Windows 7 Build 7100 RC (Changes/Bugs/Tweaks) Discussion

Recommended Posts

I tried the beta and i thought it worked pretty well, however, i had issues with my Auzentech X-Plosion sound card. It stuttered and the quality was kinda poor. Anyone know if there's a driver for the RC anywhere. I know there's one for the prelude, but it's not the same is it?

I saw something about that near the beginning of this thread, go back and read.

Im sure there are alot of behind the scenes code changes and bug fixes in this rc, but some people may not notice them as build 7077 was stable anyways, well it was for me except that profile error i got which is likely from the power cut or crash i had.

i have to give it a try and post more impressions after installing. The only problem is that i tend to use this builds as main OS , and it's ok :) never had any problems with this. The only problem is transferring the data between formats.

I wish to see more speed in the final.

The position of Fewer and More details needs to be changed so it aligns with the arrow button:

The Windows Media Center startup sound needs to be changed too, because it's just terrible. Why would anybody choose that? Why would anybody even make it?

No, it's not the same. X-Plosion is built on C-Media hardware, Prelude is built on Creative parts. I mailed Auzentech regarding issues with the X-Plosion drivers back when build 7000 was released and received this answer from them:

First of all, we apologize for all this situation. The formal driver of Windows 7 is not available yet.The O/S is pretty stable though it is beta version. However, our major focus is on the driver of Windows Vista and XP for our product line. We have got issues on Windows 7, and we do have a discussion on the driver of Windows 7. As the CMedia's mentioned, Windows 7 driver scheduled from June of 2009. All your ticket will be reported to the develop team. It will not come to finish soon, however we will let you know any updates as soon as it is available.
WIN7 BUG QUESTION -

Is it true that bugs from here on out will be fixed via Windows Updates rather than newer builds? If so, does that mean there will be no further builds?

Should we be turning on Windows updates on a leaked build we are not even supposed to have? Anyone get any love from WU yet?

No, that will not happen, new builds will continue to be released, and yes Windows update still needs to be left on to download drivers, definition updates, ETC

edit quoted bodean when i meant to quote frank lol

My annoyance was at the way that Bodean posted, in a way designed to talk down to me

Is WMP12 allowing third party codecs yet?

It has always allowed third party codecs, you just can't replace the default ones

Most of the leaks seem to have modified that cversion.ini that holds the earliest build you can upgrade from, by default its 7100.....from what I have it has been modified to allow upgrading from earlier versions (something MS themselves explain how to do, but they suggest not doing it).

So in short, these builds are supposedly the official RC builds, but (from what I read at least) the cversion.ini has already been modified so you can upgrade if you want.

(Again, this is just what I've read, my DL has not finished so I cannot confirm it)

I have the ISO released to the scene, which should not be modified, and the cversion is set to 7077 min. So I'd guess 7100 have got 7077 -> 7100 enabled by Microsoft, maybe as they are so similar code-wise? :s

+1 here... i have the same opinion about it. The startup animation is kind of cool, but the sound is way to "plastic"

The only problem I have run across in this build is a anti-virus detection issue with VirusScan Enterprise + AntiSpyware Enterprise 8.7.0i in Windows Security Center.

I've done everything I've been able to look around and do to try to fix it, but it's still there. If this problem still exists when Windows 7 goes RTM, then it'll be a little bit more of a problem. But at this point, it's no big deal since Windows 7 is still in testing and the anti-virus still works. (I'm one that likes to know what's going on with things, so I'm not turning that message off.) I didn't have this issue in Build 7077 and earlier, although VirusScan Enterprise + AntiSpyware Enterprise 8.7.0i Patch 1 should be coming out soon. Whether or not it fixes this particular issue I'm seeing or not, I don't know. Besides that, I've had no other problems out of Build 7100. Overall, it's a good build.

I have to run off to work so no time to read through all the posts. Just a quick question, I'm running build 7077, is there any reason to upgrade now, other than this being the RC build. If there are no important bug fixes, speed enhancements I would just wait. Thanks for any responses.

The only issue I have is below

Notice the Yes button becomes inactive when you tick the box. It shouldn't be like that and it has been ever since the beta.

I don't think this is a bug. If your checking the box that says you do not want windows to remember your password, then why would you want it to remember the password for the current site? If you click No then the box shouldn't come up again and offer to remember passwords of any sites.

The only issue I have is below

I always figured the checkbox meant you don't want it to remember passwords at all, but it seems they changed the wording. I didn't notice.

I actually noticed that this morning when I was updating Windows Update to use Microsoft Update and wasn't expecting that dialog to pop up. I didn't even have to have the checkmark checked and the "Yes" button was grayed out. Not that it mattered to me, I don't store passwords anyway, but I'm glad to know it's not just me.

    • I and many others did not vote to get out of the E.u because of Putin or Farage, we did so for our own reasons. You don't have to tel me what my own did or did not do when it comes to the E.U. The EEC is or was the European Economic Community, a different beast to what the E.U is now.The EEC was a mainly about trading, the E.U have gone far beyond that and as I have said before, is now more of a United States of Europe. The U.K did not vote to join a United States of Europe. Anyway, they did not want us in there in the first place, Charles de Gaulle stopped us joining as he claimed we didn’t agree with the core ideas of integration. He was not wrong and that is why we voted out of the E.U when the time came. I was not old enough to vote the first time. My only regret is that we did not have the referendum years ago and got out years ago. If we rejoined, we would have to agree to join the Euro and no doubt Schengen, agree with freedom of movement, we have enough problem with people coming over here as it is. i have no problem with people coming over here if they work and don't try to push their way of life onto us. The E.U has a currency, freedom of movement, an anthem a flag, a parliament, well they are there, not sure if they do anything. Don't sound like something that is just for trading. Oh yeah, also wanted a euro Army. How many stupid rules have the E.U made that we had to follow? I doubt I will see the Uk rejoin the E.U, which suits me. Oh yeah, my partner is Polish, she came over here before Poland joined the E.U and she got fed up of people just coming over here with ease, while she had to struggle. She is now a British citizen and have been for a fair few years

    • Screamer is 50% off on Steam, making it £24.99 here in the UK: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2814990/Screamer/ You might remember the series from the mid 90s / early 2000s, this new game is also by Milestone who created the older games.
    • U.S. partially reverses Anthropic AI ban for Mythos but keeps Fable 5 off the market by Karthik Mudaliar Anthropic says that the U.S. government has finally allowed it to restore Claude Mythos 5. But of course, there's a catch. The rollout is again for a limited set of U.S. organizations that operate and defend critical infrastructure. The company announced this in a post on X (formerly Twitter). This does not mean that Anthropic's latest frontier models are back to normal availability. Fable 5, which was a tuned version of Mythos 5 for public release, remains unavailable. Anthropic said that it is still working with the government to expand Mythos 5 access and make Fable 5 available again, but there's no timeline. Reports from Bloomberg and Reuters say that this decision actually came through a letter from the U.S. Commerce Department. According to Reuters, this would allow more than 100 companies and institutions access to Mythos 5. Reuters also reported that Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick’s letter removes the need for export licenses for approved companies’ non-US citizen employees, as well as Anthropic’s own non-US citizen employees, while restrictions remain for organizations outside the approved list. Anthropic isn't alone with this kind of controlled rollout. OpenAI's newest model family, GPT 5.6, was announced just yesterday, but isn't available for everyone yet. In its announcement, OpenAI also said that access to these models is initially limited to a select group of trusted partners and organizations, with broader access planned later this year. Both of these cases show that frontier AI launches are no longer just ordinary product releases and more like slow and vetted deployments shaped heavily by the U.S. government.
