Puzzle Box 4

Whatever the answer, I think 42 should come here after the game is over and explain HOW we were to use the clues to find said answer.

I think most of us will go, we were sussposed to find THAT!?!?

Unless someone can point out anything new, I think I am sticking to my answer, and just going to monitor this now - I'm done.

Poke me with a fork, turn me over, been there done that, Elvis has left the building, DONE!!

Hey. I don?t belong in your forum. I know little about codes and such. But I?ve been playing for fun and thought I?d throw this out as a final answer: Vista. Seems too simple, right? But in the absence of a consensus here, I?ll explain my reasoning: (1) in an earlier video, Loki suggested that the one who gets his name on the chips is the one who finds the ?word,? not ?words,? that leads her to her vanishing point. (ii) I don?t think Vista has been mentioned in the game yet, and it?s the whole point of having the game! (iii) Loki seems to like the number 5, and Vista has 5 letters. (iv) The book Seven Chinese Brothers was redone as Five (5) Chinese Brothers, but is generally the same story. (v) Vista is a synonym for Horizon. (vi) Things vanish into the horizon. (vii) They didn?t name the OS Horizon, but instead, vista. Someone worked hard to come up with that name. (viii) Loki disappears at the point when Vista is released. (ix) The astronomical horizon is exactly midway in the sky between the zenith and the nadir. This would be what the coordinates and directions given could be hinting toward. (x) It?s unlikely that the answer is her name, because in the puzzles, the question right above the answer box was not the question to be answered, but merely a clue. The names (probably Lorelei, Odessa, Kara, and ??(Ivy?)) suggest cities, bodies of water (Rhine, Caspian Sea, Black Sea), coordinates, lines on a map, ergo, ?horizon.? ?Vista.? I?m probably wrong, but it?s the only answer that?s met my comfort level. Best of luck.

Have you tried with Microsoft Vista Operating System ?

I'd like to know how many entered Vista as the answer .. just curious

i do not really mind to much about the prizes for any of this due to the fact that i just love puzzles when i was a child i was given rubiks cubes to play with and i could solve them in less than 20 seconds

Meanwhile I keep searching and learning about stuff I never read before, I won't feel bad if I'm proven

wrong, after all I had a lot of fun, met a lot of new "online" friends, learned a lot from them, joined neowin

that is an excelent place to hang around about other matters besides this game, and I'm cool that I

tried hard. My philosophy is, the fun is on playing the game, not just being the winner, so enjoy the ride

no matter if you are the first one to arrive ...

Cheers

349 posts in 2 weeks? WOW.

Also to be noted as to why this seems so hard. We attacked the puzzles with brute force. When we got the answer we knew we had it right as it shows as solved. I thought it was pretty cool that we solved 9 out of 12 of the puzzles (puzzle 4) before the clues were given to us. We are a bright and resourceful group, I just feel we are looking pretty stupid right now. I would guess that more clues would be given if we haven't hit the answer by now. I'm hoping for a laptop.

Actually isn't "42" "The Answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything" ???

Someone may have (probably has) entered the correct answer. But since the rules indicate only the last answer submitted will be accepted, they've got to let the time run out, in case Mr. (Ms.?) Almostwon shoots himself in the foot and changes his correct answer to an incorrect one (sounds like something I would do...D'oh!).

The fact they haven't provided more clues definitely indicates that the correct answer's been submitted. Now we're just waiting....waiting....waiting. In the meantime, go take a shower--you're getting ripe.

how bout u take all the spots and intersect them

is there a common intersecting or vanishing point

http://www.siggraph.org/education/material...3d/perspect.htm

look at this site when i googled pi, vanishing point, and space

any thoughts

also the notebook in the first video her notebook has intersecting lines on it

I think I'm done answering but just since we're over analyzing everything possible, has everyone seen this video?

http://soapbox.msn.com/video.aspx?vid=f3d1...63-e47d785fe10e

Prolly so, it's linked on the WIKI site.

It talks about LOKI and shows her office at about 1:40 (her name's in all caps, office #4436 in building 50).

Just something else to ponder, don't know if it's significant or not, it's not an actual loki video but who knows.

