The Official NDS Homebrew Thread

Here's what a review I found has to say about the EZ-FlashIV (regular) and homebrew:

As far as homebrew goes, the news isn’t quite so good. I tested a small selection of homebrew, and applications with the “.ds.gba” extension (formatted for GBA flash carts) work just fine, but I was unable to get any “.nds” homebrew to run – this may because most of these files are designed for hardware similar to the GBAMP, and the EZ4 doesn’t seem to fall into that category. Of course, this could potentially be rectified with software updates in the future.

I seem to see a lot of people complaining that apps don't work on it on the homebrew forums I visit as well. Here's a link to the full review.

On a side note, does anyone know if MicroSD cards come with an adapter so they can fit in MiniSD and regular SD slots, like most MiniSD cards come with an adapter to fit in SD slots? I just bought the Supercard MiniSD and I was wondering if I should buy a MicroSD card for it so I can update to the M3 MicroSD when and if it comes out, without having to buy all new media again (I currently have a Supercard CF, but it's just too big for my Lite).

Edit: There does seem to be an adapter you can buy, but I can only find it on one UK site. If anyone sees it on a site that delivers to Canada, please let me know. I appreciate it :)

I usually get my flash media from Amazon...I am sure they ship to Canada...don't they?

Anyway, all their MicroSD cards come with the SD adapter I believe.

Thanks. Yeah, I think almost all MicroSD card come with the SD adapter. What I'm looking for is a MicroSD>MiniSD adapter.

Ok so the verdict is in on the Passcard3 vs. Superkey debate. Based on the information I'm getting, the only difference between the two is that when you turn on the DS, the Passkey3 shows a short Passkey3 splash screen before booting into the GBA flashcart, while the Superkey just boots right in with no splash screen.

I'll give you a first hand account of how the Superkey works once mine arrives in a couple of days (it's been shipped!! yay!!).

Edit: Oh, and for those of you that were interested in the EZ4 Lite, it's available now at Winsunx.

I'll also keep you updated here as much as I can. I must admit I'm way behind with posting homebrew releases here, but there didn't seem to be much interest until recently so I didn't bother updating the thread. MrShlee posted some really good links to specific homebrew as well. Once you have everything up and running, definitely check those out.

' date='Jun 16 2006, 01:47' post='587611007'] Actually, in another pic of the series ..

g6lite2.jpg

Well, i'm confused. Anyone releasing a microSD version that fits flush?

The G6 has always had integrated memory like that. The M3 is thier line with removable memory.

As far as MicroSD, the EZ4 Lite come the closest to flush as of now (it sticks out about 1mm, nothing really).

My Supercard SD and 2 gig SD card arrived today.

Put it all in and got a little worried when nothing would show up on the DS, wasn't recognising the files on the card infact nothing seemed to be working. Then I realised that I had my Mario Kart DS card in and not my Datel Max Media and everything was sorted :)

All in all spent about ?75 on getting the Launcher, Supercard and 2 gig SD:DD

Will be checking in on this thread a lot to see new homebrew stuff that comes along

The Neoflash team is about to start production on thier Neo2 Lite. It has 1GB internal memory and a clear plactic case. They are also working on a MicroSD version that loads the MicroSD from the front, not like from the side like the EZ4 Lite. Here's a pic of the Neo2 Lite 1GB and a concept shot of the MicroSD version. No word on pricing and release date as of yet.

Some of you may be confused as to what to get with all these carts coming out. I'm just trying to keep you up to date as to what's out there, so you can make the choice yourself. My advice? Wait for the M3 and Supercard Micro SD versions to come out. It shouldn't be too long now as with these other companies coming out with theirs, M3 and SC will want to get thiers out ASAP so they don't lose sales to the other guys.

' date='Jun 16 2006, 19:43' post='587613473'] What do you guys think is the best passcard type thing out there?

i'm thinking of the Superkey, but if this Max Media is any cheaper, I may as well get that.

The thing with the MML is that it doesn't support sleep mode, so when you close the lid with it on, the screen will flicker on and off. Passcard3 and Superkey both support sleep mode. The only difference is the Passcard3 has a splash screen and the Superkey doesn't. Verdict? Go for the Superkey.

Just a side note for those of you that were thinking of going with the EZ4 Lite. The first shipment is out and word is that Passcard3, MML, and Superkey don't work with it. So if you get it you will have to go with the old, tedious Passkey2 or Superpass2.

Someone posted this over at GBAtemp.net. I don't know if it's true or not, but if it is, we should me seeing an M3 Lite very soon!! (within a month apparently from another source) :D

by the way, M3 announced by e-mail, responding to a customer, that a version dedicated for the DS lite (cartridge not going out of the GBA slot) will be available soon, they are actually melting the plastic to make the moult, the electronic device is completed !

so maybe if we wait this release the competition will make the prices go down a little smile.gif

awesome news! keep us udpdated! The more competition the better.

:D The G6 Lite 4G is now available in China, which means an English release will be very soon. It's retailing for the equivalent of about $62USD, considerably cheaper than the last gen. Hopefully it will be close to that price when released here. I have to admit I'm very tempted by this, but I think I'll wait for the M3 Lite :p
