Damon Lindelof predicts where media will be in five years.

Wait that's funny, I borrowed money from his mother too

In all seriousness though, that right there is exactly what this is all about. The entire strike is about what he stated right there and anyone who things the writers are being greedy needs to watch that. He's absolutely right, in 5 years, maybe even sooner, the majority of our entertainment will come from the cloud (a.k.a. "New Media") and today is the time, since we're already using the services, to start paying the writers the residuals they're due.

I want Lost as much as the next fan, but this has to happen and as sad as it may be, the strike is a necessary to show the studios the writers are messing around. There will be casualties and millions of crew workers will lose their jobs, but it is obvious that the studios don't want to give up their millions, which it isn't even theirs to begin with, so bad things have to happen to force them to realize this. Sad fact, but true. Change is never pleasant.

Brief interview with Kristin had with Damon Lindelof.

Minor spoilers

It looks like Lost will air eight episodes and then go dark. Does it sadden you that you're not able to deliver those 16 in a row that were promised to the fans?

Yes, it does. I feel like the worst thing we could have done was to plan for a strike and plan accordingly. Everybody had to be optimistic, because then it would have felt like why does episode eight feel like such a conclusion? We learned last year that the show moves at a certain pace, and you can't build up critical momentum in the first six episodes. In fact, when you are doing 24 straight episodes of a show, the first six episodes are a lot of tap dancing and some writers are able to tap-dance very effectively. Cable writers don't have to tap-dance at all, which is why all their shows are so great.

Interesting.

Yeah, and I think that's something Heroes is getting unnecessary guff for right now, too. They're getting a lot of heat because the story can't really start until episode seven or eight. And I remember all this bad-mouthing going on about our show last year, and I talked to Tim [Kring]. I said, "This all feels so familiar to me?don't worry, it only takes one good episode to round the corner and then everybody is back on board again." But an eight-episode season is an incomplete season, and I am not going to try to spin it any other way.At the end of the eighth episode, is there any sense of conclusion whatsoever?

It's as much of a conclusion as, say, Ana-Lucia and Libby getting shot.b>

Wow. Really?

Yes. And you'd be, like, oh my god, I can't believe I have to wait another year and two months for episode nine of this season.

So, it's a cliffhanger?

Yes. And that's the thing, we really planned out the three seasons of 16, 16 and 16...so the idea of having to come back and maybe do a 24-episode season, and that would be season five is just...I can't look the fans in the eye and tell them that we're executing the original plan anymore.

Will the storyline have to be tweaked?

The story will remain the same, but the way [it's] constructed is a lot like saying to J.K. Rowling, "Can you do it in eight books?" And she goes, "I don't want to write an eighth book." And they say, "How about you just take the seventh book and release two 400-page books?"

Lost executive producer Damon Lindelhof has said that he hopes ABC will wait for a full 16 episode run of the cult show to be available before putting it back on the air.

In May, ABC signed up for three 16-episode seasons where the 16 segments would air without rerun breaks. The decision to run the episodes over consecutive weeks was made after ratings dipped during the show's third season, when a 22 episode run was interrupted for 12 weeks after only 6 episodes.

With the WGA strike now heading into a second week, only 8 out of 16 episodes of Lost's fourth season have been filmed and ABC is planning to air them in an eight week block early in 2008.

"That would not be ideal," Lindelhof said while participating in a showrunners' picket outside the ABC-Disney studios. "It would be a lot like airing the six last year... Shows move at their own speed. You design the speed based on the length of the season, and if that season is cut short, you careen out of control."

Fox, which faces a similar situation with 24, has taken a decision along the lines suggested by Lindelhof; 24's seventh season will not be seen until enough episodes are available for the entire season to be aired without interruption.

Yeah as much I would hate to say it but I would rather see 16 in a row rather then just 8 so postpone it.

I agree. But I think ABC is thinking of ratings and since there won't be many, if any, other news shows on at the same time, they're probably thinking a lot of people will tune in even if they've never seen the show before. Might not be a bad thing for ABC.

As much as I want to argue against it, that is a very good point, and will likely be the determining factor. However, American Idol will still be going on. C'mon ABC, think it through!

ABC.com to stream Lost "mobisodes"

Shorts intended for Verizon customers will go online starting Monday; first half of season four still on schedule.

With the writers strike currently causing mayhem on network schedules, several fans of ABC's serial drama Lost are very concerned over the fate of the show.

According to BroadcastingCable.com, ABC is still planning to air season four's first eight shows, which are finished and ready to go. The fourth season is expected to be 16 episodes long, and was given a late start so that the network would not have to split the show up with a midseason break and thus lose momentum.

There will always be a question of whether ABC will ultimately decide to delay the show until it can air the new season uninterrupted--like Fox yesterday chose to do with 24--or stick to its original plan of airing the show in February. However, for now it appears that ABC is taking the latter path.

