Sony patents user-customizable, motion sensitive controller

Sony has successfully patented a new controller design which breaks apart, allowing the user to customize it, and reconfigure it depending on the style of game they are playing.

The controller is essentially two Wii-Mote style sections with faceplates, which can be connected in a variety of positions. The controller has one more trick up its sleeve, however - it has built in tracking LEDs and an ultrasonic sound emitter, which will allow the PlayStation Eye to recognize its exact location in 3D space - providing a higher level of accuracy than that of current generation motion sensitive controllers, such as Nintendo's Wii-Mote.

Will this help Sony take away the ever-increasing sales of Nintendo's Wii console? Or will it simply be another company promising to jump on the motion-sensitive-controller bandwagon?
