T-Mobile has repeatedly made waves with some of its Un-carrier initiatives, one of which was the ability to test drive the network for seven days, which the company called Uncarrier 5.0. Today, T-Mobile is taking that offer further by letting users try the network for a full month - 30 days - before deciding whether to switch.
Unlike the initial offer, you won't be getting a whole new phone to try out the network. Instead, T-Mobile will give you a hotspot, which you can connect your current phone to and use as you wish. Of course, this doesn't exactly let you make calls or send SMS over the network, but you get to try the company's 600MHz signal for your data needs, which is the most common use of wireless networks these days. The test drive lasts up to 30 days or until you use 30GB of data, whichever comes first. T-Mobile's outspoken CEO John Legere said:
"Our network is open for anyone to try because we have nothing to hide — can your carrier say that? At T-Mobile, the strength of our network speaks for itself … we’re so confident in it, we’re giving people a free 30-day test drive."
T-Mobile is also highlighting the improvements it's made to its network over the past three years, saying "if you haven't tried T-Mobile lately, you haven't tried T-Mobile". The company has added over one million square miles of LTE coverage in that time, added more than 25,000 cell towers and sites, hired 3,000 full-time engineers onto its team, and despite data traffic tripling over the last three years, downloads have gotten 60% faster on the Uncarrier's network. T-Mobile says it now covers 326 million people with LTE service, which is 99% of Americans.
Part of that is thanks to its 600MHz spectrum waves, which it won in an auction back in 2017. The company is promoting the low-frequency band with a new campaign to let users know about its benefits.
