Sony calls out Xbox and Wii as flea market peddlers

Greenberg also said they aren't "even thinking about next-gen" here

If you believe that, then wow  You're in the wrong hobbie. Me thinks people need to do some light reading on product design and cycle  Same goes for PS3/Wii. Without a doubt, they are all at work on the next console and will have been for some time (Y)

I really don't care about a next-gen console at the moment. I'd be more happy with a refined version of the 360 (much like what Sony did with the slim PS2s). I'd like to see improvements to the existing model instead of an all new one.

I checked again and people who pay $4 are semi-semi-fools. Try stealing one.

And thats what I did :p

Although it is ironic really seeing as it was my brother's HDMI cable that came with his Elite 360 :p

A slim 360 with the powerbrick packed inside (death to power bricks!) would be awesome, and sure to boost 360 sales as opposed to moving to a new generation next year which will probably somewhat choke sales.

I'd definitely buy a new slim 360.

If they included a slot loading drive also, it would be amazing.

http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/24/xbox-36...-vision-mind-c/ - FTW!

Oh god, not slot loading - bunch of BS that is, there's a reason why most devices use regular old drivers.

It's okay, you can just stick with your normal 360.

I want my slim to have slot loading ;)

Then it will be sexy (Y)

I was gonna update my Halo 360 to a new Jasper, but with all this talk about slims, I think I'll wait till E3 to see if anything stirs!

Then you are ( Thankfully ) gonna have to wait until hell freezes over ;)

You never know! :sorcerer:

The Wii slot loading works fine for DVD.

But you probably are right. I just want a slim though with included powerbrick, slot loading would be nice, but it's unlikely due to the contractors MS have on board for their DVD drives.

Why are these dumb price comparison charts still being throw about? We all know the PS3 is the cheaper option should you want to buy a 360 with every available add-on.

But that's the point, they are add-ons and are therefore optional - no one really needs Wi-Fi connectivity, but it sure is a nice luxury to have.

By offering add-ons, Microsoft has the cheapest console on the market. In this current economic climate cheap sells, and their holiday sales prove this.

no one really needs Wi-Fi connectivity, but it sure is a nice luxury to have.

Actually no one really needs the hard drive - You can play 99% of 360 games without it.

People do need WiFi, it's the only addon in this chart people may need to play games/update their system, so it's hardly a luxury for those people.

I needed WiFi till I drilled holes in my room walls and ran cables through my loft/down through a new wall that was being erected downstairs.

If that new wall wasn't being put up, there was no way I could've gone wired due to the location of my room in the house (my whole room/PC was on wireless for years before this event). As it stands the cable has actually been embedded inside the wall itself - If it ever fails, im doomed :p

That's probably the reason Nintendo went WiFi only, as with WiFi everyone can connect, with ethernet only you've got those in rooms far away from their router.

Not causing an argument here, just pointing out if anything is needed for people, it's WiFi before any of the other addons.

There's a reason you've got topics like this :p - https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=721396

The lack of WiFi connectivity on the 360 is actually what was putting me off getting it because i didn't want to play ?60 for the adapter. My router/cable modem is on another floor of my house in my bedroom while the 360 is in the living room and it's not feasible to use a 10-20m ethernet cable.

I don't understand why it's so expensive.

Actually, in Europe (even with the add-ons) the 360 is cheaper. Hell, an Elite costs 299? and an 80GB PS3 goes for 399? around here, even with the WiFi adapter it's cheaper (and has a bigger hard drive).

Anyway, each console has it's own advantages, comparing prices isn't the best way to define value, it's really up to who's buying it to define it.

I'm just shocked some people don't have phone lines in their bed rooms, do mummy and daddy not trust you with phone bills? :p

I have a wireless handset in my room, no need for a phone line :p

My room is located in a loft conversion though, so realistically I'm lucky to even have power points in here, besides phone lines

People with consoles in living rooms may also want to use wireless, as you're still talking about running and tidying a long ethernet cable from your TV setup to the room where your router is. When I briefly had my consoles downstairs in the living room (before I got my HDTV), I still had them on wireless.

I'm just shocked some people don't have phone lines in their bed rooms, do mummy and daddy not trust you with phone bills? :p

I'm the opposite, i don't have the cable modem/router or even a PC in my living room on the whole ground floor. I don't trust anyone else to even look at them :p

Wireless is not a "requirement" at all. We have been over this. The only requirement for online gaming some form of connection, and the most flexible of those connections is actually a wired one since a wire doesn't have a maximum effective range like a router does. By the time you buy a wireless router ($50-$80) and then an extender ($30-$50) you could have bought at least five 100ft ethernet cables and a switch/non-wireless router.

