Anyone know how the arena ranking system works? Is a higher rank or lower rank better?

No idea, but all the games I've played my rank has gone up and that has been with me being number 1 or 2 in the kills.

They posted the formula as to how they rate you, but other than that nothing else. I'm assuming that you rank will go up as you improve and go down if you suck it up. That way they can divided everyone into divisions by percentile and not numbers.

Here's a link to a nifty article on all the info (to my knowledge) that's been released on the Arena system.

I just played for about 30 minutes. After playing Halo 3 for so long (my buddies and I are still playing it every week), this definitely feels like a breath of fresh air. I love how you can sprint now, and it already feels like second nature (perhaps because every other FPS has it already ;)). In fact, I'm loving it so much that I haven't even tried the other classes yet.

I'm also loving the DMR. Good replacement for the Battle Rifle, and I really like how they handled the aiming (how it gets worse fast if you just go wild).

Perhaps I'll have more to say once I've played for a longer amount of time, but my first impression is certainly positive. I didn't have any problems connecting or finding players, but perhaps I just lucked out.

Played a bit last night, and I'll definately be playing some more tonight.

Feels really solid, though I wish i could get the homing plasma grenade gun a bit more often :)Also had a few good runs with the sword and managed a mellee doubekill.

I'm wondering how some players seem to manage some more interesting hand to hand kills though, I'm assuming that's just what happens when you assasinate but I'm not sure. Also some it seems there's a trick I don't know in Guard mode, where some people manage go attack from guard mode with a mellee attack that's similar to assassinate.

The beam rifle I keep getting killed by, but I can't use it for the life of me :)

I love the menu's though. usually I hate animated menu(cough dirt cough), but these I love, probably because they don't have a 20 second animation between each menu level. They just look good and smooth. And everything seems very well thought out and integrated. The way you get to your armor setup without entering special sub menus and such. Also like how you can customize in between matches without dropping out.

Just overall, it feels like one if not the, best put together games I've seen so far. granted we've only seen a small part.

Not liking the beta at all here. There is way too much grenade spamming going on. Go to walk around a door way and 4 or 5 grenades come barreling at you and you dont walk fast enough to be able to move. Pretty much 1 grenade kills you as well making it way overpowered. Other problem I've come across is the weapon balancing is pretty far off. The pistol is actual better to me then using 80% of the the other guns. Other then that however, the game is very solid. Weapon tweaking etc is things that of course all can be done before or even after the final game.

A sticky will kill you in one, yes, but just the blast from a grenade won't.

yes they can. it's happened to me on a few occasions. also the explode radius on those things is pretty wide too. if im low on health with full shield sometimes a grenade 10 feet away will kill me.

Well then the game is broken (for you at least) as I throw pretty good grenades and they weren't 1 hit kills last night when I played.

Proof at 4mins 30:

Guys throws a grenade to the one on the roof, and he survives (including 1 or 2 pistol shots to boot).

it doesn't happen all the time. once every other game atleast once for me i guess it will hit just the right spot

Same here. My grenades usually never seem to ever kill them unless they were already damaged.

sounds like you are forgetting to pick up health packs? On that note, I find it irritating to have to press RB (Recon layout here) to pick health. pinch.gif I'd much rather prefer the Halo:CE or ODST way of doing it - just walk over it.

Good point actually. First time I tried to use one I thought it would auto-pickup, but you need to press X to use them.

The grenades are way too overpowered compared to the Halo 3 counterpart. I get it that they want to change but goddamn they're way too powerful.

Although that doesn't **** me off as much as the melee system right now.

gah,. played in the grab bag for some team goodness today...

BIG EFFING MISTAKE!!!

not only did my team lose at LEAST one player every round, often 2(yeah the other team always had a full team), but I kept being graced by people who apparently didn't understand the difference between slayer, and CTP and the Death ball thing modes. Seriously one of the matches, my team had ONE flag capture, I did that one, the other guys, they didn't even go for the flag, nevermind protect it after I did grab flags...

double depressign when I saw the entire other team run as one with the flag on the next CTF match.... this makes PUG's in MMO games seem like awesome team play :p and yes, it is my own damn fault for not having friends :p

At least he melee system is consistent. Sure it is a bit overpowered with Sprint and Armor Lock but compared to grenade spam on Sword Base it is nothing. I enjoy the melee system because it does actually have some form of skill gap to it. But I am open for a better system. They current melee system, while somewhat skillful and different, is very weird.

