Do you think Hamilton would want to win like that?

no matter what drivers are saying. a win is a win and at the end of the day only the championship counts.

McLaren to confirm F1 driver lineup will remain unchanged gu.com/p/4xbk8/tw via @guardian

oh well ... :(

Little late but driver of the day was definitely Riccardo for me, the guy has some incredible talent. That dab on the breaks and switch to the inside on Vettel was a thing of beauty!

I'm not one to subscribe to the he did it on purpose but there was a distinct lack of tire smoke from Rosberg, he locked up for sure but there were far worse lockups (including one from Hamilton) at that corner and they all made it. Well apart from Kvyat showing off his rally skills  :woot:

Brilliant race though, one of the most exciting seasons for as far many years.

^^ Then that means Button's got another season, so I'm happy. :)

I'm glad also. Both drivers have done a good job in what has been a terrible car.

I was surpised at rumours that driver changes were going to happen at Mclaren to begin with.

Montezemolo confirms Ferrari departure

Luca di Montezemolo has confirmed he is stepping down as chairman of Ferrari.

In a statement released on Wednesday he said: ?Ferrari will have an important role to play within the FCA Group in the upcoming flotation on Wall Street. This will open up a new and different phase which I feel should be spearheaded by the CEO of the group [sergio Marchionne].

?This is the end of an era and so I have decided to leave my position as chairman after almost 23 marvellous and unforgettable years in addition to those spent at Enzo Ferrari?s side in the 1970s.

?My thanks, first and foremost, to the exceptional Ferrari women and men from the factory, the offices, the race tracks and the markets across the world. They were the real architects of the company?s spectacular growth, its many unforgettable victories and its transformation into one of the world?s strongest brands.

?A warm farewell and my thanks also to all of our technical and commercial partners, our dealers across the globe and, most particularly, the clients and collectors whose passion I so wholeheartedly share.

?But my thoughts go also to our fans who have always supported us with great enthusiasm especially through the Scuderia?s most difficult moments.

?Ferrari is the most wonderful company in the world. It has been a great privilege and honour to have been its leader. I devoted all of my enthusiasm and commitment to it over the years.

Together with my family, it was, and continues to be, the most important thing in my life.

?I wish the shareholders, particularly Piero Ferrari who has always been by my side, and everyone in the company the many more years of success that Ferrari deserves.?

Montezemolo?s association with Ferrari began in the mid-seventies, when he masterminded the team?s return to championship success with Niki Lauda designer Mauro Forghieri.

He moved on to other projects in the eighties, and in 1990 was responsible for Italy?s organisation of the FIFA World Cup football tournament.

The following year he was recalled to Ferrari?s F1 team, who had gone eight years without winning a world championship. He hired Jean Todt from Peugeot?s successful endurance racing team to lead them, and the subsequent arrival of Michael Schumacher and Ross Brawn from Benetton laid the foundations for a period of unprecedented success in the early 2000s.

That success continued in the immediate post-Schumacher years: Ferrari won two more constructors? championships and Kimi Raikkonen clinched the drivers? title with them after taking Schumacher?s place in 2007.

But the rise of Red Bull in recent seasons has left Ferrari, and Raikkonen?s replacement Fernando Alonso, with no further championship success in the last six years. That point was made by Fiat Group CEO Sergio Marchionne in response to Montezemolo?s denials during the Italian Grand Prix weekend that his future at Ferrari was in doubt.

"But what was not widely known at the time was the impact Domenicali?s resignation was to have on the possible recruitment of two men who may have had the power to transform the team?s fortunes. Sources inside the team state that both Adrian Newey and Mercedes HPP [the F1 engine arm of Mercedes] boss Andy Cowell were in talks with Domenicali about moving to Ferrari but that when he resigned they each lost interest in any such move."

a classical ferrari own goal then as it looks like. monte fired domenicali, now he got fired too and ferraris leadership is even more weak than before.

