Supergirl (TV Series)

Sometimes they make good choices. Laurence Fishburne for one as Perry White. Now he's a great actor. But doing it just for the sake of diversity is ridiculous. It's the social justice mentality through and through.

You make an all white / all hetero cast today you'll have 50 nut jobs protesting very loudly before the first episode has aired.

Ugh.. This show man...I just can't put my finger on it... Maybe I need a giant button titled "cringe" so when I press it I won't need to cringe as much while viewing this horrible gob***** of a cheesefest.

The CGI is poor, the acting is poor, the characters chosen for example, Jimmy is outright laughable, I'm not talking about his skin colour here.. jimmy is supposed to be dorky, fun type of guy.. And yet they give us a supermodel z grade actor who looks as stiff as an erected board.. Sure he is built well but When you think Jimmy Olsen and he's from an African American decent with a dorky fun shtick, I instantly thought of Donald Glover.

The airbrushed makeup on most of the actors is overthe****ingly done.

The action scenes are also bad and the super speed is over used.

There is nothing Super about this show.

I'm not even sure it will make it to season 2

The episode 2 trailer already feels methodical. I'll probably watch the next few episodes, but I'm not feeling optimistic.

Actually, let me tell you how this show is going to pan out: It will suck for the first season, the second season will have some high highs and more low lows, and a strong dose of mediocracy. The 3rd season will be when the show starts to find its stride, but by that point the ratings will have suffered too much and the show will get canceled. The 3rd season will end in a cliffhanger, and never concluded.

The alternative is that Supergirl has some hook not yet reveled in the pilot episode that makes me reconsider my opinion and the show lasts 7+ seasons. That'd be cool, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

I really had high hopes for this show since its by the same people that do the Flash and Arrow. I'm thinking CBS may have something to do with the way the story is told, because these guys do great with their shows on CW

Well here's the problem that I see:

The acting on the part of some of the show's actors is terrible. Some of them act like they don't want to be there. The show seems to be directed towards young teens and kids and that's a mistake. They need to balance it. Make it a bit more serious and dark like Agents of Shield is. The whole Jimmy Olsen I'm-in-love-with-supergirl BS has got to stop. The love triangle crap needs to go away. This ain't Days of Our Lives. People want to see action and Supergirl, not two idiots fighting over her love and acting stupid. I saw the second episode last night online and I was less than thrilled with it. The most interesting part of the episode was the government dude when his eyes turned red. Wasn't expecting that one. Other than that, the episode sucked.

My 2 cents: I waited until Flash was on Netflix to binge watch it. So, I watch Supergirl and Flash within 24 hours of each other. Supergirl began with a weak Krypton origin scene, The rest of the episode was just okay, not compelling enough to want to make me want to see more ASAP. It did have some humor and good effects. Flash, on the other hand, had an excellent background story in the pilot and was strong through the whole episode, with excellent effects and humor in the right places. I'll try Supergirl again when I can see it commercial free (I don't use a DVR, yet) as commercials ruin any action show simply by removing the story and putting you into five minutes of stupid distractions.

I do like the casting of a former Superman (Smallville) and the original Supergirl (1984 movie)as her parents in the new show. I also like that Barry Allen's dad was the original Flash (1990 TV series). Very cool to see this.

I really had high hopes for this show since its by the same people that do the Flash and Arrow. I'm thinking CBS may have something to do with the way the story is told, because these guys do great with their shows on CW

News flash: the percentage of drop from it's prmiere, considering its time change and loss of the BBT lead in, is considered below average. It's also tied for #1 scripted with Blindspot for the night.

We won't know for a few weeks.

I predict they will ax it sooner than later:

Now...Don't get me wrong...I would love for this show to be successful. I kinda like the chic. She's cute and she's not doing a bad job, but this show should be in Syndication not CBS. It has a better chance to make it on the Sci-Fi channel or USA Network than it does on CBS. If it gets cancelled (which looks inevitable the way the ratings are going), I hope Sci-Fi, CW or USA grabs it.

I saw the 3rd episode to Supergirl and I have to say that this episode was far better than the pilot episode that came out. The biggest problem I found with the pilot episode is it felt way to rushed. I feel that episode could of easily been a 2 part series, instead it was all crammed up into one episode. I felt that the third episode was a lot better, it didn't feel no where near as rushed as the pilot and the action sequences were simply fantastic considering this was a TV budget show. In addition the end of the third episode had me wanting more. Great overall episode and I hope to see it continue this trend later on. If anyone only seen the Pilot episode I strongly recommend watching the 2nd and 3rd episodes as its in my opinion much better than the Pilot.

The stupid love triangle drama between the stupid Jimmy Olsen and the other idiot is really getting on my nerves. It's really unnecessary. The guy playing Jimmy Olsen needs acting classes. The other guy is just plain boring and is not far from winning a lousy actor award either. They really need to make some changes to this show if they want it to succeed and they need to make them soon before its too late.

