Stupidly stupid money, it won't be a spending spree, unless we buy the Newcastle team :p Players fergie wants will end up costing over ?30m so we'll be lucky to get 2 top class players in for that ?80m

Manchester United should start paying off their huge debts.

If they end up in administration, then they can kiss goodbye to the premiership.

With respect to Ronaldo, he was a nobody when he played against Arsenal.

He got a goal where no freekick should have been given as he hits the floor if you dare go near him.

So good riddence.

+1.. my thoughts exactly.. good riddence (Y)

Apparently Spurs were trying to buy Ruud from Madrid.. I feel after playing for United and Madrid.. Tottenham will be a step backwards for him even though he's not that good anymore..

Strangely no one is buying form us.. someone plz take Adebayor away?!

It is stupid but just wait now and see what Chelsea will do this season.. ?170m in debt and more stupidity to come this season.. ?45m for Aguero and then ?30-35m for Pirlo.. can be good buys but I won't play that much for them.. When teams see Chelsea and City coming after their players the prices go up and that makes me smile.. Roman Abramrovich will be bald and broke when he decides to give up on Chesea

RvN is still a class player, he's been out injured for a long time though which is why everyone seems to think he has died. He was still banging them in prior to his knee injury in November.

He is available for around ?1.25 million, I wouldn't mind if Liverpool took a punt on him to be honest.

tbh that's crazy you can't buy a team to win trophies....actually where have I heard that before :p

 Man I was beat.. that was a much needed laugh.. so back to transfers..

Real Madrid are on the brink of signing David Villa from Valencia after Chelsea were told that they had no chance of signing him, according to the Blues' Spanish scout

Juan Cruz Sol is the English team's representative in Spain and he stated that Chelsea have been given a firm "no" to their offer for the player because the Mestalla club are "in advanced negotiations with Real Madrid".

The former Valencia and Madrid player confirmed that the Blues "had made an important offer for him", but he insisted that it was not for €48 million as has been reported.

"Villa wants to go to Real Madrid" and things are "well advanced" meaning that Chelsea "recognise that and are waiting to see what happens".

"He wants to join Madrid because he wants to stay in Spain and that is normal.

"There is no chance of Villa going to Chelsea because he wants to now go to Madrid," he said according to Marca.

Victor Valdes' agent has cast fresh doubts over the future of the goalkeeper at Barcelona by stating that they are "far away" from a new deal.

The player's current contract with Barca expires next summer and there have been reports that he will leave a year before he becomes a free agent.

Now that is what I would be hoping would happen if I was Wenger and grab him the moment he becomes a free agent.. he is clearly better than Almunia..

And..

Deco has been linked with a summer switch to Inter Milan, and the Portugal international has indicated he would welcome a reunion with Jose Mourinho, with whom he enjoyed success at Porto.

The former Barcelona ace noted: "Of course I would like to work again under Mourinho, he is a guarantee of success. He is a great coach, perhaps the best one of my career.

"I have a contract, I know the two clubs have been in talks. Anyway, I have to respect and wait.

"I do not want to stay, I have said that. I have not liked my experience at Chelsea."

Platini is keen to address the fiscal environment of European football and therefore wants to adopt a socialist policy to continental competition by creating a level economic playing field.

"These transfers are a serious challenge to the idea of fair play and the concept of financial balance in our competitions," he complained.

"UEFA is working hard with clubs to set up a new set of rules... to clean up the system and give it a more solid, more transparent base.

"That is our top priority today," he concluded.

I never thought I'd say this, but Platini is right. Big money transfers like Ronaldo and Kaka are killing the sport.

FIFA really need to take some pages out of rugby's book. They have wage caps and video referees, two things that need to be implemented into football A.S.A.P.

I was just reading that and agree ?80m for one player, I mean give ?20m more and you can buy Newcastl:p:p

Platini ought to shut it.

In society people can earn millions sitting on the board of some major company or earn pittance stacking shelves in a supermarket.

Ronaldo and Kaka will make Real Madrid piles of money, so why should they not get a %?

Same with musicians, they expect royalties and payments for their music.

@leesmithg,

Players do get signing fee, it could be quite a big sum.

I find Platini's sudden reaction to this as silly, because it's like he draws the line at 80m pounds.

I personally don't like where this is going, in several years we'll be seeing players go for billions !

Regulations should be enforced, but who knows what to do ? Simply block a transfer ? Sue them ?

Also, to be fair to the "Rich" clubs around - it's not like a mediocre club like Newcastle could sign C. Ronaldo or Kaka, even if there was a rule that max bid for a player is 1m pounds.

He would still go to the "better" more prestigious clubs available (such as Real Madrid)

They don't get part of the transfer fee if they request a transfer.

While I'm sad that we're losing a very good player, I'm also a bit relieved that the summer circus is ending before it could really get started. Everyone knew he would leave, it was just a matter of when. Plus, 80m is insane money for a player, so it's not like we're getting the short end of the stick (Beckham).

