Every ad you see on Meta platforms could be AI-generated by 2026

Digital advertising on Meta platforms could undergo a radical change, as fresh reports indicate that Meta could fully automate the creation and targeting of advertisements using its AI tools by 2026. This could mean that all ads on Meta platforms could be AI-generated.

Last May, Meta launched a suite of AI features for advertisers. These tools allowed advertisers to use Meta's generative AI in their adverts. Currently, Meta's ad platform uses AI to target ads on Facebook and Instagram. Now, according to the report, the company wants to help brands create ads from scratch.

Advertisers would need to input just the product image and their budget goal; Meta's AI will take care of the rest. Notably, using the uploaded product image and the budget, Meta AI will generate a complete ad package, which will include text, visuals, and video, and also pick the best audience to target.

This move goes in line with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg's broader vision of AI automation as the future of advertising. As per the Wall Street Journal, advertising is the core of Meta's business, which generated more than 97% of the company's overall revenue last year. Also, ads help the company to invest in "AI chips and data centers, and for training cutting-edge AI models."

In the company’s annual shareholder meeting last week, Zuckerberg said:

In the not-too-distant future, we want to get to a world where any business will be able to just tell us what objective they’re trying to achieve, like selling something or getting a new customer, how much they’re willing to pay for each result, and connect their bank account and then we just do the rest for them.

The company is also working on new AI advertisement tools that will allow for personalization in real time. This would mean that advertisers will be able to view different versions of their ads based on factors such as geolocation. Users in snowy areas could see an ad featuring a car climbing a snow mountain, whereas the same ad for a person living in an urban area would show that same car being driven on a city street.

Meta's plan of giving AI a push across its platforms comes after competitors like Google introduced their advanced Veo video generator AI tool. Meta is also eyeing to integration of third-party AI models such as Dall-E and Midjourney into its platform.