F1 radio ban 101: What is and isn't allowed

The FIA's Charlie Whiting has sent the teams a further technical directive clarifying what can and cannot feature in pit to car radio conversations from the Singapore GP onwards.  The document confirms that a lot of technical information will also be banned from appearing on pit boards.  In some instances, regarding tire and brakes, the ban has been postponed until the Japanese GP.  In addition the FIA has specifically targeted ?any message that appears to be coded.?  The FIA has confirmed that the restrictions ?apply at all times the car is out of its garage during the Event,? which means all practice and qualifying sessions are included.

i really wonder about the impact of this. i heard ferrari especially is not happy at all because of their system they need to introduce the drivers 2 times per lap at least to switch some stuff on their dash, while mercedes has it easier.

hm what to make out of the latest rumor?

Did silly season just hit overdrive or is this the massive news we were waiting for? Alonso/Vettel seat swap being reported in Italy.

an alonso/vettel swap would be quite something. but i wonder who mclaren would get then? usually ron dennis always managed to hire the drivers he wanted.

wow. looks like alonso is heading out of ferrari :o

"I'm doing an spectacular year, I have 3 times the points my teammate have, maybe with 2012 my best year and in every race, every thursday I have to put out the spotlights coming from Italy"

"Is a little weird, but I have nothing to say. If I have to say something, I will do it in a couple of weeks and someone will not like what I have to say because someday I will be the one making the leaks as I want or interest me.

"This is no good for anyone. I made team and I worked very close with the team during this years, I make a lot of effort to have a good atmosphere and I go out to dinner with the guys, I play basketball with them and continuously try to be close with the team to create a group and then all this things that comes from Italy... Someday I will speak too.

Rumour of the week. Ferrari to release Fernando Alonso to McLaren if they can sign Sebastian Vettel.

as a mclaren fan i really hope they can grab either alonso or vettel, because the others will be non available.

The FIA has drastically reduced the scope of its ban on team radio messages just hours before it was due to come into force.

Formula One drivers will continue to receive information about how to adjust their car?s settings, which had formed a significant part of the FIA?s intended clamp down on radio communications.

However the FIA still intends to enforce a restriction on driving advice being given over the radio this weekend. The sport?s governing body has given further details about which messages will be outlawed as of today?s first practice session in Singapore.

The FIA has postponed a ban on messages relating to the adjustment of power unit settings, the car?s state of charge, clutch maps, brake-by-wire settings, differential settings, start modes, fuel saving and other technical parameters will remain legal. Such messages were frequently used by teams in previous races.

The forbidden messages include those relating to:
  • Driving lines on the circuit
  • Contact with kerbs
  • Car set up parameters for specific corners
  • Comparative or absolute sector time detail of another driver
  • Speeds in corners compared to another driver
  • Gear selection compared with another driver
  • Gear selection in general
  • Braking points
  • Rate of braking compared to another driver
  • Rate of braking or application of brakes in general
  • Car stability under braking
  • Throttle application compared to another driver
  • Throttle application in general
  • Use of DRS compared with another driver
  • Use of any overtake button
  • Driving technique in general
The FIA now intends to introduce a ban on messages relating relating to car performance from next season.

That's it FIA, Confuse the hell out of people!

For a start I don't think mid season changes to the rules should be allowed, especially one like this. Let alone to then completely backtrack on half of the stuff a bit later.

This topic is now closed to further replies.

    • Windows 95 offered the ability to add and edit the right click menus, on a per file type basis. This feature seems to be missing in the new file explorer. Are they bringing it back as a "new" feature?
    • It's nearly time to replace my aging Founders Edition 3080, it doesn't OC as nicely as it used to and it's running around 10c warmer than it did when I first bought it.  I don't have budget for much more than what I spent on the 3080 and locally, that means the best GPU I can manage is a 9070XT. On this basis I have a few questions: 1. At present I don't use ray tracing, if this was to change, would this GPU be an issue? 2. How does it compare on a performance basis? 3. Are the drivers worse or better than those for nVidia? 4. Linux support, is it there? 5. Anything else I should be aware of if I were to make this change? 6. Is it a good idea or shall I try and keep the 3080 a little longer.
    • What OS is that? It looks a bit like Mac OS but the command line suggests it isn't, either way I like it!
    • Outlook classic is inherently better than new outlook, for a number of reasons. That said, if the only reason people need office is to read email, they should just use thunderbird.
    • Windows 11 is a big thumbs down from me. I used for a period of a few days while it was in insider and windows 10 was the main OS, and realised it wasn't for me. I am still waiting for Windows to be tolerable again, a shame as at one point I was very pro Microsoft.