Contradiction much?

It is not viable for people to run 100m ethernet cables all over their houses in many instances Emn1ty, I don't understand how you can't realize that.

I was on wireless in my room for years like I said above before I had an opportunity to go wired.

The majority of houses will have wireless routers, all the big broadband providers in the UK tend to give you a free wireless router when you sign on (BT/AOL/Mobile Phone Providers/Sky), and have done for years.

The Nintendo Wii ONLY has a wireless connection, and it's in 40 odd million households and you don't see many topics from people saying "I need an ethernet port over wireless".

Not for "some" people, wich probably is many yes, runing wires isn't... well I'll go so far as saying practical, thought I wouldn't go to impossible.

However, why should hose of us who don't need or want wireless have to pay for it. isn't it better that those who DO need it have to pay for it ?

and of course the Wii users don't complain, Firstly they never play on it, secondly the few who do play on it, hardly ever play online. And the one thing they neer do is stream HD content.

First, who the hell needs 100m ethernet  Where do guys live, a palace? You don't have phone connections in bedrooms, but enough house for 100m cables?!

and second, the Wii has ethernet too :) (via accessory albeit, but wireless isn't the only solution)

Hawkman hit the nail on the head:

Which is the exact same route Nintendo took, but the other way around..but then, the 360 is cheaper ;)

*raises hand* I'd buy that :|

A slim 360 with a slot loader would be nazz-t!

Okay "100m" :p I'm sure someone else said 100m and I just tagged along with it ;)

I use 20m I think it is right now. Or maybe it's 30m? Sure it's 20m. That's drilling into the walls of the house though, and luckily the room with the router is kinda directly below my bedroom.

Still the thing is, it's a pain in the ass to find a way to staple the cable all along the wall, through doors and into other rooms if you don't have a phone jack in the room your TV/console is in. You can't just drag a cable across your floor, out your door and around your house :p

Didn't know the Wii has an ethernet addon! It probably costs a bomb also.

I'm sure people at least have one phone line in their upstairs. You don't need to go to the livingroom or the furthest away phone point. Really, people are blowing this way over the top. Wireless isn't all its cracked up to be. Even if I had the choice with the 360 with built in wi-fi and I was in your position AB, I'd still use wires.

Wireless is bad enough for gaming (or any internet related tasks), but a weak signal is even worse.

ftr, a 100 meter tp cable wouldn't be category 5:p (well technically it woudl falljust within as the spec says 90 meters max, but with 5 meters of patch cabe at each end)

and yes, that's completely off topic :p

I played games online for years on wireless and it was no issue at all. Download speeds fine also.

Seriously, complaints about wireless gaming are completely blown out of proportion at times.

My signal would be from 65-80% across devices and PC.

I never intended this to be blown up, it's just as I was someone in a position previously who needed wireless, it's a bit daft seeing people say it's a luxury. Many people do need it to get connected, that's all.

Not every house is setup, or has an easy layout for running ethernet cable from under your TV.

but it's still not a necessity, a necessity would be if everyone needed it to play gams with the console or needed it to play online at the very least.

You still didn't reply saying wether you thought it wasn't a better idea that those that actually need it pay or it rather than everyone having to pay for something a minority will need and use.

    • Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) 18.1.5.5 by Razvan Serea Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) is a utility for completely removing AMD/NVIDIA/INTEL graphics drivers and related packages from your system, attempting to eliminate all leftovers (including registry entries, folders and files, driver store). Though AMD/NVIDIA/INTEL drivers can usually be removed via the Windows Control Panel, this uninstaller tool was created for situations where standard uninstall fails, or when you need to fully remove NVIDIA or ATI graphics card drivers. After using this driver cleaner, your system will behave as though it’s the first time you’re installing a new driver—similar to a fresh Windows installation. As with all such tools, we recommend creating a restore point beforehand, allowing you to undo changes if issues arise. If you're having trouble installing an older or newer driver, try it—there are reports that it resolves such problems. Recommended usage: The tool can be used in Normal mode but for absolute stability when using DDU, Safemode is always the best. Make a backup or a system restore (but it should normally be pretty safe). It is best to exclude the DDU folder completely from any security software to avoid issues. You do NOT need to uninstall the driver prior using DDU. Requirements: .NET Framework 4.8 Compatible with Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10, and 11 (32-bit or 64-bit) Note: Using on Insider Preview builds is at your own risk.
