NHL 09-10 Season

I'm looking for a website or video that will explain NHL to someone that doesn't know anything about the sport. I've been trying to get into this sport, but since I live in the Netherlands I've never even seen an actual game from start to finish, let alone understand the rules of the game.

The videos I found on YouTube are useless.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah, I was looking at that and it surprised me how complicated it all seems on paper. CBC's website streams games (with video) on Saturday nights. Often there are two games back to back (an east coast matchup and a west coast matchup). It looks like there is a choice of east coast games tonight.

The Leafs never improve because they never hit bottom. Finishing every year in 9th or 10th spot is the ultimate loser position. If you are going to miss the playoffs then miss them hard and go for your lottery position. That is, of course, assuming you haven't traded away your top picks.

We always seem to be a mediocre/poor team that some Toronto G.M. thinks is only one or two free agents away from being a Stanley Cups contender. For some mysterious reason and despite 42 mostly consistent years of evidence to the contrary, hope still springs eternal and the sports radio channels are fulled with lofty predictions every fall for the upcoming coming season.

Many people blame the fans and the high corporate ownership rate of season's tickets. So long as the product sells-out then there is no impudence to improve the team. How long is the waiting list to get new season's tickets (at least for reasonably good seats)? Last time I checked, it was better to pay the deposit in your child's name rather than in your own because you probably won't live that long. A recent study also concluded that Toronto hockey prices were the most expensive in the NHL with a family of four paying $547 to watch a single game with food and parking (if they could even get the tickets). Compare this to the Southern U.S. teams that would allow you to arrive at the game and purchase good and cheap seats without any hassle. But no, Gary, we don't need another team in Southern Ontario. :rolleyes:

Not to rub it in or anything, but not too far south in columbus we have an "all you can eat" ticket. Im sure other places do too, but its only $39 for the seat and unlimited food(I dont think beer though). They have about 200 of them when they do it, and probably do it about 10-15 times a year. They are not the best seats, but what do you expect, they used to be center ice though until this year. If you are up for a roadtrip you could come down on december 3rd.

Yeah, my next trip to the U.S. will certainly include watching a hockey game. Many people insist that it is cheaper to fly to Florida and stay overnight to see a Leaf's game than it is to see one at home. Not to mention the fact that you can probably get better seats.

If I ever did another ski trip to Western New York then I might include a visit to Ohio. There are a few places to ski in western New York that are not too bad (Holiday Valley, Kissing Bridge). They are about the size of Ontario's Blue Mountain but they are cheaper and less crowded.

I've just seen the hit Mike Richards put on David Booth, ouch is all i can say. I know it was considered a legal hit and all, but considering that Booth got a concussion out of that hit and Richards was ejected from the game, shouldn't the league hand out some kind of punishment for the hit? On the subject of hit's to the head/hit's from behind, i honestly think that Ruutu getting a three game suspension for the hit on Tucker isn't severe enough. I realise that Tucker isn't the most liked person in the league, but he has now been sidelined for at least a month. Ruutu however, will only miss 3 games, hardly fair i think.

It's part of the centennial celebrations. Random games wearing vintage jerseys. It's not supposed to happen too often this season, though.

Those Hab 3rd jerseys had a Maple Leaf on them making the Habs-Leafs game somewhat confusing. Well, it wasn't like I couldn't figure out the game but there was a moment of "WTF?". Remember this is a game where the puck moves too fast for some audiences. They don't need any further distractions.

Incidentally, what does/did CAC stand for? (or whatever the acronym was that was on Maple Leaf)

Major injury woes for the Canucks. You know it's bad when they're having to resort to call up for the call ups and defense-men as forwards. Latest to go is Grabner. It's a miracle we're over .500.

Isn't it wonderful? Right now they're tied for first in the entire league with the Penguins.

I don't know what they did, but whatever it is the players are playing like the championship team we know and love and have missed the past few seasons.

10 shots and a -1 on the 1st game with no gel. hm.. I have to say there is no chemistry between Kessel, Stajan and Blake. Kessel is good and fast, Blake is fast and Stajan.. too slow to keep up with them imo.

It was his first game in 6 months. Tonight he will be paired up with Blake and Mitchell. 10 shots was a career game high for him too. Both goalies were on their game the other night too.

The fighting robot animations on the scoreboard updates were the most annoying. Apparently NHL hockey is set to benefit the most of any sport from the HDTV transition. With HDTV there is no need for a blue glowing puck.
