Is times like these that I remember why Charlie Whiting has to be the fun police when it comes to wet races. Why he could leave nothing to chance. The very fact you couldn't even see the car from the TV shots meant he went in quite fast, and that is a bad sign. I don't like it at all.  

 

Wet racing is dangerous, but no matter how dangerous it is, is less dangerous than racing pre-90s. Is probably safer than IndyCar in the dry. Accidents occur, but the reality is, what probably caused Biachi's injuries is factors that is external to racing, namely a truck. The cranes however are dangerous, unless they are able to replicate the barriers on the truck, they can't have the race going, especially when we could easily tell it was the weather condition that caused the crash. They took forever to make sure the barriers in Monaco was secure a few years back, in dry condition no less, so why even risk a crane on track? If the truck wasn't there, Bianchi would be walking out like Sutil. Is difficult to blame anyone, it seemed like Bianchi crashed soon as they crane got there, so it must'd been quite soon after the accident, which probably gives Charlie virtually no time to access what had happen to Sutil in the first place.

 

If it meant they need multiple specialised crane that is designed to cause less harm as possible to a F1 car, to be brought to every track, so be it. Monetary costs be damned. 

 If the truck wasn't there, Bianchi would be walking out like Sutil.

Or he'd have hit the car and ended up with similar injuries. There are too many variables to make such a definitive statement like that.

You can't bring races to a stop every time there is an incident, nor can you have massive cranes at every potential accident site. Safety measures were in place with the yellow flags and the vehicle was being removed as quickly as possible. Could things have been done differently? Of course but that's easy to say with hindsight. In future they might add protection around recovery vehicles to reduce the impact of F1 vehicles but I'm not sure what else could have been done without compromising the race.

 

Whatever the outcome it's clear that safety procedures are going to be thoroughly reviewed and steps taken to improve safety. F1 is safer than it ever has been?and certainly safer than competing leagues like Le Mans and IndyCar?but that doesn't mean there isn't risk involved.

Terrible ending to what was an entertaining race. Just a tragic freak accident. F1 is so such a safe sport now. No one could have predicted something like that.

 

Those cars seem to handle the wet pretty well considering the speed they are doing. Don't race in the wet. Ridiculous.

First off let me send out heartfelt hope that Jules Bianchi makes a full and speedy recovery. No one likes to see incidents such as this!

 

Putting aside that incident i thought the race was actually pretty good with some excellent overtakes in tricky conditions. I watched it on the BBC and i`m not sure if i was hearing things or can anyone else confirm?

 

Whilst the race was still going on and they kept showing the graphic of Sutil`s car i`m sure i heard David Couthtard say somethng along the lines of "I`m not sure what`s going on, the BBC have lost the plot" before he came back on the mic officially to say something.

Did anyone else hear it? (there were a few other mumbled comments as well).

The footage itself is terrifying, I can't describe how I felt when I saw it but I hope for his family's sake as well as for all of us that he pulls through. Forza Jules.

 

Additionally, I wouldn't be surprised if Rossi is drafted in this weekend to race in his place, as he is currently Marussia's reserve.

Agreed. The FIA have some explaining to do. God knows, the amount of money they rake in year after year all to go and line Ecclestones pockets. This accident was entirely avoidable. 

Just seen the footage myself, absolutely horrifying. He's damn lucky not to have been killed instantly. The sickening thing is they had warning of this before because something very similar happened to Martin Brundle 20 years ago. It's unacceptable that it wasn't corrected before, they really need to re think their recovery procedures.

Lets hope teams were aware of this before hand otherwise there could be a fair amount of troubles for some of them as there were a lot of incidents right through the weekend.

Lotus F1 team close to finalising Mercedes engine switch for 2015

 

Lotus says only final paperwork issues with Renault are preventing it from confirming its switch to Mercedes-Benz Formula 1 engines for 2015.

 

AUTOSPORT revealed back in July that Lotus had agreed terms to switch power units next season after a difficult campaign with Renault.

 

But since then there has been no official word about the change - even though it is understood that technical preparations are already under way with the German car manufacturer.

 

Lotus's deputy technical director Federico Gastaldi insisted in Japan that the delay in announcing its engine plans is not a sign of trouble, and that things should be completed imminently.

 

"We are hoping to do that as soon as possible," he told AUTOSPORT.

 

"We are still working on it, but we haven't done it because it is not finished. We are working in that direction.

 

"It is paperwork with Renault more than anything. We need to respect the contract with them - and whenever they are ready we will be ready."

 

When asked if there were any doubts about the Mercedes deal, Gastaldi replied: "There is no doubt. It is just a reality: at the moment we are trying to find the way to put things together to make an announcement."

Bianchi suffered brain injury in crash

 

Jules Bianchi suffered a brain injury in his crash in the Japanese Grand Prix two days ago, his team has confirmed.

 

A statement issued by Bianchi?s family in conjunction with his Marussia team on Tuesday confirmed he suffered a ?diffuse axonal injury? after his collision with a track recovery vehicle at Suzuka on Sunday. He remains in intensive care in a critical but stable condition.

 

Professor Gerard Saillant, the president of the FIA medical commission, and Professor Alessandro Frati, a neurosurgeon from the University of Rome La Sapienza, have joined Bianchi?s family and team members at the Mie General Medical Center in Yokkaichi where he is being treated.

 

Marussia and the Bianchi family expressed their thanks for the many messages of support they have received since the crash.

The following statement is provided by the family of Jules Bianchi, in conjunction with the Mie General Medical Center, and is distributed on their behalf by the Marussia F1 Team.

 

?This is a very difficult time for our family, but the messages of support and affection for Jules from all over the world have been a source of great comfort to us. We would like to express our sincere appreciation.

 

Jules remains in the Intensive Care Unit of the Mie General Medical Center in Yokkaichi. He has suffered a diffuse axonal injury and is in a critical but stable condition. The medical professionals at the hospital are providing the very best treatment and care and we are grateful for everything they have done for Jules since his accident.

 

We are also grateful for the presence of Professor Gerard Saillant, President of the FIA Medical Commission, and Professor Alessandro Frati, Neurosurgeon of the University of Rome La Sapienza, who has travelled to Japan at the request of Scuderia Ferrari. They arrived at the hospital today and met with the medical personnel responsible for Jules? treatment, in order to be fully informed of his clinical status so that they are able to advise the family. Professors Saillant and Frati acknowledge the excellent care being provided by the Mie General Medical Center and would like to thank their Japanese colleagues.

 

The hospital will continue to monitor and treat Jules and further medical updates will be provided when appropriate.

    • The very fact that a TPM (v2.0 specifically which is part of the issue I suspect) is now a baseline for any supported Windows installation will naturally mean other vendors will start to leverage it as they know it'll be there. It's called progress, and it's always been the way. A TPM isn't a windows thing, it's just a module designed to securely store keys. Secure boot isn't a Windows thing (although MS are the TCA as I recall hence the upheaval this year as the 2011 certs expire), it's just a way to verify a bootloader is signed. Windows simply leverages them.
