Neowin's Official World Cup 2006 Thread

It was a pretty good game, indeed. Shame Figo didn't start from the beginning since we all saw the difference he made when he stepped into the field. Having said that, it was a pretty open game with both teams attacking and Portugal controlling most of the ball (believe they had 58% of possession).

Congrats to Germany on two outstanding blasts and that good goal by Nuno Gomes as well.

Now its time for the final.

Accurate summation. It would of been fitting for Figo to have played his last international appearence from the start, he was a great player in his prime and he is still a good player now. I wish he had signed for Liverpool last summer, but in the end he chose the money that Inter offered.

I cant wait for the final. I want France to win just because of Zizou. Although I think it will be 0-0 and France will win on penalties...

I must agree. I am going for France just for Zidane, even though they beat Portugal. There are others that I'd also like to see winning the cup, which are the oldies: Makelele, Viera, etc.

just a 3rd place for the worlds best team :D

anyway it was most awesome game! i loved those goals by schweinstiger...such power! What disapoints me though is that germany couldnt do same for italy :(

Yeah, because Italy is stronger than Portugal and stronger than Germany... and stronger than France ;)

It's just sad that Kahn stepped back... :/

i think he still might play maybe in eurocup. by wc 2010 he will be definately too old

sometimes i wonder how much further germany could have progressed if kahn would have played from the begining

I feel bad for Christiano because whenever he gets tripped most people call it a dive, yes he has a history and does dive alot but not every single time, poor guy gets fouled and nothing ever gets called. But I think today was his best game.

Germany was outstanding especially GK Oliver Kahn, no way Portugal could beat them. (Y)

Are you kidding? He dives 20 times for everyone 1 time he is actually fouled. He is a disgrace to the game and should not be allowed to play for any professional team, let alone in the World Cup. I don't see how you can feel sorry for someone that is trying to cheat and manipulate the game. I won't keep going on about it because I've said everything I want to say about him - however, I object to people claiming he's just being "tripped" and everybody's jumping the gun... watch the replays - they PROVE that he is a honourless cheat.

NEway, I thought Lehmann was a much better goalkeeper.

Well said. He is only good at skill but skill isn't the way to win a football match. It's team work.

Well my gran is Italian, this is not going to make me support Italy as I am an England supporter.

However, being sick of England and it's politics and other b.s. going on I might be moving to France.

So also as Thierry Henry plays for Arsenal and so did Sylvan Wiltord I think I might have a leaning towards

France.

On the other hand Italy play football (when they don't fall over) exactly how it should be played and would enjoy seeing them play that type of stop, pass football.

France seem to play quick dribbling football, not my type of style.

I will go for France.

I do hope it does not end up like the 1994 final and penalties.

But they beat the hell out of your team, TWICE in a row.

Exactly how did they "beat the hell" out of England in either game? Correct me if I'm wrong, but both games finished as a draw with Portugal scoring more penalties at the end (we all know England are crap at penalties).

And didn't Portugal struggle against 10 men in this World Cup?

Pete

I find it funny how people still moaning about the England Vs Portugal game when it was last week. I mean Portugal lost against Germany and still England is moaned at.. lmao Portugal lost nuff said.

England were cheated in Portugal and against Portugal in Germany.

English players are too honest.

Look at what the Portugal did to Rooney in Euro 2004, they went out to injure him so he would be taken off.

Then in Germany, Rooney could have gone down when he was fouled, but he got up 4 times and had his leg trapped by the defender.

Portugal are cheats and if a referee allows cheating to happen he is also a cheat.

As for games being decided on penalty kicks is pointless.

It should be a centre run up with the ball and 15 seconds to score. If the goalkeeper fouls the attacker then it should be a penalty goal.

Or it should be first goal wins and extra time should be unlimited.

Another thing, a goalkeeper is not allowed to move forward off his line till the penalty shooter strikes the ball.

Every penalty England took Ricardo was 2 yards forward and the referee and linesman were watching.

Ronaldo throughout this tournament has thrown himself to the floor when no-one touched him.

boy who cried wolf basically, he dives so much that noone believes or cares if he is actually fouled.

anyway onto the final, come on italia!

I'm glad france got to the final :)

I kind of wanted this final, I'd have liked England - Germany to battle for 3rd rather than portugal.

- HOW the hell, england held up for the most of the game and the extra time without rooney, owen, beckham and you still didnt manage a goal, beat the hell out of england MY ARSE.

Your team arent *great* like you make them out to be, just accept it. EVERYONE else agrees with this becuase its true, nobody LIKES portugal as a team.

    • Dude get a clue, LTSC is Enterprise, not even legal for consumers, and ESU is not mainstream support cycle, just an extended security updates period.
    • Nvidia is your issue more so than linux itself. I did used it for a while with an old 1060 3gb, but using propietary drivers was kind of messy.
