best news all year concerning the canadiens

Now what to do with the Gomez contract?....

That was Gainey's biggest mistake. He's a good guy, but the moves he made as a GM were suspect at best.

Good luck to the new GM :)

getting rid of koivu was what ****ed off most hab fans... and the gomez was just a kick in the groin. He's good, but not 7.5 million good.

Few players are worth that much.

I wish the Canucks had signed Gaborik in the offseason. Then we could really content for a cup.

I still think Vancouver needs one more player to be a real cup contender, but Luongo does have to play better.

canucks will always be one player away. for whatever reason they can never get that guy, and they need the sisters to show up in the playoffs for once...

crazy hab vs caps game tonight. Goodbye winning stream for washington :)

Glad he's ok

You're not supposed to block shots when you have that much space between you and the shooter. It always happens though, most of the time the player doesn't get injured.

That's scary, guys like Georges are good hard working players, you hate to see them injured.

Ovechkin has been suspended for two games. On one hand, it is surprising considering that he is a superstar and the NHL is generally lenient, but on the other hand, it is his third game misconduct this year.

I would have to agree with the suspension, although somewhat for different reasons. I disagree with the basis of injury-based punishment, where someone whose victim is unharmed will often not even receive a penalty. To rid the league of dangerous plays, there needs to be a consistent policy on how to punish players who endanger their opponents, so as to prevent the acts. Similarly, that Ovechkin has been kicked out of games before this year is an excellent precedent to issue a suspension.

^ my only beef is why did lapierre get four games and ovie only two?

I assume it is because one makes the NHL money and other does not (make as much).

Not that I agree with it. But at the very least Ovechkin did get a suspension. So, while not equal, some steps were made regardless of star status.

How much longer is it going to take people to realize what I did a while ago?

OVECHKIN IS A DIRTY PLAYER.

look at the evidence, hits from behind, slewfoots, knees.. What else do people need to realize this. Their love for his 'passion' has blinded everyone.

He wins games, um who cares?

He wins games, um who cares?

Brian Campbell? The Chicago Blackhawks? The people of Chicago, hoping for the first Stanley Cup for their city in 49 years? In general, hockey fans who want a clean game with players not getting hurt.

Those who do not care are those who profit from Ovechkin.

If Chicago wins, then Washington can't, and that means Ovechkin isn't doing his job. So as long as Chicago and every other team is losing, then Ovechkin is doing everything right. Sports are competitive, to complain that it's not fair because someone is willing to take a penalty, which it should have been, is naive at best.

i wouldn't call him dirty. just reckless/an idiot...

It's not the fact that he's willing to take a penalty, it's the fact that his hits are extremely sloppy, the knee on knee, the hits from behind. There is no place in hockey for that kind of a player.

I didn't say it wasn't fair. Fairness has nothing to do with it.

What I said was that the NHL must avoid player injuries, and if a player like Alexander Ovechkin continues to cause injuries to other players, then he must face punishment. The safety of any player is one of the most important things that the league must deal with. Competition? Yes, absolutely! But not when people are getting hurt, whether it is because of reckless play or outright dirty hits.