Another plus is that his ego will finally be out the door. No more hissy fits, tantrums and rolling around the pitch like he's on fire.

Time for Rooney and co to step up...

Apparently Real Madrid are looking to sell Wesley Sneijder.. I wanted him at Arsenal when Ajax were looking to sell him a while back.. not sure we need him now coz he have Cesc/Arshavin/Nasri.. but he sure is a class player.. I want him at Arsenal again but not sure we need him.. maybe as a winger if Wenger doesn't want Silva?

Also for the second or third summer in a row Yaya is linked with Arsenal.. I don't think it will happen again this summer.. plus I'd rather sign Marcos Senna TBH than Yaya

According to British tabloid The Sun, Los Blancos president Florentino Perez has offered Arjen Robben to Liverpool in a direct swap for Spanish midfielder Xabi Alonso.

Perez, who is known to be a big fan of Alonso, has already offered ?18 million for the holding midfielder, but Liverpool manager, Rafael Benitez, turned down the bid. The report states that Liverpool want ?27 million for Alonso, but Perez is not keen to splash out more money after spending ?142 million on Kaka and Ronaldo earlier this week.

Dutchman Robben is also valued at ?27 million, and Perez is confident that Benitez will accept a direct swap for the wing-wizard, without the inclusion of cash in the deal.

The stumbling block of the deal could be Robben's injury record, as the Netherlands international has been struggling with fitness ever since he moved to the Bernabeu two years ago.

The Sun also states that, should Liverpool decline such an offer, then Perez will be willing to offer Gabriel Heinze plus ?18 million for Alonso instead. This deal is more realistic, since Benitez tried to capture the Argentinean stopper two years ago while he was playing at Manchester United.

First of all source is The Sun so first reaction is.. :rolleyes:eyes:

but still what do you Red fans think about this?

United want Mirko Vucinic..

"It's certainly pleasing that a great club like that are interested in me," he told Corriere dello Sport. "But I have only heard about it from the newspapers.

"At the moment I'm only thinking about relaxing by the seaside with my family.

"I've just signed a new contract and I'd like to stay at Roma."

Roma reportedly refused a €22million offer from United last summer for Vucinic but, knowing they have to sell to buy, could accept €25million for the 25-year-old.

Mourinho wants Deco..

The self-proclaimed 'Special One' has now intensified rumours of a move for Deco by claiming he would relish the chance to coach the ex-Barcelona star once again.

"I would be very satisfied to work with Deco again," he told Lusa. "I remember the good moments we had together, the good work we did and the victories we obtained.

"I helped Deco grow, but it was with players like him that I became the coach I am now.

"If it is possible for him to come to Inter and for us to work together again it would be something wonderful for both of us."

Where is he off to?

Portsmouth executive chairman Peter Storrie has told Sky Sports News that the club have received a bid for Glen Johnson and that a deal could be concluded imminently.

...

Former club Chelsea, who Johnson left to join Portsmouth, have been credited with making a bid, as have Manchester City and Liverpool, who in some reports are thought to be the front-runners for his signature.

Storrie admits he will not block the player from joining a club that will enable him to play in the UEFA Champions League next season.

He told Sky Sports News: "Glen has had a fantastic season for us and I think he is the best right-back in the country at the moment.

"I've know Glen a long while, from my West Ham days. When I re-signed him (at Portsmouth) we talked things over.

"He said, 'If one of the big four come in with Champions League football, would you stand in my way?'

"I told him I couldn't do that. Providing the deal is right for Portsmouth and Glen then we will look to try and do something in the right way.

"It is very hard to try and hold people back when they have a chance to play in the Champions League. I accept that."

When asked if an offer of between ?15million and ?18million had been tabled, Storrie replied: "You may not be a million miles away from the mark."

Storrie went on to concede that a deal could be struck imminently, adding: "I wouldn't think it would be too long."

Just when I was about to close the Google Chrome window in disappointment of finding no Arsenal transfer news.. I found this at Setanta!!! :woot:

Wesley Sneijder has signalled his intention to remain with Real Madrid, amid suggestions he could be a target for Arsenal.

...

Arsene Wenger is reported to be monitoring the situation, but Sneijder?s agent claims the midfielder wants to fight for his future at Real.

?Wesley has told me that he wants to stay at Real next year,? Soren Lerby told Volkskrant. ?He says it does not matter who they buy, he wants to stay.

?I have heard nothing from the club.?

That can be a wicked midfield.. Walcott/Rosicky Nasri Arshavin Sneijder and Cesc in holding role..

Ribery next for Madrid midfield?

Zidane has been a long-standing admirer of the current Bayern Munich playmaker and, with a seemingly endless bankroll available to the La Liga outfit, hopes that he will soon be able to welcome him to the Spanish capital.

Some might have thought that, after having signed Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka, Madrid's attacking positions were covered, but Zidane feels that Florentino Perez would be wise to snap at any chance to sign Ribery.

"We really hope that he will sign," Zidane told RMC radio.

"It would be superb news for the club.