In the meantime, Lost fans can head to ABC.com beginning Monday to see what are being dubbed "mobisodes"--two-to-three-minute shorts that detail untold adventures of the show's characters, according to Entertainment Weekly. The shorts were originally intended for Verizon Wireless mobile devices (hence "mobisodes") but will now air each Monday online.

The collection, known as the "Missing Pieces," is newly shot material that is part of the Lost universe. It is unclear how many episodes will air.

For those with a guilty conscience who fear that they are going against the writers strike by viewing the "mobisodes," EW says new contracts were developed specifically for the shorts, so you can watch them free of guilt. On the other hand, solidarity is solidarity!

Episode 4.06 - Juliet Centric, plus the return of Libby, Michael, Goodwin, Ethan and Mr Friendly

Question: This strike has me worried about the future of Lost. Since it looks like ABC will go ahead and air the eight completed episodes in early '08, what happens to the other eight? ? Conor

Ausiello: It all depends on when the strike ends. If it ends in the next month or so, there's a good chance all 16 episodes will still air this season. If it goes on longer than that, the back eight would most likely be grouped in with next season's 16. Let's hope it doesn't come to that.

Question: One more Lost-related strike Q: How will the strike affect the return of Harold Perrineau (Michael) and Cynthia Watros (Libby)? ? Conor

Ausiello: They both made the pre-strike cut ? but just barely. Sources confirm that Watros and Perrineau will show up in Episode 8. And I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if they're both somehow involved in the mini cliff-hanger that Team Darlton's been teasing.

Question: I'm absolutely lost without Lost. Can you please pass along any details on Season 4 to tide me over? ? Mike B.

Ausiello: Episode 6 is Juliet-centric and features the return of three deceased characters: *o*****, **h*n, and **. *r*e*d**.

(Note: the three deceased characters must be Goodwin, Ethan and Mr. Friendly)

Whooooo! Sounds ace! Libby back!

Sorry if this has been asked already. Has it moved to another day? Or it's still Wednesday?

I think it is still Wednesday, but nothing official has been released yet. I think ABC is weighing it's options due to the strike. It has a lot of timeslots that other networks will be airing reruns or reality tv shows in that it can chose from.

Plus added to that fact if Damon gets his way it may not air at all, but I doubt ABC will allow him to make that decision but who knows.

If ABC was smart, they'd air it all together, one straight 16 or 24 episode season. Splitting up like this is not a good idea, but ABC is thinking about the money side of things. If they run those 8 episodes during a time of nothing else on TV, then their ratings will sky-rocket because people will tune in, even those who have never watched the show before because there's simply nothing else on. It is a very smart tactic to get new viewers interested.

    • Nice, hope they *finally* fixed the issue with the NTFS driver where the system would completely brick during large file copies using the built in driver. It's been broken for years requiring me to use the older, slower, NTFS-3G FUSE driver.
    • Windows 11 KB5094126 BSODing, freezing, forcing BitLocker lockout, breaks OneDrive, and more by Sayan Sen Microsoft released Windows 11 KB5094126 and KB5093998 last week as the latest Patch Tuesday updates. Following that the company also published the accompanying dynamic updates under KB5094149, KB5095971, and KB5094156. While Microsoft has so far not acknowledged any major problems with the release, some users online are running into problems. These range from OneDrive and Dropbox access issues, BitLocker recovery lockouts, to blue screens and BSODs. The most common one seems to be happening with HP systems wherein affected users say they hit 0xc0430001 BSOD (blue screen of death) error code after the KB5094126 update. We wonder if this could be related to the recent bug we covered on HP devices wherein the ongoing Secure Boot certificate updates are leading to similar issues. While we are not certain, users affected by this issue likely need to ensure that the boot.stl file is included on the installation media (such as a USB installer or ISO), if the above-mentioned dynamic updates are deployed. If this file is missing, computers may fail to boot from the installation media and could display the error 0xc0430001. This STL file is used by Secure Boot to verify that the boot files are trusted, so it must match the same Windows version and system architecture. To ensure the file is included, Microsoft recommends using the Update WinPE script, which automatically updates the image and handles the required files. Alternatively, you can manually copy the boot.stl file from the Windows\Boot\EFI folder on a Windows device and place it in the matching folder on your installation media before deploying the updated image. Aside from blue screening some users also note their systems have been freezing following the update. This could be happening to Lenovo PCs specifically. In the case of the OneDrive and Dropbox access issues, a user figured out that there could be a conflict with UAC. He explained: "Okay, so I did some digging, and in our environment KB5094126 breaks OneDrive and Dropbox in Explorer. I went through all our GPOs and found out that the combination of disabling UAC and having my user being a local admin breaks OneDrive in Explorer. ... If I enable UAC again, then it works, even with KB5094126 still installed." Hopefully, Microsoft will look into these issues. • It is when it's a desktop in my house though for a PC that's lightly used and not really important when it is. If it was a laptop, it would be a different story. The real solution is varied and begins starting at post #22 in that thread.