That's a good thought - there's 2 spots where the lines intersect, around Hadley, Missouri, and Cantarranas / Zamarra, Spain.

I think the answer is right in front of us but we are clouding the issue with all the speculation. I remember playing a puzzle-game years ago called Treasure Quest. I also played all Myst games except for the last one. Many of the puzzles in these game confounded me because I was looking for something complicated when the solution was simple. I think this is the case here. I don't think we are looking for 4 names because in the last video they all ask in unision what, is, my, name. Also the prase "what, is, my, name" is not framed as a question. It sounds like a question but each word is seperated by commas and there is no question mark at the end.

Remember how each meta clue lead to what seems like a word to match the letters of Loki's name. L.O.K.I. so everyone is looking for 4 words to match that's the reason for, Lorelei, Odessa, Kara, I_ _ _ _ _ . There is only one person who plays all four characters, (Note there is no mention of having any sisters). http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...iendID=54234975. With the use of today's technology, (Vista maybe), it is possible to turn one person into many (The Matrix). I don't think we should be looking for four names but one name that Vanishes.

Also a thought, after solving each box she stated, When the time is right I will ask you a question. And follow the trail to find the word it leads to. These each were stated 4 times. But they represent a single thought. The theme is Vanishing Point. What vanishes at the Vanishing Point? L.O.K.I vanishes at the Vanishing Point. What is the Vanishing Point? The launch of Vista is the Vanishing Point. I think a couple of posts are on the same track as I am. The post about TIME, and the post about VISTA. What word vanishes with time? L.O.K.I.!! At the end of this game (Vanishing Point), Loki vanishes. Remember the last puzzle box? It's caption is People Disappear. Three of the 4 characters will infact disappear.

Just something to think about.

Like everyone else I think I'm suffereing from brain meltdown (not to mention the fact I spent very little time on my thesis yesterday and I'm already behind).

A few notes:

1) As someone noted earlier, we're struggling because we have no way to confirm whether a given answer is right or wrong, since the answer page implies there will be no immediate confirmation (otherwise they wouldn't need to mention that only your most recent answer will be considered).

2) Further unlike the individual puzzles we can't be sure what is a clue and what is not. People are throwing up lots of stuff from the game in general that may or may not be relevant. eg the seven Chinese brothers reference, when the reference to the story of hiding the professors door didn't pan out to anything (that I'm aware of)

3) Loki says in the video "All that is left for you to do is answer this question: what is my name". So from this I would think the the "what, is, my, name" is simply the format and the absense of a ? is irrelevant. It is possible that what is my name is an anagram, but we seem to be struggling to get anything from that avenue.

4) If the four names are not the solution then surely they should be keys to the solution. The logic behind Lorelei, Odessa (though possibly Odeshchyna) and Kara seems reasonable. Ivy also seems reasonable but doesn't feel as conclusive. But I don't recall anyone being able to link these names in any way.

5) I do agree that it seems odd after all this work that the meta puzzle solution was apparently just 4 seperate puzzles.

Considering all this I think:

1) Either the four names are the answer (possibly somewhat disappointingly)

or 2) We have really no chance of getting anywhere near it without additional clues (but then they may be trying to point us in the right direction as we speak we're all to jaded to notice.

Note: The vista answer also seems sensible, though without the progression from any clues, but I thought the suggestion somewhere of windows being the answer in some way perhaps had a bit more elegance.

But then everything I just said could be a load of rubbish.

    • Nvidia is your issue more so than linux itself. I did used it for a while with an old 1060 3gb, but using propietary drivers was kind of messy.

    • The current Statcoungter desktop numbers has Google Chrome increasing it's market share this past year and currently commanding 75% share. Everybody else is just making up the numbers with even MS Edge losing 3% this past year and has dipped just below 10% share which is staggering considering it's default on every Windows deviced purchased. If these numbers are correct that terrible Edge number is both devastating and embarrassing for MS especially when you add in the terribly low Bing market share. This leads me to ask a couple of questions as the default browser holding just less than 10% market share seems really weird. It used to be that all Chromium browsers were being counted as Google Chrome in some cases.  Is this still happening? Do these high Google Chrome numbers contains some Edge user numbers?
