Last month, there were strong indications that Samsung had started testing Google’s latest operating system, Android 7.0 Nougat. Now, Samsung devices running Android 7.0 have shown up in new benchmarks.
The Samsung Galaxy S7 is an excellent device launched earlier this year, but the flagship phone only came with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow onboard. Now, a bit over a month since Android 7.0 Nougat was officially released, Samsung seems to be getting ready roll out the update to its customers.
Results on the GFXBench database show a Samsung Galaxy S7 running the newest Android 7.0 version available. The folks over at SamMobile, who first spotted the entry, suggest this may indicate an imminent launch of the software for international phone models.
However, we’d urge a bit more caution. After all, it took Samsung four months to begin updating its previous S6 and S6 edge devices to Android 6.0, and mobile phone carriers are bound to delay the process as well. Plus, even Google struggled to get Android 7.0 on its own devices, with the Nexus 6 only just receiving the update today, while the Nexus 9 LTE version is still MIA.
Meanwhile, Google is expected to unveil a brand new version of Android Nougat today, alongside its Pixel smartphones. So even though Samsung may be getting ready to roll out Android 7.0, users would then have to wait further for the Android 7.1 update.