Seriously? The current melee system is AWFUL. I think what really messes up melee is the fact you've got shields + health. It really does not mix well and has been highly inconsistent for me.

I'll be full health 75% shields and die from a melee when I melee someone who has almost no shield/some health.

Edit: And super lunge is lame. I hate commando pro in MW2.. but I swear this has super frikin' god-like lunge.

    • Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) 18.1.5.5 by Razvan Serea Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) is a utility for completely removing AMD/NVIDIA/INTEL graphics drivers and related packages from your system, attempting to eliminate all leftovers (including registry entries, folders and files, driver store). Though AMD/NVIDIA/INTEL drivers can usually be removed via the Windows Control Panel, this uninstaller tool was created for situations where standard uninstall fails, or when you need to fully remove NVIDIA or ATI graphics card drivers. After using this driver cleaner, your system will behave as though it’s the first time you’re installing a new driver—similar to a fresh Windows installation. As with all such tools, we recommend creating a restore point beforehand, allowing you to undo changes if issues arise. If you're having trouble installing an older or newer driver, try it—there are reports that it resolves such problems. Recommended usage: The tool can be used in Normal mode but for absolute stability when using DDU, Safemode is always the best. Make a backup or a system restore (but it should normally be pretty safe). It is best to exclude the DDU folder completely from any security software to avoid issues. You do NOT need to uninstall the driver prior using DDU. Requirements: .NET Framework 4.8 Compatible with Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10, and 11 (32-bit or 64-bit) Note: Using on Insider Preview builds is at your own risk. Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) 18.1.5.5 changelog: Added 'Reset to recommended' button for the Options. General fixes and improvements. WACUP 1.99.51.24568 Preview changelog: Fixed a deadlock seen from the recent crash reports when doing some of the drag + drop actions within the media library window Fixed a loading crash seen related to a problem with some of the artwork cache image files being restored which should now be better handled allowing for the bad image to be removed without it failing Fixed a deadlock seen from the recent crash reports when the internal metadata cache clearing is triggered which could block the main ui thread for too long with this now being moved to a background thread Fixed some performance issues with some of the methods related to determining artwork support which mainly affected the local library import / refresh (this is still slower for some compared to other players because there's more data & artwork aspects being checked for which means doing more processing on a single file despite the best of attempts to reduce duplicate / heavy processing where possible) Fixed a crash with the JTFE based missing files hotkey which no one seems to have used for an age for this to appear (maybe it's time to seriously consider stripping out features that aren't being used) Fixed how some of the file types which use extra information to reference their sub-songs is handled which was preventing some from being correctly resolved back to their base file (noticed fixing above) Fixed an issue with the handling of files with underscores in their filepath which wasn't being correctly handled causing some of the filename to be lost when shown as the title if title reading is delayed Fixed a few things that might be behind NotSoDirect not being stable for some setups though am still not certain that the changes done for this are going to fully resolve the problem from the crash reports Fixed the OS toast handling when there's no prior shortcut in the OS start menu to now create the shortcut (needed to allow the yes/no buttons for the new build / post-release toast) to be done as a hidden one so it's less likely to cause annoyance for those not wanting to see it whilst still allowing this less than ideal OS api implementation requirement to be met to avoid toasts without the needed buttons Fixed a regression when moving from taglib1 to taglib2 which broke some of the handling in place to allow for external programs to still access files when wacup has a held open cached instance of the file Everything else Updated cppwinrt (gen_win10shell.dll) to 3.0.260520.1 (26 May 2026) Updated libcurl (libcurl.dll) to 8.2.1 (24 Jun 2026) Updated Monkey's Audio (in_ape.dll) to 13.15 (28 Jun 2026) Updated mpg123 (mpg123.dll) to 1.33.6 (6 Jun 2026) Updated OpenSSL (libcurl.dll) to 3.5.7 (9 Jun 2026) Updated pugixml to 1.16 (16 Jun 2026) Updated taglib (tag2.dll) to 2.3.0 (11 May 2026) Updated vgmstream (in_vgmstream.dll) to the latest Git commit from 28 Jun 2026 Download: WACUP 64-bit | 9.6 MB (Freeware) Download: WACUP 32-bit View: WACUP Website | Screenshots Get alerted to all of our Software updates on Twitter at @NeowinSoftware