"If he was to come over to Madrid I would be delighted to welcome him."

While I'm sad that we're losing a very good player, I'm also a bit relieved that the summer circus is ending before it could really get started. Everyone knew he would leave, it was just a matter of when. Plus, 80m is insane money for a player, so it's not like we're getting the short end of the stick (Beckham).

Time for Rooney and co to step up...

We had this (still get it with Fabregas) with respect to Vieira, Henry, Overmars, Anelka, Petit etc.....

It disturbs the team and ****es off the fans.

    • An actual cosmic "Eye of Sauron" had been looking straight at us all along by Sayan Sen Image by Kovin P. Vasquez via Pexels | Not representative An international team of researchers has solved a long-standing mystery surrounding a distant blazar known as PKS 1424+240, helping explain why it produces some of the brightest high-energy gamma rays and cosmic neutrinos ever observed despite appearing to have a relatively slow-moving jet. The findings were published on June 6 in Astronomy & Astrophysics Letters. The study addresses a broader challenge in astrophysics: understanding how extreme cosmic objects accelerate particles to very high energies and produce very high-energy (VHE) photons and neutrinos. PKS 1424+240 is located billions of light-years from Earth. It has attracted attention for years because it is both a powerful source of VHE gamma rays and the brightest known neutrino-emitting blazar in the sky, according to observations by the IceCube Neutrino Observatory. It is also associated with one of the strongest peaks in IceCube's nine-year neutrino sky map A blazar is a type of active galactic nucleus powered by a supermassive black hole that pulls in surrounding matter and launches jets of plasma moving close to the speed of light. What makes blazars unique is their orientation. One of their jets points almost directly toward Earth, making them appear exceptionally bright across the electromagnetic spectrum and allowing scientists to study some of the most extreme physical processes in the Universe. The scientists exclaimed it's like the 'Eye of Sauron' in deep space. Usually, the brightest gamma-ray-emitting blazars are expected to have jets that appear to move very quickly. However, radio observations of PKS 1424+240 suggested that its jet was moving much more slowly, creating a contradiction that became part of a long-running problem known as the "Doppler factor crisis." To investigate, researchers analyzed 15 years of observations from the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA), a network of 10 radio antennas spread across the continental United States, Hawaii and St. Croix. Using a technique called Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI), astronomers combine signals from widely separated radio telescopes to create a virtual Earth-sized telescope capable of revealing extremely fine details. The team combined 42 polarization-sensitive radio images collected between 2009 and 2025, creating a much deeper and more detailed view of the jet than had previously been possible. The observations were carried out as part of MOJAVE (Monitoring Of Jets in Active galactic nuclei with VLBA Experiments), a long-running program that studies the brightness, polarization and magnetic field structures of jets produced by active galaxies. The project aims to better understand how activity near supermassive black holes is linked to high-energy radiation and neutrino emission. “When we reconstructed the image, it looked absolutely stunning,” said Yuri Kovalev, lead author of the study and Principal Investigator of the European Research Council-funded MuSES project at the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy. “We have never seen anything quite like it — a near-perfect toroidal magnetic field with a jet, pointing straight at us.” The image revealed an unusual geometry. The researchers found that Earth lies almost directly in line with the jet, with a viewing angle of less than 0.6 degrees. In simple terms, astronomers are looking almost straight down the jet. This turned out to be the key to the mystery. Because the jet is aimed almost directly at Earth, a relativistic effect called Doppler boosting dramatically increases its apparent brightness. The study found that this effect boosts the emission by a factor of about 30 while also making the jet appear slower than it actually is. “This alignment causes a boost in brightness by a factor of 30 or more,” said Jack Livingston, a co-author at the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy. “At the same time, the jet appears to move slowly due to projection effects — a classic optical illusion.” The nearly head-on view also gave scientists a rare look at the jet's magnetic field. Using polarized radio signals, they detected a clear toroidal, or doughnut-shaped, magnetic field component. The observations suggest the jet carries an electric current and that its magnetic field helps launch, shape and stabilize the flow of plasma. Researchers believe this magnetic structure may also play a key role in accelerating particles to energies high enough to produce both gamma rays and neutrinos. “Solving this puzzle confirms that active galactic nuclei with supermassive black holes are not only powerful accelerators of electrons, but also of protons — the origin of the observed high-energy neutrinos,” Kovalev said. The research was conducted under the MuSES (Multi-messenger Studies of Energetic Sources) project, which investigates how active galactic nuclei accelerate particles and generate different cosmic signals, including light and neutrinos. Scientists say understanding how protons are accelerated and linked to neutrino production remains one of the major unanswered questions in astrophysics. The findings help explain why some blazars can appear to have slow jets while still producing extremely bright high-energy emissions. More broadly, the study strengthens the link between relativistic jets, magnetic fields, gamma rays and high-energy neutrinos. Researchers say the results provide new clues about how some of the Universe's most powerful natural particle accelerators work and offer important insights for multimessenger astronomy, which combines different types of cosmic signals to study extreme events in space.
