[Official] New Xbox Experience (or Fall 2008 Update)

Was about to post that. If someone needed proof that Sony as a company is bad :p it's this. **** them.

Oh come on, people, if Microsoft owned a publishing company like Sony does, they'd do the same thing.

Besides, the company responsible for this, although owned by sony, operates almost entirely independantly. There's still Sony-owned IP's on the 360.

I doubt it. Generally companies that are competing in one aspect of business are perfectly happy working together on others. Sony's Colombia Pictures isn't competing with the Xbox 360 so there's no reason for this.

Actually they ARE competing now. Don't forget, Sony launched their own video marketplace just after E3.

No. The Console divisions of both companies are competing. That's it. Sony's movie divisions are not competing with anything of Microsofts and it doesn't make sense to say that they are in competition over this. Why would Sony pull that from the system. They can offer their **** up on both video marketplaces and it doesn't even matter which one someone buys it from - Sony gets money off of it.

thats not columbia though.

As said, generally, companies are willing to work together unless their competing with each other in that specific area.

Its why toshiba and sony were working together with the cell, but fighting each other with HDDVD and Bluray at the same time.

Kushan don't post sensible things, you know the only acceptable reply is to say "**** Sony".

Get with the times

It's not ideal for 360 owners no, but it's hardly suprising. Nintendo recently blocked Goldeneye, a single game, from even getting to MS.

For now, however, Sony Pictures Entertainment films available for streaming through Netflix — including “Superbad,” “We Own The Night” and others — will remain blocked on Xbox 360, until Sony says otherwise.

Some are available, maybe others will come.

Hey guys, THE NXE IS OUT!

Well, sort of! If you installed the "Leaked" update, you can NOW connect back to live and download the rest of it, the restriction has been lifted. Apparently things are going slow, it's possible they haven't allocated server bandwidth yet or it's just going to get worse come the official release, either way I'd advise people to get stuck in NOW!

Make no mistake about it. If the shoes were on the other foot then all the same. People would be **** Microsoft just as well and you know it. So don't even try to play that card. :p

Microsoft don't own any movie studios.

Just seems like they want their own movies exclusive to their system.

I don't believe it's the case for renting movies on marketplace, it's just Netflix right?

edit: I read it properly

"As watching instantly becomes a more prominent part of the Netflix service, our goal is to have all of our streaming content licensed for all of our partner devices. We're doing well in this area, but it will take some time before we fully achieve that goal. Today, titles regularly come in and out of license and there is a natural ebb and flow to what we have on license at any given point in time. In the case of Xbox 360, a few hundred titles are temporarily unavailable to be streamed via the Xbox game console. Those titles are still available to be watched on subscribers' computers and on TVs via other partner devices, and we hope they'll be licensed for Xbox 360 shortly."

Licensing between Sony and Netflix it is, but only to the 360.

In all likliness, it's probably more due to a ToS condition between Sony and Netflix regarding their competitors. Even though they may not (currently) directly compete, chances are someone, somewhere fired off a legal notice and they've taken them off while they renegotiate.

I don't know if you've purposefully ignored my point or just didn't get it, but what I was saying was that if the tables were turned and Microsoft did own a movie studio and Sony made an agreement with a movie distributor to offer their services on their console and Microsoft were to disallow such distribution that people would be angry at Microsoft all the same. Of course, this is all hypothetical because Microsoft doesn't own a movie studio, etc ...

I'm sure that will happen as well. Sony is simply going to ask for more money and all we can hope for is that NetFlix agrees. When/if that does happen, I will definitely be getting a NetFlix subscription.

Hmm...I've been patiently waiting for this, but I guess there's no point in waiting anymore. Was I right in thinking that you could install the update VIA thumb drive? If so, then I'll finally be joining the club tonight.

Extract the rar so you have a folder called $systemupdate, put that FOLDER on a USB thumb drive, so you have X:\$systemupdate with a file inside that folder.

Then just plug it into your 360 and when you turn it on, it'll ask you to update. It wont brick your system unless you do something silly (like turn it off mid-update). All these updates are signed by Microsoft, there's no way to create a "bad" one that the 360 will install.

I can confirm this to be true! I just installed the update from my flash drive and when I signed into my account, it prompted me to update.

    • Visual Studio finally gets long-awaited feature that developers will love by Usama Jawad Visual Studio Code is Microsoft's popular, lightweight, open-source code editor, it is actually Visual Studio that is the company's flagship integrated development environment (IDE). Although the IDE already offers a boatload of useful features for developers, Microsoft has finally introduced a long-requested capability that will be loved by many. While developers have already been able to create Git pull requests (PRs) directly within Visual Studio for the past couple of years, it had not been possible to review a PR without switching to the browser, until now. Microsoft revealed in December 2025 that it is working on UX that enables developers to do just that, and fast-forward to June 2026, and Visual Studio finally has native capabilities to open and inspect a PR, discuss feedback, and wrap up the review, all without switching to the browser. This integration works for both GitHub and Azure DevOps (including on-prem). Developers have access to multiple surfaces to open a PR, including Git Repository, Git Changes, and the Git menu in Visual Studio. Once you open a PR, all the important details will be immediately visible to you, from where you can navigate to various levels of granularity and branch states, depending on the reviews that you are engaged in. As you would expect, you also get a diff view that enables you to see code changes inline or side-by-side in a separate panel. You can also review commit-by-commit. Additionally, this UX fosters collaboration as you can leave comments, reply to threads, and resolve conversations easily. Naturally, you can also leverage Copilot to apply a code suggestion to fix a potential issue. When you are done, you have the ability to approve, complete, and merge the PR. This is a pretty major feature as it has been requested heavily for the past few years. You can try it out in Visual Studio 2026 version 18.7, made available here recently. Microsoft plans to enhance this experience further in future releases with comment filtering, a timeline of PR activity, and more.

    • Around 68% of developers are now using AI to generate code during development, and some experts are saying that a single developer using AI tools can now do the work of an entire team of 4 to 5 engineers.  According to Figma's State of the Designer 2026 report, 72% of designers now use generative AI in their workflows and 91% say it improves the quality of their work, not just their speed.  But does this mean web developers and designers are becoming less relevant, or are they simply evolving into a different kind of role? Would love to hear from developers and designers here has AI made your job easier, or do you feel threatened by how fast these tools are improving
