Is there a browse feature similar to iTunes that lists all the artists and/or albumbs/genres in an easy-to-read/scroll method without displaying the album art?

You can get rid of the album art by selecting 'Details'; that's about as good as it gets I think. :|

how would i go about installing this on Server 2003?

why does microsoft block it's own products??? (serv. 2003 and XP x64)

System requirements show it's only for the following OS:

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (SP2), Windows XP Professional SP2, Windows XP Tablet PC Edition SP2, or Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 Update Rollup 2

According to the release notes,

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsme.../11/readme.aspx

Compatibility issues with Internet Explorer 7

In some cases, you might encounter problems or unexpected behavior if you install both the beta release of Windows Media Player 11 and the beta release of Internet Explorer 7 on your computer. When using the beta release of Windows Media Player 11, we recommend that you use Internet Explorer 6 for Windows XP SP2.

Has anyone used WMP11 with IE7 beta2, if so any problems?

No problems here.

IE7 version is 7.0.5346.5

WMP version is 11.0.5358.4827

System requirements show it's only for the following OS:

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (SP2), Windows XP Professional SP2, Windows XP Tablet PC Edition SP2, or Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 Update Rollup 2

same reqs for WMP10 when it was released... but hey! it was installed on 2003... and guess what? 2003 SP1 came with WMP10... so yeh... spare me the "it won't work"... cause it WILL. it's just Microsoft being an arse and blocking corporate users just for the sake of it.

Actually, Menge, it fails to install it unlike WMP10, so your wrong about your assumption.

it fails with the original files... but there are ways you can force wmp10 to install on 2003... i'm asking what is needed to make this version install on server 2003.

i wasn't assuming anything. i DID install wmp10 on 2003...

It DOES install and run fine on windows server 2003, all you have to do is find a guide for installing the IE7 betas (from the time when there was only a version for XP). Look for a guide that has to do with editing update.inf and copying/overwriting it, and apply it twice for the wmp11 package and the wmf11redist package (or whatever its name is).

Yes, it does require modifications to WMP files for it to install, but it still doesn't install natively on x64, which is what most people want. No one wants to modify it and possibly screw up their system.

^-- Co-sign from my side. This is the "Windows Media Player for Windows XP SP2" beta. That's where due diligence was given. WMP's installer installs to where it was tested and given coverage against. Microsoft also does not want it to install to systems where it might possibly screw up your system. They'll figure out what the right thing to do is and make it happen. :)

@smigit: It is a skin, actually. It's compiled into wmploc.dll, though, so I think you're mostly out of luck at this point. Josh and I have talked about what we can do here, but there's a lot of stuff to do, so ..... consider the general "please allow a reskin" request duly noted. :)

@ ver change: Yeah, they were very important changes. You don't arbitrarily create new builds late in the beta cycle. Hopefully you never notice the glitches/problems, but... there was a new build for good reasons.

what i dont like about WMP11.. is it takes every single song and files it all into the same album, even if there are duplicate tracks.

Example:

i have a single song folder, called FolderA, and a folder with full cd's inside, called FolderB.

both folders are merged together to make an album, and you normally see

1. Track one

1. Track one

2. Track two

3. Track three

4. Track four

4. Track four

i wish i could get rid of the duplicates without deleting them off my hdd

hmm..

i like the dark blue and black color scheme that comes up when i first start it. but unfortunately the media library is, quite simply, a pain in the ass. its WAY too picky about the tags. if theres even one little bit of information that doesnt match on one track in a whole set of tracks from a cd itll split it up into about 3 or more albums with the same name. even if the part that doesnt match is pretty unimportant to organizing it by album in any way. on a more positive note the album art feature is nice.

i also notice slightly higher cpu usage than winamp. even without the visualizastion on...

I know this won't be an elegant solution, but for singles why not change the Album to something like "Singles". Technically, that would be more correct since its not part of the album. However, I do understand wanting the tag to point to the original album it came from. Or you could put the album name then write single after that.

Just for media player 11 addicts :

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsme...alizations.aspx

Go there and download the Energy Bliss visualization. It's nice with the album art showing up on this animated background. Works well with media player 11

Tips :

If you have wmv videos : keep previous or next pressed to have a fast-rewind or fast-forward on the video with sound on. It's like doing it on old tapes ...

EDIT : if your WMP11 installation freezes at XX% try to go on task manager/ processus and kill one time regserv.exe and let it go until the end. Someone has reported this workaround.

    • $80 or 90%, anything else would be financial suicide one way or another.
    • Or... just use Bitwarden. Free, and has on-prem option as well. Works both on desktop and mobile, wherever you are. The age of local password files is over.
    • Thanks
    • I actually got to use one of those so called "backup codes" once. It was for a customer, I choose the backup code option, and by the grace of god, they actually hade them printed out. Imagine my surprise, when after using the backup code, Google then told use we had to enter a code they just sent to the gmail address we currently did not have access to. I was not amused, Google backup codes should be the end all get out of jail free card, because you had to have access to the account to even get them.
    • On the topic of being locked out of a service. Recently two different friends of mine got locked out of their Google accounts. Both were hack attempts and one of them is waiting 30 days before he can get back in. He had backup codes and MFA but not a passkey. It was a browser token hack. Anyhow he has to wait 30 days for the dispute or whatever to end. The other person only had a password and is screwed losing all of the email, docs and years of photos. Google won’t help her at all. Her fault because she had no backup/recovery setup. Enable passkeys if possible. Also do NOT use browser based password managers. If using a cloud service make sure it is one you can fully sync to one of your devices so you can back it up. Like a PC or Mac with some backup drive plugged into it. Google is the worst to use IMHO. You can’t sync your photos at all. You have to use the “Take Out” service which is manual and takes days. That service strips the meta data from your photos. Also Google Docs synced to a device are useless without a Google accounts. MS Office/Libre Office is not going to open a link to a Google doc to a dead account.
