Apple release new "Get a Mac" ads

Recommended Posts

People, people, there is a logical reason why OS X is only supported on Macs - as long as Apple knows what hardware is going to run OS X with limited options they can build a more reliable and less crashable operating system. Microsoft, on the other hand, need to support basically a infinite amount of possibilities with their Operating system - and because of that (and other factors) their operating system isn't as reliable.

Ugh. Why all the excitement about commercials???

I hate commercials...all of them (except the VW Unpimp ones).

Only way I would intentionally watch a commercial is if the commercial was a bunch of super hot naked lesbian models selling vibrators.

I'm tired of Apple getting to do things that MS isn't allowed to do. MS can't put in all the applications they want and stop vendors from doing the same, if MS tried to stop apple from letting people install windows on the Mac they would get an apple lawyer on their doorstep. Apple can bundle whatever they want, lock their OS to whatever they want and lie to potential customers all they want, apple can lock the iPod to their own formats and software and sell the music to fill it, MS has to partner with other companies and remove media players. IF MS had the freedom of hardware control and boundless authority to bundle apps and drop support for old programs, they could have a system that was more secure and stable, but instead MS has made a system that is affordable to average people with the freedom to change their system how they choose, and they've made a few bucks doing it. Apple's system doesn't work. In an apple run world, there is one OS, one CPU maker and maybe one graphics vendor. That sounds like communism to me, and ask your grandpa what he thinks of those damn commies

What do you expect though? It is a Apple marketing commercial. They are going to play to their strong points, and the opponents weak points. I happen to like the commericals.

Bingo, you don't see Tylenol fans getting mad at Bayer cause of their advertisements, its the same thing. Each has its good and its bad, and here Apple is capitalizing on its good and its opponents bad. That is how marketing and advertising work. I think the commercials are catchy and clever as well as funny. And hey, they do speak the truth, lol. Thats not to say though that PCs don't have their advantages...

I love it when mods troll...

How is that trolling, if I may ask? Apple has less than, what, 7% market share? Even a 3rd grader can conclude that they don't sell much therefore displaying misleading ads to lure in sales

Just because they sell less than others doesn't make them worse... Starbucks sells lots and lots of coffee but it is nothing compared to Izzy's in Asheville, and considering there is only one of those, I'm sure their coffee market share is less than that of Apple compared to Starbucks. Just because they are small doesn't make them worse...

There isn't a single lie in those commercials, but they are definitely slanted towards Apple's favor which is understandable considering they are advertisements for their products.

I never said they were worse, I just stated that Apple doesn't sell many of their computers, hence the advertisements to lure in new customers.

I hope you are not comparing Starbucks and whatever Izzy's is to Apple and Microsoft. It doesn't really make much sense to do so :pinch:

Well it does if you are talking about a quality comparison to market share. My point was basically that just because something is small doesn't mean the quality of their goods are less than something is big (BTW, Izzy's is a coffee house in my city, best coffee I have ever tasted, lol).

That is true, these ads are made to lure in new customers. But to say that Apple is lying in the commercials is a false hood, everything they said about Macs are true and same for PC's. That isn't though to say that it isn't slanted. It is extremely slanted, but that is a given considering it is advertising and they are trying to lure new customers in by advertising their good points vs their competitors bad. In the end, its just a commercial, lol.

Hmm, that's fair, but I'd say Adobe Premier wins by a landslide against iMovie.

So, although Premier is far from free, and far from bundled, the "PCs can't edit videos" argument put forth in the commercial is still rubbish.

And Final Cut Pro wins by a landslide.

 Apple's marketing team are the best in the world in my opinion. They come up with some of the best ads on TV. Even if you don't like Apple, you've got to admit the ads are catchy.

yeah i will agree. i dont like Apple too much, but the ads and the stores and gadgets are nice.

It's not flaming to call them out on blatantly misleading advertising. It's also not flaming to deny that Apple did that. But back it up.
I'm not saying they're flaming because they're criticizing Apple's ads and calling them misleading, although judging by my own experiences, the ads are anything but misleading. If you look back at some comments made in this topic, you would have to be blind not to see that some are simply pointless flames.
Let's please stick to the topic guys, we don't need another flamewar. Use what you like, they each have their benefits.
Thank you.

Thats f***ing stupid, Apple are so lame what a childsome advert.

'hello I'm a Mac, oh no I'm having a kernal panic and the hard drive has imploaded and Apples crappy warranty doesn't cover this!'

Cute, but seriously what's a kernel panic? I've only had my iMac for 14 months and I'm not familiar with those. Is that anything like the BSOD's I don't miss?

[edit]: apparently it is...found the info here

Oh (topic  ) the commercials...love the new commercials

    • Any decent ITSM will A) have a web form that allows a user to raise a ticket, if you're writing an email you can write a ticket. B) Monitor a mailbox and auto-generate tickets based on inbound mails for those users that really can't get their heads around the concept that if you have an issue you go to support.mycompany.com and fill in the box. From your description you're having users email the desk, and then having a human read each one and manually raise a ticket on behalf of the user.

    • Fixing things? Have you ever tried linux? Everything works out of the box nowadays in most common hardware. This includes Wifi and Bluetooth. If anything, if they return back to windows is because they haven't found an equivalent program which often used on windows.