It's a shame that it's not doing so well because, for a TV show with a limited budget, the special effects are great. I really hope they find some way to make it work.

We'll see, but I don't even pay attention to the live showing ratings anymorec because of DVR's and streaming.

true but remember, CBS doesn't care about how many people watch the show on their website (streaming). All they care about is Live viewing. If not enough people are watching it when they air the episodes, they will tank it, no matter how many people watch it online.

the Supergirl Pilot cost CBS $14 million

Is that high these days? I remember the Star Trek Voyager pilot costing 6 million and that was 20 years ago. At the time I think Babylon 5 creator/EP said he could produce 1.5 seasons for the same amount.

On the subject of money they need to pump more into FX, when she flew out and around the buildings at the end of the episode it looked horribly unrealistic.

The visual effects are not bad for a TV show. Hell, they are way better than the 90s Superman with Dean Cane, but I think more than anything, they need to change the way the story line is going. The stupid love triangle needs to go. The guy playing Jimmy Olsen sucks. The other idiotic guy "in love" with her needs to get acting lessons and stop being so stupid. The show needs to be a bit more dark and serious like Agents of Shield, otherwise it will fail. The way it's going, I don't even think a Superman cameo by Henry Cavill will save it from cancellation. They need to act and they need to act quick before CBS pulls the plug.

I somewhat agree with you. While the 3rd episode did pick up the pace from the slow 2nd one, I have a feeling now that Kara is out to prove herself and stand alone, I reckon she may just do that. If the show makes it to a season ender, lets hope Henry Cavill (if he actually makes a appearance) would be great as a season ender where Supergirl has to save her cousin in some way. What she needs is a villian that is a friend of hers, then turns and comes back next season, like that guy who is in love with her. Think Ford in Agents of Shield.

Once a proper storyline or plot has been established I think Supergirl would be great, much like Arrow, Flash and even Gotham.

Not so as paradigms are changing and lines are blurring.  Their streaming service has ads as well, sometimes more, and they get paid for them. Ditto "regular" HULU unless you pay exra to remove them. As such, those live + numbers matter to the bottom line.

    • Do you live in the U.K? Do any of the people here that are against the UK leaving the E.U, live in the U.K? If not then why are you bothered? If you do live here then it is a different thing . Brexit was a good idea, should have done it years before, it was done badly, but the idea was good. You are saying the same thing as remainers do, oh we did what Putin wanted, we listened to the lies and Farage. I hate Farage and never believed most of what he said, certainly did not believe the £350m a week for the NHS. But we did pay a lot of money to the E.U and yes some of it came back, but what is the point of paying it out for only some of it to come back? Get out of the E.U, no money to them and in theory we can use the money to do things in the country. I said in theory, but our governments are a total and complete waste of space. No matter what colour rosette they wear. You and others say it was a mistake and yet the two main parties in the U.K are not looking at rejoining the EU, I wonder why that is? I was not tricked by anyone. Makes no odds now, we are out and have been for 10 years, what we need is a decent government to run the country. All they do is shout at each other like a load of kids and seems to do nothing and make this country more into a police and nanny state. Getting more like China all the time.

    • Yeah... The root of my comment, ostensibly, is how to spin the story via the actual technical merits of the solution! * Decentralized (aka federated) solution with built-in encrypted ephemeral message transport, * Transport via Relays (intermediary servers) with no message archival, * Second configurable pathway are actual email servers (if DNS records are programmed accordingly) via IMAP protocols carriage, * "Chat-over-Email" is the design pattern adopted; it can either leverage full-blown Email Server (must use the INBOX folder) to exchange all received messages/edits/reactions (so be weary of notifications overloads) [best practice is creating a separate email acct used explicitly for federated chat purposes!] or leverage its built-in Relay Server mechanism which actually resides on-device (by default but can be configured otherwise), * By virtue of be a decentralized/federated model, all other intermediary servers who may pass-along messages (while the recipient's final relay/device is inaccessible) cannot snoop on the messages due to the encrypted nature of contents. The intermediaries may, however, analyze the metadata due to the simple fact that routing mechanisms require hints for relay destinations. Unfortunately, whomever is posting about DeltaChat across socials are misleading with "zero metadata" claims -- especially when the Relays (according to their own technical documents) mandate the addition of chat-version metadata and other decorations in order to actually transport any message. -- Based on this summary, I'd prefer if they'd better dual-path message transport (email server add-in, federated relay engine) rather than patch-on email protocols to existing federated social media frameworks. They're frankensteining something rather than extending widely-deployed technology stacks.
    • Decentralized search result anonymization...
    • Russia invaded Crimea, so not sure what you are getting at. Are you saying that the E.U is like what the USSR was? What is wrong with wanting control over your own country? i bet Trump would not stand by and allow Canada to control the U.S.
