Supergirl (TV Series)

So does that mean there's a potential for Lois or Lucy to show up? Maybe Lois is investigating the new girl hero who is so similar to the Metropolis Marvel?

Lucy Lane is already in, played by Jenna Dewan Tatum. Lois? No word in that. Yet.

I'm done with network television, too many shows being cancelled after just one or two seasons, networks don't even have the decency to give the shows an ending, showing a total  lack of respect for their viewers IMHO.

Wish her boobs were a bit more super...

I don't think so. It is actually better to concentrated on the character, not her body. Every bloody show has well endowed women, it gets tiring.

Monday's "Supergirl" premiere posted impressive adults 18-49 and total viewership numbers.

Fast National Ratings: CBS’ “Supergirl” got off to an impressive start.

Per Nielsen fast national data, Monday’s premiere posted a 3.1 adults 18-49 rating with 13.001 million viewers in the 8:30-9PM half hour and a 3.2 with 12.877 million viewers in the 9-9:30PM half hour.

The half-hours average out to a 3.2 with 12.939 million viewers. Thus far, the performance is the best for a 2015-16 broadcast network series premiere.

Based on the fast nationals, it also ranks as the night’s #2 broadcast network program.

I don't really see this series lasting more than 3 seasons. They are lucky if they make it to 3. First of all, and let me point out I am NOT being racist, Jimmy Olsen is not black. Second of all, Jimmy Olsen NEVER knew the true identity of Superman so this conflicts with the Superman movies big time. Also, Jimmy Olsen NEVER had a romantic relationship or feelings for Supergirl so I don't know but this story is all messed up.

One of the major issues I had is that they severely weakened her right out of the gate by showing that normal Government resources can bring her down and do what they want by using kryptonite darts.  Basically, she has the same powers as Superman but is easily taken down.

I also hate Flockhart as she is a soulless, vapid oxygen thief that should stay away from acting.

This was a government agency meant specifically to deal with aliens, which employs Kara's adopted sister, so they had foreknowledge of Kara's status, abilities and origin. And she has the same powers as the most high-profile, and therefore easily-studied alien on Earth. I have no problem with this group taking her out, as inexperienced as she is.

Flockhart seems perfectly cast for her character.

This show isn't tied into any of the existing movie franchises, so I have less issue with the portrayal of Jimmy. I'd have preferred a more traditional one, but heck, we've never even gotten a proper redhead for Olson, so NO Jimmy has ever been right!

And he has shown interest in Supergirl at various points in the comics.

Yes, he has, and they got right that he'd previously dated Lucy Lane.

One thing that's new is the splitting of Alura's personality into 2 characters; Alura and her sister General Astra (Laura Benanti.) In the comics Alura turns into a hard case involved with establishing New Krypton.

(originally Zor-El and Alura survived when Brainiac shrank the city of Kandor and removed it from Krypton before it exploded. Eventually, Superman rescues and expands Kandor near his Fortress, establishing New Krypton, but Zor-El,  Alura and anti-alien humans don't mix and it's moved into an orbit opposite Earth [Superman: New Krypton])

I don't have a problem with this kind of change the majority of the time, it's not like Jimmy is an iconic character when it comes to things like lets have a black James Bond or it's time to make Dr Who am woman it's a GTFO situation. I like this quote from BSG director Michael Rymer on making changes

I agree with it having limited life though, I think having her find a way to defeat and lock up a bad alien each week will become tiresome quickly, I think CBS will expect better ratings then it's capable of delivering as well

lol tv/film makers do love their diversity and gender quotas don't they? I remember when they turned Pete Ross black for Smallville. It's pretty silly when it's only done to push diversity. If they want more black/female characters, they already exist in the comic books universes. Failing that, create a new one. Why oh why do they always have to mess with existing lore.

Sometimes they make good choices. Laurence Fishburne for one as Perry White. Now he's a great actor. But doing it just for the sake of diversity is ridiculous. It's the social justice mentality through and through.

Except that in playing Cat Grant, who is in the comics, she's playing a soulless, vapid oxygen thief who eventually is a foil for Supergirl. Perfect casting - she simply plays herself.

And how pity her hubby, Harrison Ford. She must do something right

    • For a guy who claims to hate Farage and the ignorant, gullible, rightwing racist skinheads sponsored by Putin that his lies represent, you sure are quoting them time and time and time again, mate. I guess you're conveniently ignoring the fact that your country and commonwealth just happened to work much better when it was still part of the E.U.? Denial isn't just a river in Egypt.
    • Do you live in the U.K? Do any of the people here that are against the UK leaving the E.U, live in the U.K? If not then why are you bothered? If you do live here then it is a different thing . Brexit was a good idea, should have done it years before, it was done badly, but the idea was good. You are saying the same thing as remainers do, oh we did what Putin wanted, we listened to the lies and Farage. I hate Farage and never believed most of what he said, certainly did not believe the £350m a week for the NHS. But we did pay a lot of money to the E.U and yes some of it came back, but what is the point of paying it out for only some of it to come back? Get out of the E.U, no money to them and in theory we can use the money to do things in the country. I said in theory, but our governments are a total and complete waste of space. No matter what colour rosette they wear. You and others say it was a mistake and yet the two main parties in the U.K are not looking at rejoining the EU, I wonder why that is? I was not tricked by anyone. Makes no odds now, we are out and have been for 10 years, what we need is a decent government to run the country. All they do is shout at each other like a load of kids and seems to do nothing and make this country more into a police and nanny state. Getting more like China all the time.

    • Yeah... The root of my comment, ostensibly, is how to spin the story via the actual technical merits of the solution! * Decentralized (aka federated) solution with built-in encrypted ephemeral message transport, * Transport via Relays (intermediary servers) with no message archival, * Second configurable pathway are actual email servers (if DNS records are programmed accordingly) via IMAP protocols carriage, * "Chat-over-Email" is the design pattern adopted; it can either leverage full-blown Email Server (must use the INBOX folder) to exchange all received messages/edits/reactions (so be weary of notifications overloads) [best practice is creating a separate email acct used explicitly for federated chat purposes!] or leverage its built-in Relay Server mechanism which actually resides on-device (by default but can be configured otherwise), * By virtue of be a decentralized/federated model, all other intermediary servers who may pass-along messages (while the recipient's final relay/device is inaccessible) cannot snoop on the messages due to the encrypted nature of contents. The intermediaries may, however, analyze the metadata due to the simple fact that routing mechanisms require hints for relay destinations. Unfortunately, whomever is posting about DeltaChat across socials are misleading with "zero metadata" claims -- especially when the Relays (according to their own technical documents) mandate the addition of chat-version metadata and other decorations in order to actually transport any message. -- Based on this summary, I'd prefer if they'd better dual-path message transport (email server add-in, federated relay engine) rather than patch-on email protocols to existing federated social media frameworks. They're frankensteining something rather than extending widely-deployed technology stacks.
