Beware that there seems to be a bug in some situations with the 360 version displaying low-resolution textures when it has higher ones available, so take 360-PS3 comparisons with a grain of salt until there has been at least a few patches.

I've got both the 360 and PS3 version out on rent to decide which to play... I've got two 360s and the textures look completely different depending on which I play it on (same TV / settings), one looks quite poor and the other looks on-par with the PS3 version. The framerate and lighting is better on the 360 version though (imo) so I think I'll be going with the 360 version.

I can only hope that the PC version is more polished than the console counterparts. :(

:s any source about that texture glitch?

No source... just what I've seen with my own eyes. I've seen a few people on other forums mentioning the same issue though (some people have resolved it by clearing the 360 cache, some others only have issues with it from the HDD)

It's like this: http://i.imgur.com/Lrg0Z.jpg - (low-res texture on the left part), but was much more extreme in my case. On one of the 360s quite a few assets weren't loading high-res textures. On the other 360 it's fine though :/

Anyone know of any deals or promo codes for sites like Direct2Drive? I seem to have narrowly missed several deals (IGN Prime, GreenManGaming) by mere days, so I'm trying my best to find a deal now before I just cave and spend the $55 at D2D.

Five hours from this post, it will be unlocked on Steam.

Prepare for disappoint.... the UI is totally trashed with Console Portism, I hope you like using the WASD keys to navigate all the menus/inventory.. the Field of View is also HORRIBLE... maybe there is a setting in a cfg to fix that, but this game is totally ruined by the console port.... I am going to give it one last chance, if I feel the same way, I am uninstalling it..

To change fov hit the ~ button and type setcamerafov ##

## is your preference

It can also be done via a config file if that is your preference:

  1. Go to your My Documents -> My Games -> Skyrim -> skyrim
  2. Create a backup of the skyrim.ini file
  3. Open the file, then scroll down to where it says [General]
  4. At the bottom of this section, add fdefaultfov=XX (where XX is the FOV value you want to change to)
  5. Save, exit, and play

I haven't purchased the game yet but I always research things like being able to change fov before I decide if I buy games or not, so yeah. You can at least change the fov through the in game console.. this assumes you're playing on the pc version though.

Ugh, seriously? That doesn't boast very well at all. I can already hear the screams from angry people. Guess I should borrow a wired Xbox360 controller from a friend.

To make matters worse I just read that the UI is in a different format than previous Bethsoft games so it may be impossible to mod the ui.

From what I've read the mouse not working in the UI is a bug and not the way its designed. Some people are reporting the mouse working fine after disabling the use gamepad option.

I don't see a Use Gamepad option anywhere, there is a "360 Controller" option, but it doesn't make a difference.

Well, it's still not unlocked under Steam so I'll have to wait to pass

judgement... but I'll say this: As long as I CAN navigate the menus,

I don't forsee a problem. I'm used to having to learn new control

systems for different games. It comes with the territory.

sigh... if that is true, the end is finally here. Consoles have killed the last bastion of good games.

I'm not sure whether to be offended or enlightened by all this console bashing. I quite enjoy the games I play on my PS3 on a big screen TV. I don't have to worry about upgrading it constantly and shelling out half my paycheck every 6 months to have a computer capable of running newer games at a decent framerate. On top of all that, I've never had a complaint about graphics quality.

Do not confuse need with want. PC gamers who regularly upgrade their rigs do so to get the absolute best experience but this is by no means necessary; any decent build made within the last few years will still run most games smoother and prettier than a console and at an equivalent or better resolution.

It has been many years since regular upgrading was mandatory for properly enjoying PC gaming.

    • VidCoder 12.20 by Razvan Serea VidCoder is a DVD/Blu-ray ripping and video transcoding application for Windows. It uses HandBrake as its encoding engine. Calling directly into the HandBrake library gives it a more rich UI than the official HandBrake Windows GUI. VidCoder can rip DVDs but does not defeat the CSS encryption found in most commercial DVDs. You’ll need the NET 8 Desktop Runtime. If you don’t have it, VidCoder will prompt you to download and install it. The Portable version is self-contained and does not require any .NET Runtime to be installed. You do not need to install HandBrake for VidCoder to work. Feature list: Multi-threaded MP4, MKV containers Completely integrated encoding pipeline: everything is in one process and no huge intermediate temporary files H.264, H.265, MPEG-4, MPEG-2, VP8, Theora video Hardware-accelerated encoding with AMD VCE, Nvidia NVENC and Intel QuickSync AAC, MP3, Vorbis, AC3, FLAC audio encoding and AAC/AC3/MP3/DTS/DTS-HD passthrough Target bitrate, size or quality for video 2-pass encoding Decomb, detelecine, deinterlace, rotate, reflect, chroma smooth, colorspace filters Powerful batch encoding with simultaneous encodes Customizable Pickers to automatically pick audio and subtitle tracks, destination, titles and more Instant source previews Creates small encoded preview clips Pause, resume encoding VidCoder 12.20 changes: Updated HandBrake core to 1.11.2. • Too soon, I'm still not over this death!
    • Normally, I admit when a title is clickbait (unfortunately, it's become somewhat necessary to compete against AI-dominated news sections today), but in this case, all supported versions is implied and doesn't need to be spelled out in the title. Of course, I'm covering a Patch Tuesday update bug that is only available to supported Windows SKUs. All our coverage relates to supported Windows software and SKUs only unless we expressly state that it's "unsupported", "unofficial", or "third-party". I'm sorry, but supported/official SKUs don't need to be spelled out as such in every Neowin headline.
