky and chunky. Until I can customise it to look like that below, I aint using it! I'm open though, and will keep testing builds as they come to see if it improves.

Here are some general screens for people to see (fairly large images):

1 tab: Click Here

Multiple tabs: Click Here

Quick Tabs: Click Here

Favourites: Click Here

With Live Mail Beta: Click Here

Just a couple for people's general interest...

what theme are u using or is it Vista?

Seems to run good on some and bad on others (a trademark of beta software). On one machine I installed it on (identical to another it ran fine on) it uses lots of processor when clicking links and loading the new pages. Even on neowin forum, just going to the next page of posts takes 30 seconds or more.

The lack of advanced tab functions is a show stopper for me. The tabbedbrowser extentions for firefox beat it by miles.

Anyone else noticed that .url shortcuts no longer have an icon after installing this?

.. Or is it just me? :s

I have rebuild my icon cache btw.

Mine is like that too, even was with the last Beta 2 release. I have been fixin the icon manually, lol.

Well from what I've noticed, only newly installed programs seem to not show the IE shortcut icon.

I hope you guys are not installing this unstable beta on your main work or home machines. It replaces IE6 so you are SOL if you installed it on your main work machine and are having trouble.

lol!!! well it can be removed and Windows reverts back to IE 6, which in my opinion is the unstable browser.

I went back to IE6 on several machines with no problems.

no its not i wish people would stop asking. Its been said been reported before that you cant

Actually there is a way, and the method has been around for some time now. Below are the instructions (which were posted earlier in this thread, and easily found with a Google search) and a screen shot of it working.

* Extract IE7B2P-WindowsXP-x86-enu.exe to a temporary folder.

* Working within' the extracted directory, delete the following:

o update\

o install.ins

o spmsg.dll

o spuninst.exe

o spupdsvc.exe

* Create a blank text file within' the directory and rename it to iexplore.exe.local.

* Move the directory to a location in which you want to store the now standalone version of Internet Explorer 7 Preview (eg. X\IE7 BETA2).

* Execute iexplore.exe.

    • If you don't care to read what I said, then you prove my point. Maybe written media is beyond your attention span. Titles are not summaries my friend.
    • Nobody asked... in fact, I said "I don't care about political leanings"
    • TLDR. Here is a far better title (just a basic example): Windows 11 26H2 to allow disabling Web search results
    • Restore will get my vote, only if to see if things are any different, doubt it though but Labour and Conservatives too out of touch and same thing over and over and over…, Lib Dem who?
    • There is nothing wrong with this title. You have completely missed the plot when it comes to "clickbait." The issue was never that a title tries to entice you to click, that is how titles have worked for over 100 years. The issue is when the title subverts expectations, getting you to click expecting something that isn't there. The classic clickbait example is "Boyfriend caught cheating, what happens next will shock you," then what happened next is the girlfriend was upset...which is probably the least shocking outcome imaginable. If sounds like what you want is for the titles to be a collection of 10-word summaries that you can skim, get the just of the story, and only click if you want more details. That is not, never has been, and never will be what titles are. You can go all the way back to print newspapers during the great depression and see the same thing. The newspaper was locked in a vending machine, all you can see is the headline, you choose to put in 5¢ to buy the paper and read the rest if you want. Those headlines were written in a way to sell the paper, not just to provide a summery. Here are two actual headlines from that time, "Wall Street Lays an Egg," or "Stocks Hit Bottom?" Maybe you'd say something like "it was wrong then and it's still wrong now." Okay, fine opinion to have, but it isn't like Neowin is doing something unjurnalistic, they are just following the age-old standards for written media.
