[Official] Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

You get a choice whether to kill them or not! You get to a checkpoint and it asks you whether you wish to carry on, you can leave it and go to the next mission, go through with it, shoot/not shoot civillians. YOUR choice.

Also it's leaked on Xbox 360 now, but can't be played online as there is no stealth :)

IMO that makes it even worse, like they're wanting some sort of back peddling mechanic to defend themselves.

If it's an integral part of the story put it in and make gamers play it, else it'll just look like shock tactics or doing it for the sake of creating drama. You don't get to an uncomfortable part of a movie and a massive disclamer pops up saying "cover your eyes and ears if you don't like blood/swearing/gore/violence". Just makes the gaming story telling medium look weak and mishandled.

p2p then?

not long until my preorder gets here for PS3 ^_^

You know what. I agree 100% AB

Yeah but If they put it mandatory, it's not the gamers who's going to complain but some *****'s in Washington will start crying about too much violence in video game. It would be like fueling the fire, I think what IW did was a right choice.

You're missing my point, if it's made non-mandatory then it's clearly positioned as an optional "go kill these civilians if you want to" mini-game, which in return will be reflected as a situation of "if you do it you're a crazed child molesting terrorist killer and a threat to the United states" by the media.

Where as if everyone who plays it is ushered through it as it's part of the story the media can't define camps, EVERYONE who plays COD MW2 has to experience that scene. Just like in a movie, everyone experiences the scene.

It's making me doubt it's importance if it can be skipped, therefore I have worries it's just done to "push boundaries", which is lame, if a developer wants to push boundaries they should be approaching story telling in gaming in a more mature fashion to try and reach the lofty heights of movie story telling.

Putting violence, ######, sex in your game is utterly disconnected and mishandled if it's just there for the sake of it - Excluding something that's built upon humour and mindless fun like GTA, or some other situational scenes in other games where its understood as humour/not serious. It's not the gratuity the media should be focussing on, it's the lame way in which games approach story telling and maturity at times.

Terrorists killing innocents is in most like literally hundreds of movies, we don't bat an eyelid, but if developers are mishandling the transition of putting such scenes into games as bad as IW may have, it's no wonder games get ripped to shreds.

If it's an optional scene to play it could so easily have just been a cutscene dictating the terrorist violence...

It is confirmed that you can select whether or not you want to play through the next scene. And 18+ is plastered all over the box.

It's funny how the game is 18+ but there will be hundreds of thousands of 18- teens playing it online. Since IW is hosting these games on its own servers it may be grounds for a lawsuit... hint hint.

Screw you, Infinity Ward!

Don't know if you meant that as a joke, and ignoring the fact that is one of the stupidest things I've heard today. :p

How is developer/publisher at fault for selling a game that is 18+ to those younger when they don't sell the game itself directly to the user?

The under age user/parents and shop are to blame for under 18's getting their hands on the game they shouldn't have.

I agree with this, but one blissful thing about dedicated servers on the PC is you can find a handful that have a good bunch of regular people and avoid the absolutely inane and tiresome flaw of matchmaking and it giving you the retards of the day on constant flow (usually people under "18").

If I'm honest that's probably why I've put over 200 hours into TF2, the communities I regular on, yet I can't ever seem to get into multiplayer on consoles as it's so much hassle for me to be constantly paired with randoms every game.

Halo/COD are also the worst offenders to be a cesspool of a tribute to just how badly some adults need not to have children, but that's inherent because of their popularity.

This game is going to be absolutely amazing...sure its garnering bad press over this terrorist mission but to be honest I think its a very cool addition to the game. It's going to be a new feeling to be on the other side of the law.

For those who IW will be at fault for under-age gamers getting a hold of the games, that is simply not true, the blame falls upon the retailers and the parents who buy the game for their kids. I hope people don't make big enough of a deal out of it to the point where they have to pull the games off the shelves or something drastic...that's why I will buy my copy on day 1 :D

It's been ripped.

and a new video: Cole Hamels speaks out against grenade spam.

Lol, that's hilarious! So funny. Especially the ending!

