Copilot for Gaming beta begins, lets you ask AI for help when a game gets too difficult

Copilot for Gaming

Back in March, Microsoft revealed that it is developing a new brand of its Copilot AI primarily for gamers. Aptly dubbed Copilot for Gaming, the initiative was announced as the "ultimate gaming sidekick," letting players get help for whatever game they may be having a hard time with. Now, Microsoft has officially kicked off the beta, though it's currently only on mobile devices.

Available via the Xbox app for mobile in the beta branch, Copilot for Gaming can be quickly pulled up to ask questions related to games. Thanks to Xbox integration, the AI will already get question context from what game is currently being played and get additional information from the internet for its response. "We’re working hard to bring deeper personalization, richer game assistance such as proactive coaching, and many more features to Copilot for Gaming (Beta) at a later date," added Microsoft.

Here are some examples from Microsoft of what players can ask from the AI right now in its beta state, like help for difficult sections, game recommendations, and information about achievements or the Xbox account:

  • “Hey Copilot, can you remind me what materials I need to craft a sword in Minecraft?”
  • [While playing South by Midnight] “I’m stuck on Rougarou right now. Can you give me some tips on how to beat this boss?”
  • “What’s my gamerscore, and can you give me some tips to raise it?
  • “Hey Copilot, what should I play tonight?”
  • “I love horror movies. Any suggestions for what game I should play?”
  • “I’m looking for a new RPG. Can you recommend something that came out on Xbox recently?
  • “Hey Copilot, what’s the rarest achievement you can get in Avowed?”
  • “What was the last achievement I got in Starfield?”
  • “When does my Game Pass subscription renew?”

While Copilot for Gaming beta is currently only available for iOS and Android devices as a second-screen experience, Microsoft says it plans to bring the functionality to Game Bar on Windows soon. Here are the countries that can try out the beta (PDF).
