Notch: "I'm not sure how I feel about it."

By Tom Phillips Published Monday, 7 April 2014

Last night's North American episode of The Simpsons featured a new opening credits sequence inspired by Minecraft.

The Simpsons family appear as Minecraft-style characters, while Moe the bartender pops up as a Creeper.

Word of the parody quickly reached Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson, who appeared to react with surprise:

"The Simpsons did a Minecraft couch gag. I'm not sure how I feel about it," Persson wrote on Twitter.

"I STILL feel a bit like it's just this small game I made at home. It's so weird to have all these things happen."

Sales of Minecraft's mega-hit Xbox 360 Edition topped 12m copies last week, making the game's combined sales tally across all platforms now around 40m.

Would whoever keeps killing my sheep please stop. If you need wool that's fine, use the shears that are in the chest next to the sheep, and help yourself to all the wool you want. Just stop killing the sheep. If you accidentally kill a sheep then please re-breed them.

Don't update your clients yet - 1.7.6 is not compatible with older MC server versions, and there is no Bukkit build for 1.7.6 yet.

i am still surprised that being that the bukkit team works for Mojang now that they do not work on Bukkit on the side while they are developing a new build so that they can have the updates out quicker.

If you haven't been able to play Titanfall yet, a Mineraft mod has you covered. Ironfall is a Titanfall inspired mod that has released as a playable pre-alpha game hosted by The Chunk.

Ironfall features 8v8 combat, double jumping, and the ability to call down a Golem (each team can have up to four at a time) and pilot it much like the Titans in Titanfall. Currently, the only playable mode is Attrition. If you?d like to see how Ironfall handles, check out the video below of YouTuber BrenyBeast playing it.

Different Golem types, game modes, and wall running are coming soon, according to the blog post on Imgur. Ironfall can be played by connecting to The Chunk?s Minecraft servers at hub.TheChunk.net.

The Chunk hosts several other Minecraft mods, including BlockWars, MinerWare, Thimble, Ender, and more.

Just bought the game, so wouldnt mind being added to the white list :)

Probably won't login to it for a while yet while I figure out the game a abit but will def jump in at some point.

I can whitelist you when I get home in appr 3 h from now. Just give me your user name.

Note: The server is currently still on 1.7.5 - make sure to create a profile using that version. There are 1.7,8 builds for the Craftbukkit server mod we use, however I hesitate to install them yet - I'd rather wait for a beta or stable version.

No rush, I'm still at work anyway Username is Skiver77

I'll need to look at the profile stuff, I'm assuming I would be running the latest since I just installed it.

yeah it'll be set to latest version by default but just choose edit profile from the launcher and there'll be an option to choose a specified version

Got it, cheers!

Just downloading the Skydrive files now too, I assume they go somewhere in here %\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\.... Saves maybe? I assumed it would maybe be a little more obvious once it was downloaded and I could see the contents properly.

Might be worth adding the profile and download stuff to the OP for n00bs like me :)

the "World" Files that is in the original post right at the end, as there was no info on exactly what they were but assumed it was something along the lines of needing them for connection to the server? Like in other games where you need to download additional map files etc?

No, you don't need to download anything at your end. just put the server details in and connect. minecraft will do everything for you.

Ok cool, will hopefully get on it soon.

Can I ask what the files are? I've downloaded them anyway.

A few times now, Minecraft has had to change the world save files so much, that it's been easier for everyone to have people start fresh.

The world files on the skydrive, I think, are there as a backups for anyone wanting to go back and look at the world people created then.

Of course you'll have to downgrade your Minecraft client to be able to load them.

You can safely ignore them unless you want to see what people have created in the past.

    • I like the show more options. The only problem with it is that it's not always in a consistent spot in the menu. If the copy/paste/cut, happens to show on top, then more option is the last in the menu. But if copy/paste/cut happens to show on the bottom, then more options is before the copy/paste/cut. But I do like the more options because it hides the stuff that I rarely use. But I would like to choose what it is or isn't hiding. That would make it better.
    • I wonder if "put it back the way it was for decades" ever crossed their minds? 🤣
    • Rescind the stupid "Show more options" in context menus and just give us the full menu instead of adding more steps to get to what we want. The "simpler by default" makes me think they'll go in the opposite direction. Every context menu should have a configure button so you can pick and choose what options should be shown, I know you can do that with some registry fu but that shouldn't be required.
    • This is why competition must exist. Finally, pressure is mounting on Microsoft to move in the right direction.
    • Microsoft is making Windows 11's context menus faster, simpler, and configurable by Taras Buria Five years ago, Windows 11 introduced redesigned context menus, offering users a simpler, more modern design. However, customers quickly discovered that the new menus leave a lot to be desired. Many are unhappy with performance (they are really slow), while others dislike the double-layed design, where many options are hidden behind the "Show more options" button. In addition, over the years, menus became cluttered and overloaded. While Microsoft has already fixed plenty of pain points across Windows 11, context menus remain mostly unchanged. Fortunately, Microsoft is finally listening. Marcus Ash, Design and Research Lead for Windows at Microsoft, responded to a tweet on X, confirming that the company is working on fixing Windows 11's context menus. Reworked context menus are supposed to be faster, simpler by default, and "configurable to what you use most." What the latter means is unknown, just like whether Microsoft plans to keep the classic menu alongside the modern one, but according to Marcus, the wait should finally be over soon, as he promised to "share our approach soon." Improved context menus will most likely appear first in Windows 11 preview builds in the Experimental Channel. While we wait for Microsoft to release them, you can try fixing context menus on your PC with a simple tool called Windows 11 Context Menu Manager. It lets you disable entries you do not need, not only cleaning up context menus, but also making them significantly faster. Microsoft has already improved Windows 11's Start menu and taskbar, so hopefully it will address user criticism of the context menu as well. Stay tuned for new Windows 11 preview builds, which usually arrive every Friday.