    • Simple answer is yes, you will still get the Windows updates and as long as browser is up to date, you will be good. Only thing secure boot does is protect you against boot level threats and make it harder to install other OS's. I've been looking into this pretty thoroughly lately myself as wifes computer has secure boot disabled plus my other, older computers that run Linux, don't have secure boot enabled. Have seen all kinds of questions about this on the Linux Mint and MX Linux forums. Just don't suddenly enable secure boot now.

    • AltSendme 0.4.1 by Razvan Serea AltSendme is a minimal, cross-platform application designed for fast, secure, and private peer-to-peer file transfers. It allows users to send files or entire directories directly between devices without relying on cloud servers, accounts, or any personal information. Everything is encrypted end-to-end using modern protocols like QUIC and TLS 1.3, ensuring both strong security and low-latency performance. Transfers are verified with BLAKE3 for data integrity, and interrupted downloads automatically resume, making the experience reliable even on unstable connections. You can transfer anything—images, videos, documents, and more. Integrity checks are performed on both ends, so your files are automatically verified for correctness during both sending and receiving. AltSendme works seamlessly across local networks or long-distance links, capable of saturating multi-gigabit connections for extremely fast delivery. With built-in NAT traversal and encrypted relay fallback, it connects devices almost anywhere. The app integrates with the Sendme CLI and will soon support mobile and web platforms. Fully free and open-source, AltSendme offers a lightweight, privacy-first alternative to traditional cloud-based services, removing size limits, upload costs, and unnecessary data exposure. AltSendme 0.4.1 changelog: Release Highlights Self-hosted relays: Run your own iroh relay so transfers don't rely on public infrastructure. Includes a full deployment template in deploy/relay/ with Docker Compose for a VPS and configuration examples for production use. Fly.io support: One-click deploy template for Fly.io, including a quick-start config (fly.dev.toml) for testing without a custom domain, plus production setup with Let's Encrypt and your own hostname. Relay settings UI: New Settings → Network panel to choose how AltSendme connects: automatic public relays, custom self-hosted URLs (with optional auth token), or disabled. Test connections, verify latency, and see live relay status in the footer. Disable relays: Turn off relay servers entirely when you only need same-network transfers (e.g. LAN). Direct connections only. No relay hop required when devices can reach each other. Android graduates from beta: Android is now part of the regular release cycle alongside desktop. APKs ship with each version (universal, arm64, and armv7). Other improvements Private relay access control via shared auth token Relay fallback notifications when a custom relay is unreachable Broadcast mode toggle in sharing settings Android release build fixes (split-per-ABI APKs, universal APK preservation) UI polish: mobile safe-area insets, dropzone layout, transfer progress animation Bug fixes for minification-related serialization issues and system tray icon loading What's Changed feat(relay): add relay status functionality and settings UI (a120cdf) feat(relay): implement custom relay server configuration and verification (51276c7) feat(relay): add configuration for private relay access and enhance observability features (48fbabf) feat(relay): enhance relay URL validation, display connection status (d4fffa0) feat(relay): add RelayChangeGuard component and enhance relay-related translations (16ba514) feat(broadcast): add toggle setting for broadcast mode in sharing UI (ca6d977) fix(relay): correct QUIC discovery port, pin image, templatize fly.dev (52a2ba5) fix: More broken serialization due to minification (67491a9) fix(android): preserve true universal APK across per-ABI builds (e9f256f) fix(ui): conditional safe-area insets padding on mobile (1182f0e) refactor(transfer): CircularRing component animation fix (944572b) chore(android): drop x86 and x86_64 release APKs, keep universal+arm64+armv7 (34ada0b) Download: AltSendme 0.4.1 | ARM64 | ~9.0 MB (Open Source) Download: AltSendme for MacOS | Android Links: AltSendme Home Page | GitHub | Screenshot Get alerted to all of our Software updates on Twitter at @NeowinSoftware
    • You are mostly right about the ephemeral nature of it. As I mention in the article, if you dont add a second device or take a backup of your account before uninstalling it, then yes you will lose access to your account. That said, in terms of actual user experience when you sync multiple devices your message history carries across and there's also a Saved Messages chat like there is on Telegram to send messages and attachments between your installs. But yh, what you point out are correct and its not trying to emulate Messenger or Telegram.
